Makes the best rice I've ever had.
The rice cooker I've been using started to burn the bottom of the rice, and I realized that I've had it for almost 25 years! So I thought I'd treat myself to a super nice cooker this time, and I found this on sale. Maybe it will last another 25 years! The Cuckoo is a bit cuckoo to setup. It's very complicated and weird, but worth the effort. I love the quality of rice it makes, whether it's long grain Thai basmati, or short grain Japanese style, it comes out delicious. I am using a water ratio of about 1.9x water to rice for most rice. Short grain brown rice also came out good with a bit more water added. I also tried the germinated brown rice recipe. I gotta say though, the texture and taste of that was not much different than regular brown rice cooking, so not worth the extra effort for me. I like short grain 'kokari' style japanese rice the best, but with this cooker I've liked all types I have tried. I've seen reviews saying that Cuckoo doesn't do as well with long grain rice, but I LOVE the long grain rice I've made in it even more than short grain. Even tho I'm not a big fan of brown rice, it's nearly as good as white in the Cuckoo so I will be eating more of it. I have even tried a wild rice blend, and that was excellent. I do tend to like stickier rice, probably more towards the Korean than Japanese style and the Cuckoo delivers. One of the reasons I got this cooker is the size, as a single person, I don't need a lot of rice. And I typically use a 1/4 cup of dried rice to make a single portion. This takes about 13 minutes on turbo mode or about 22 minutes on regular. So super quick and easy. I have also found that larger portions take only a bit more time. My experience with previous cookers is that doubling the size of the portion will usually double the time. Not with the Cuckoo, it only adds 10-25% of the time. I was really skeptical of the auto-clean feature, but it actually works extremely well. I clean out the bowl, wipe down the upper lid and run it, and the whole unit comes out very clean. I have made some recipes with a bit more ingredients and found that the insides do 'gum up' a bit more, and removing the top lid and cleaning it is essential. Running the auto-clean twice made it sparkling after that. My one irritation is that its hard to remove the top inner lid. It's really clamped down and I have to work hard to get it off. Could be a challenge for someone with arthritis or mobility issues. Sometimes I've had to use a pair of pliers. The voice guide is essential because it's so complicated. And I find the voice funny to hear. It talks so much and unnecessarily. It will announce it's going into sleep mode, for instance. Why would I need to know that? My only negatives for this cooker is the price, the size which is large for how small the portion of rice it makes, the weight, it's something like 12 lbs, so hard to move around. And the difficulty in removing the inner lid, that is irritating.

Family reluctant to replace 11 year old rice cooker; but after 1st taste, no one wants to go back
We had owned a trusty zojirushi rice cooker for over 10 years. The pot was starting to look worse for wear and the cost to replace was high . . although not as high as the Cuckoo pricy rice cooker. But with Amazon's return policy, we took the leap. Fantastic white rice and now brown rice that everyone in the family will eat.

4 stars with reservations
The turbo mixed rice setting is perfect for Jasmine rice and other long grain rices. The glutinous rice regular setting works well for sushi rice, and the glutinous rice turbo setting works well for sona masoori and ponni rice. I have yet to try actual glutinous rice, but will update once I do. Basmati rice does well in the mixed rice turbo setting. Parboiled long grain rice works well in the glutinous rice regular setting. Parboiled basmati does well with the mixed rice turbo setting. The brown rice setting has worked well for brown basmati, brown long grain, brown Jasmine, and brown sushi rice. I do err on the side of adding slightly more water than the cooker calls for. If you forget to soak your brown rice overnight (it produces a softer brown rice which is less challenging to chew), you can use the GABA rice setting, and you'll get the same effect. It takes a couple hours, but it makes a brown rice that doesn't taste like health food. To access the turbo setting when you're making something, hit the start button twice. While the rice is cooking, there will be multiple times that the cooker will tell you it's doing something. Before it starts venting out the steam (it is a pressure cooker after all), it gives you a heads-up. If you don't like to use the microwave to reheat something, the multi cook function hit for 10 minutes will get your wet food (soup, stew, beans, etc) from fridge cold to nice and hot. What the superpower that this rice cooker has over larger models is sheer /speed/. I can wash off some rice, hit the glutinous rice turbo setting, and it'll be done /from start to finish/ in 12 - 16 minutes, depending on how much rice is in there. This isn't 12 minutes from when it hits pressure. This isn't 12 minutes from after it comes to a boil. This is where I hit start, and the cooker starts timing 12 minutes. When that timer has run out, the rice is ready, period. If you're impatient like me, add about 1/3 cup extra water to the mix, and you won't have to let the rice sit there and redistribute for 10 minutes after the cooking is done. The rice will be on the slightly softer side, but that's not entirely a bad thing, in my opinion. I don't care for rice that's too hard. The self cleaning function is where this guy really shines. There's been times where I'll cook something, and the top plate gets this starchy film all over it, and I don't want to spend all day cleaning it. The auto clean loosens up any stuck on food bits from the inner pot, and the lid, so that you can easily wipe it off. This isn't a small appliance though. Even though it's a 3 cup, the body is still fairly bulky. As counter top footprint goes, it's on par with my air fryer. That said, because I use it so much, it's worth it for me. I like the smaller size, because it keeps me from making too much of something, and having leftovers forever. I don't mind a leftover that I can clear off in one or two meals, but much more than that, and I'll get bored. I live alone, and it's easy to make too much of something, and then never want to eat it again, because you've had it twice a day five days in a row.

Perfect size for a small family
After using this pressure cooker over a month, I noticed one function which is speed cooking is not working. I love the size and color however I haven't noticed a significant difference for taste of rice using this cooker. I think what makes difference in taste is the quality of rice you are using as it made delicious rice when I used new crop.

Pot of rice in 25 mins!
I love how small this is for my tiny apartment. I originally got it for the size, but the quality is amazing. Plus, I don’t have to wait long for some fresh home cooked rice!

Fast and reliant
This is a great rice cooker for everybody that makes rice 3-4 a week. For daily use I would suggest a bigger one. The rice is constantly good and keeps warm. Update: and it makes great 죽 but you have to read the Korean manual, not the English.

It’s the best rice cooker i have ever had
Even the low quality rice is taste amazing when it’s done by the cuckoo rice cooker. I just use the white rice function, not try brown rice and other functions yet, will try later soon. Before I used to own Japanese products , compared with this cuckoo, the later one is the best.

Nice Cuckoo but expensive and slower.
Why the 3 stars? First, it's a very nice, very well build rice cooker. It is the Cadillac or Lexus of rice cooker. No complaints here. Build quality and esthetics are top notch. So why the 3 stars? It is much slower than my previous pressure cooker. In 8 minutes, your standard white rice is ready. It takes twice as long with this Cuckoo. My older (albeit broken, inferior and 4 times cheaper) rice cooker is sorely missed.
