Nice, but not what I ordered.
Amazon asked me to write this review. Though I was very impressed with the on-line description of this item, I disappointed that what I got was not as described. But it was close and appears to properly serve it’s intended purpose. Specifically, the ad is for a “Comfort Seats C1B1E-17BR Designer Solid Wood Toilet Seat.” What I got was a “C2B1E17BR” with a label for “Jones-Stephens.” The hinge mechanism was a selling point for me and it is definitely not the one described. My item looks good, but from the Jones-Stephens web site, the seat is “Light oak laminated MDF construction.” I wanted “solid wood.” I bought a second seat just to cut it open to verify it’s construction, but changed my mind. The “substitute seat” does look good, I’m just concerned about longevity. So, on to my rating. I’ll give a “5” for ad copy, a “0” for not delivering the item ordered, a “4” for delivering a suitable substitute and a very generous overall rating of “4” because although it’s not what I ordered I think it will serve it’s purpose. (Four pics attached, one with the hinge I wanted and three of the item I received. Note: The pictures did not upload.)

Get a Handle on It.
I purchased this new toilet seat to go in our guest cabin bathroom. The quality is so nice I can't say it enough. There is no comparison to the local box chain stores. The last wooden toilet seat was completely ruined after about 2 years use. I don't anticipate this happening with this one due to the high gloss polyurethane finish on it. All the hardware is brass except for the washers and nuts which are plastic. But that is fine. It was a very easy install. Remember to hand tighten and not use a tool to avoid cracking the toilet bowl. Keep all harsh cleaning chemicals off of the polyurethane as not to damage it. The instructions said soap and water. There might also be something on the market to clean it that would be organic and still not hurt the finish but I am not sure yet. The only thing that I think might be an issue is that I purchased the elongated toilet seat and the handle is a decorative handle that I replaced sometime back. However, the new seat will not stay up if used by a male counterpart. it will just fall back down. So, I'm not quite sure how do deal with this issue yet. I may just install a new handle on it. I definitely would recommend this toilet seat if you want to add a bit of class. It is definitely worth the money. I plan on purchasing other toilet seats from this company. I have not seen better quality as of this time. It's hard to believe what a difference a new toilet seat and handle can really make. This seat has both potential and problems...needs better hardware and quality control.
This seat has potential, however, the hardware is not adequate to keep the seat in place and the manufacturer needs better quality control regarding the color. The seat I received was as pictured on Amazon, except that it had one dark oak board down the right side. It should not have passed quality control for the "light oak" color I ordered. The darker board detracts from the overall appearance, but I decided to keep the seat anyway. I read some negative reviews about the hardware before ordering, but thought perhaps some people didn't know how to properly install the seat, i.e., ensure the washers and bolts were inserted correctly, etc. That isn't the case. The seat is simple to install, but the plastic hardware just won't hold the seat in place. It slides and moves to the side of the bowl with each use. Now, even after repositioning, it won't sit straight on the bowl. Another concern for me is that because the seat has a laminate finish, it can't be disinfected. Instructions say the finish can be washed with soap and water, but disinfectant cleaners or wipes will ruin the finish. I'm unsure about the long-term stability of the laminate finish. We have had the seat for a very short time, but the lid is already making impressions in the finish where the bumpers sit on the seat when the lid is closed. To summarize, the seat has a lot of potential. It's a nice, solid wood seat, but the hardware is cheap plastic. The laminate finish looks nice, but may not hold up well. Quality control should have rejected a seat with a board the wrong color before it reached a customer.

Very good seat cover, worth the purchase
This cover is very sturdy and durable, easy to clean (just the fixing nuts are tricky). The only flaw is that the plated material begins to corrode too soon (around 3-4 months after use). I got the golden one and I regret it, perhaps the bare metal or silver ones will not notice the corrosion too soon.

Comfort Seat
This is a first rate toilet seat, At $45 it should be and it is. Very high gloss, made of thick oak. All of them are spliced together and depending on the grain color you may or may not be able to tell it, that's the way oak is. The hinge on mine is the brass , it's heavy duty and seems at this point ( after a few months ) that it won't tarnish and should hold up a very long time, In fact this seat is so good you should "will" it to the kids and grand kids like a favorite piece of furniture because this will be around a long time. After I change out my other toilet to an elongated one I will be buying another "Comfort Seat".Also as for the name .."Comfort Seat"...maybe a bad name for a hard wood toilet seat, that's not my view of comfort, if you want comfort get a thick foam squashy seat. This is just a very well made nice looking , sturdy seat.Worth the money.

some defects, not perfect
This seat is very nice, but I was disappointed to receive one with the hinges applied slightly askew and a small defect (bubble) in the finish on the back of the seat bottom. Also, it is not one solid piece of wood as previous reviewers stated; while it is not glued together from four separate pieces as my previous one was, you can clearly see where the wood was pieced together and bonded in one section before the seat was carved. I would have exchanged it for another one, but didn't have the time-- it was for an 86 year old lady whose existing seat had literally fallen apart. So it'll have to do.
