A simple thing
These were much better than the other kind that have the little knob that you slide over. This seems like it'll never break. Works well. Easy to install. The nails were tiny, but held the device to the window.

Nails instead of screws for installation.
I don’t like hammering a window so close to glass. Others I’ve used includes screws for installation

May work well if your window isn't too deep
I installed this on my Marvin wooden double hung window, but it doesn't seem to be thick enough to actually block me from opening my window. Perhaps it was supposed to be installed in a different location?

Decent security; a lot depends on your windows
I've lived with this style of window lock for over 25 years, and just recently installed a couple more. These are made of folded steel and seem to be solid and sturdy. Obviously they are not foolproof since wooden double-hung windows vary widely, especially after decades of use have worn and loosened them. In fact, the more looseness there is a window, the less likely these are to be effective. That is, the looser the window, the greater the chance that the window will be able to slide past the lock. Finally, after decades of use the lower window can develop small grooves where it contacts the lock, which will make the lock less effective. Nonetheless, I place a reasonable amount of trust these locks.

The package includes a pair
Thrilled with these. I live in a 100+ year old house with rickety windows (and those clothesline cords). The package includes a pair so I bought twice what I needed, but that's fine as I will just install in more windows. Using a pair in each window makes it more secure as it's possible to wiggle the window around a single one. Now I can enjoy sleeping in the cool autumn air without worrying about safety.

Window security
When installed they were low profile and prevented windows from opening beyond set point. Easy to flip out of the way for full opening of windows. Will be ordering more.

Incredibly useful at a great price.
These work great, I am renting an old apartment with windows that don't have all working locking latches (or they are missing all together) - this gives me at least one mechanism that prevents the windows just to be opened from outside by sliding them up. Also, even if you already have a locking latch, if you install this a bit higher up on the window frame, you can leave your window open a bit, allowing a gap for fresh air while also preventing the window from being opened more. Incredibly useful at a great price.

Inexpensive security
For old-style wooden sash double-hung windows, this is a very helpful security device. When it's closed (as shown in the photo), the lower sash can't be raised past the level of the wedge. If you want to open the window fully, just swing the wedge part of the device open. This little piece of hardware seems pretty well made and provides a good first layer of security, especially if you want to leave the window part-way open for fresh air.
