An Economical Replacement Cover (With Control Lever) for Bathtub Overflow Drain
This review relates to: (1) the Pfister bathtub drain plug, with accompanying connecting rods (these appear to be of similar dimensions to the old ones), and (2) the DANCO bathtub drain overflow cover plate with built-in trip lever. The overflow plate and associated spring that retains the trip lever in up or down position are of non-ferrous material, which may resist corrosion (see picture). If the existing parts are intact, they can be removed by simply unscrewing the two crews that attach the cover plate to the tub, and pulling the cover, connecting rods and drain plug out of the tub. If there is any damage, it is likely to be breakage or disintegration of the existing connecting rods--especially at joints, where friction can cause wear. If the connecting rods are worn out or broken, it may be necessary to extract the plug with an old coat hanger wire with the end bent to form a large hook, or some similar contrivance. Be sure to save all the old parts. You may need to use some of them in the reassembly. Several reviewers have commented on diameter disparities between old and replacement plugs (and disparities in height and weight may also be an issue)--this applies to other brands as well as Pfister. Our old Briggs plug (probably 67 years old, like the house) was pretty raunchy, but after cleaning with sandpaper, emery cloth and polish, it looks almost as good as new. The Pfister plug was approximately 1 mm smaller in diameter than old one. It probably would have leaked. So I chose to re-use the Briggs plug. In the reassembly, the biggest challenge is inserting the cotter pin that attaches the connecting rod yoke to the trip lever. This is very difficult (but possible!). The Pfister hardware includes a cotter pin, but it is extremely difficult to get this (already bent out of shape) cotter pin through the openings in the yoke and the trip lever. The DANCO cover plate comes with a new (unbent) cotter pin, which can simplify the attachment of these parts. Note that, once the yoke has been attached to the trip lever, the threaded upper rod should be screwed into (or out of) the yoke in order to obtain the correct distance between the trip lever and the plug. After this is done, the nut on the threaded rod should be tightened against the yoke so as to hold the loop on the upper connecting rod in a horizontal position. This will permit the lower connecting rod to pivot freely where it meets the upper rod; and the lower rod’s connection to the plug should also be at a right angle, for the same reason. Once all the connecting rod connections have been made, it should be easy to slide the plug back down into its operating position. DANCO provides two screws with the cover plate, but these were too long for our tub. So it was necessary to use the old screws, although it would be possible to cut the screws to shorter lengths with a hacksaw.

Pretty good, but not perfect
Works well. Smaller than the original. Not as well built. Better than nothing.

Trip lever will not stay in the drain (down) position
This product was fine as far as it goes, with one problem: the trip lever would not stay in the drain (down) position. The weight of the plug at the end of the arm was pulling the trip lever up against the tension of the spring. In other words, the spring was too weak. I fixed the problem by disassembling spring assembly and Inserting two thick washers next to knuckle to reduce space for spring and thus increase spring tension. See the picture. Needless to say, I shouldn't have to do this.

Replaced original overflow in my Jacuzzi that I broke.
I broke the original overflow valve in my Jacuzzi. The plunger was getting stuck, my wife was jiggling the lever to unstick it, causing the wire to go out of alignment. So when jiggling it no longer work she told me. When I tried to move the lever and it wouldn't budge, rather than stopping and taking apart the faceplate, I tried to force it by jiggling as well. Apparently, I jiggle much harder than my wife. I wound up snapping the lever clean off.I Tried to find a square plate like the original, but no luck, so decided to give this a try. So happy that it fits, covers the original hole entirely and screw placement s are an exact match. Used original screws as those included are a bit short.I We've been using it for a month and it does not stick and the chrome hasn't faded. Easily wiped clean. My wife gets to enjoy her baths and remains relatively calm, meaning I have less stress, everyone wins

Not enough spring force
First time replacing one so maybe our tub is weird, but this couldn't even slightly keep the drain open. The toggle position is extremely soft so almost any weight at all made it switch. There are a lot of issues with the design so I ended up grinding a new flat on the cam ribs at the right angle with much smaller (almost no) radius. I also had to clearance the shaft (chucked the handle in a drill and used a flap disk die grinder) because the square feature prevents the lower shim from contacting the cam ribs. That made the lower shim not center properly because it's poorly designed so I had to internally notch a brass washer from the old trip lever, so I could get it past the key stakes so I could get it underneath the lower shim. The extra thickness wasn't enough to get high enough spring force so I added a washer under the upper shim to pre-load the spring even more. To sum up, it's cheap and I made it work. But I definitely wouldn't call this a nice product.

I am very satisfied with this product.
I am very satisfied with this product. The quality seems to be about the same as the original worn out 15 year old Delta lever assembly that I was replacing, for about 1/8 of the price. Wow! Some of the reviews said that the two provided screws did not fit. Since this assembly seems to be a universal fit I am not surprised. Just reinstall the old screws if this is the case. The screws did in fact fit my Delta drain but they required a #3 phillips screwdriver, one size larger than the common #2. Everything went together just ducky and it works and looks great! While I had everything apart I adjusted the height of the stopper on the threaded downrod for maximum outflow when the drain is open. This might require patience and a little trial and error but it is well worth it. Finally, I sprayed everything with Liquid Wrench silicone spray before final assembly. Before you order measure the diameter of the chrome plate and the distance between the screws. Then, compare those dimensions to the product description. If you have a match you are good to go.

Fully functional
Fits standard tub overflow with pull-up drain plug, as advertised. If you're worried about losing the cotter pin during installation, tie a piece of string around it.
