Excellent, long lasting, and really better than the stiff cardboard disc type wheels

I have used thousands of 7" grinding and sanding discs of one kind or another on stainless steel, bronze, steel, and aluminum. First of all, 3M makes the best abrasives. The Cubitron simply lasts longer. Seems they used to call it Regalite, not sure if there's a difference between Regalite and Cubitron, but they are both very good. Try a cheapo from Harbor Freight, or some competing high end discs from Norton, the 3M Cubitron will last anywhere from 2x to 10x as long. Now 3M makes other cheaper conventional abrasives like normal Type C aluminum oxide cardboard discs and I have to use those once in a while when I run out of the Cubitron. I will change those every 5 minutes on stainless steel and they will be DEAD, while the Cubitron will go 20-30 minutes. It's not even close. Now the flap wheel type vs the simple cardboard discs, for a long time I have used Cubitron Type C cardboard discs. They are cheaper than the flap wheels but they have some problems. One, they are not very flat. They seem to cut them out of a curved roll of material and the roll is pretty permanent. I actually have to weight them or stick them in a press for a week to try and flatten them out before using. Then you put them on the grinder with a stiff rubber backing wheel, but they still have a wobble to the edge. Not too much problem if you are grinding flat surfaces or sanding in a direction off the work edge. But when you have to get in at an angle sliding onto an sharp edge, the fluttering disc rim is liable to catch on the metal and rip and tear. Ugh. These flap wheel things, first of all, ship flat. No roll or buckle. Also because the flap edges trail behind the disc rotation direction, it's basically impossible to catch the edge of the metal. You just don't have to worry about your angle of attack much beyond common sense. I do wish they would make these in a 120 grit and 150g and 180g. I only see up to 80g. Maybe could really cut down on the amount of further finishing I have to do with finer grit like 5" and 6" 150g and 220g foam backed cloth discs.
