Great costume IF you are willing to do some work on it.
I bought this fire fighter costume in size Medium for my (average-sized) son's 5th birthday. Despite its shortcomings, my son loves this costume and there are several things I like about it too. The canvas-like fabric of the tan part of the suit seems quite durable. The pants are actually like overalls and have adjustable red suspenders on top. The coat fits him well and still leaves some room for him to grow. The costume is super cute -- cuter than it looks in the picture. So why only three stars? Well, first of all, the pants are about 4 inches too long. We tried rolling them up and my son was okay with that, except they kept unrolling while he played (after all, he loves to wear this thing all day long) and when rolled up the reflective ribbon across the bottom isn't visible. I finally got out my sewing machine (and I'm not a great sewer) and "hemmed" the pants above the ribbon line. In other words, I tucked up several inches of the material on the inside of the pants above the ribbon and sewed a line across it to hold it in place. Yes, there is a big bunch of material on the inside of the pants now, but this doesn't seem to faze my son in the least. But even worse than the extremely long pants is the fraying ribbon. The ribbon all over the entire costume is not finished along the edges and the threads fall off as my son plays. The ribbon across the bottom started looking pretty bad after just a week. So I asked around and my mother-in-law suggested that I try usingDritz 674 Fray Check Liquid Seam Sealant, 0.75-Ounce . I got some and went along all of the edges of the ribbon on the entire costume. One bottle was more than enough. That seems to have done the trick. The ribbon is not fraying any longer. I even washed the costume by hand and the ribbon stayed intact. I only wish I had known about Fray Check sooner. Finally, as other reviewers have pointed out, the cheap foam hat is of much lower quality than the costume. It doesn't help any when the shipper bunches it up and stuffs the hat into a mailing envelope along with the costume. Despite the rough handling during shipping, it popped back into shape and my son doesn't seem to notice that it's cheap. He loves it. If you really hate it, you can always get another hat. So bottom line: Get this costume if you don't mind doing some sewing and buying a bottle of Fray Check and spending some time shoring it up. The fact that it was only about 25 dollars with shipping at the time made it seem like more of a bargain, even if it did require some work. And with the loose-fitting jacket (but not too loose) and the pants with room to grow, I feel like we'll get a lot of mileage out of this costume.

Description inaccurate
I ordered the small (4-6) size for my son after reading that the toddler size is for children less than 35" tall. My son is 36" tall, so I knew that the small size would be a little big. However, I was unprepared for the largeness of it on my son. It swallowed him whole. I will be pinning at least 4 inches of material on it for Halloween night, and he will get several years out of the costume. But I think the toddler size might have been the better size to order. The description says it comes with an adjustable plastic hat. It does not. It comes with a foam hat. Not a big deal since I read reviews and ordered a plastic hat separately. The material is hand wash only with no ironing, no drying, and no dry cleaning. So I'm hoping that hanging it up might get some of the heavy creases out before Halloween, but I'm not hopeful. Overall, the costume is very nice, and I like the way it looks. I just wish it was made out of material that can be ironed. Handwashing doesn't really bother me. And I wish they would update the description to say that it comes with a foam hat - not a plastic one. UPDATE: I liked this costume so much that I ordered a toddler size for my 2nd son who is 18 months old. The costume was very similar to the small (4-6) I bought for my older son. However, one thing I didn't like about the toddler size is that the jacket cuts in really tight around the midsection. It is also fairly long, and the overalls are overly long. But I was able to tack them up which wasn't a problem. The hat is still a foam one, and I ordered a plastic one to go with the costume instead. Overall I like the costume, and I rate the toddler size the same as the small size.

4 Years and still wearing this costume...
We got this for our son when he was 5. He is now 9 and still this costume is in fair condition. He has worn it for 4 years for Halloween and played outside in it. It is still in not to bad a shape for what it has gone through. I am shocked that he is still able to wear this. I thought he would out grow it fast. The pants and suspenders are nice. We can adjust them each year and they still fit him. The jacket was a bit large, but he is growing into it nicely now. We got his hat and tools at Wal*Mart in the boys costume section years ago. Not sure if they still have them now. They work well with this costume. The only thing I can complain about is the yellow strips. They frayed really bad and started to come apart. That is the only complaint I have. I am looking into sewing new ones on this year with a better fabric. So if you do get this, look into using some fray glue or sew new ones on. The sewing is all still intact. I can not see one hole anywhere or any sewing that has come apart. The zipper still works and so do the front clips. It said to hand wash. This is the first year I washed it in my front loader on delicate. It is still all together (even the yellow strips but they frayed more, which I knew was going to happen). All stains have come out. I can not complain much about a costume that has lasted for 4 years. Especially after the first one that was made of cheap vinyl and lasted the one night. I did give this 5 stars due to how long it lasted and the fact that the yellow strips are all still on. We will see... maybe next year it will still fit and he will still want to be a fireman.

Perfect!
I was a bit skeptical about this costume due to the mixed reviews but my son and I absolutely loved it. It was durable and super cute. He wants to wear the jacket everyday. I definitely recommend this costume!

Great costume!
I am a volunteer firefighter and wanted to get my son a Halloween costume that looked realistic. That was 10 years ago for my now 12-year-old. This past year, my 4-year-old wore it for Halloween. It’s made it through Halloween and play for 3 kids and is just starting to unravel. It should last for my fourth and final to fit into it in a few years. I love how it has the pants with suspenders and the separate jacket. It seemed to run maybe a touch big.

Great costume..quality average!
Kiddo loved it, not the best quality hivwn that the straps started to fray (loose thread) at the end almost immediately, after trying it. Managed to fix it using transparent glue. Still ok for the price paid.

On peut voir à travers le tissus mais il semble résistant quand même.
Les bandes réfléchissantes sont belles et les attaches de fermeture (clip) sont aussi faciles à manipuler que des boutons à pression.
