Weird mix of sturdy and flimsy
I bought this kit last year for my son who loves building kits (K'nex, LEGO, Snap Circuits, etc.). It looked so cool, but we were not especially impressed. The machines built by this kit are surprisingly large, which was great. For the most part, the pieces were easy to snap together. My 9-year-old was easily able to follow the instructions and build independently. The structural pieces were nice and sturdy (similar to the pieces in the Thames & Kosmos Catapults & Crossbows in size and feel), but the bars doing the mechanical work were really flimsy. These are slender pieces of black plastic used to transfer force from the handle to the gears that move the machine. On the relatively compact lift design, getting this skinny piece of plastic into place and making it turn were tricky enough, but the helicopter relied on several of these twiggy pieces connected by sliding the end of each piece into a connector. You had to get them in about equally in order for them to be held securely; if you got one in too far, it was really hard to tug it back out again (even for me). These flimsy pieces were what connected the crank at the back of the helicopter with the gear that turned the main blade. It was hard to get them turning, and they twisted under the strain of connecting the handle and the gear. Because of the flimsy nature of the construction, the mechanisms on both machines didn't always work: the teeth would jam, and you'd be afraid of snapping the black bar if you exerted too much pressure trying to wiggle them free. I was hoping these would be a step up from K'nex educational kits; the educational materials were great, but the mechanics were disappointing enough that my son built only these two models and never wanted to touch the set again. (This from a kid who has built and re-built all of his other building kits sets was a pretty big disappointment.)

My students love this kit.
I am very impressed with Engino kits. My students love working with these kits and I love the versatility of the different possible structures and the easy to follow iPad KidCad 3D step-by-step instructions. It always makes for easy class-prep and high impact lessons on the many different aspects of mechanical engineering components and design principles. Great for home schoolers, middle-school aged STEM classes, as well as engineering club activities. It also would be a great gift for an 8-13 year old who loves building and tinkering (similar to LEGOS, but with more specialized mechanical engineering inspired parts).

Versatile and fun learning!
I especially like the free iPad app "Engino KidCad" which has 3D rendered step-by-step instructions that you can rotate the view and zoom in etc. My 8th grade STEM students love building the different structures. There are several similar kits you can buy, but I especially like the ones with moving parts (like gears, cams and cranks) with exception to the pulley kit which requires cutting and attaching string components which do not have instructions in the KidCad app.

Engineer Sister loved it as a distraction / fidget toy
I got this for my sister (adult) to build as a distraction from doing coursework in her PhD or to calm a restless mind late in the evening. She has so far enjoyed assembling various designs (trebuchet, ladder, etc.) and placing them in odd spots around the house. Given the age target, It's relatively simple to build and the instructions are very clear. All in all, I think this is a well-designed toy for all ages.

Great STEM toy!
Love this set! Bought it for my 8yo son and he needs no help putting any of the builds together. A good challenge for kids that enjoy building things. Would definitely recommend.

Educational
Got for child who wants to be an engineer (today, anyway) and his school is now using STEMS so it was helpful and gave him a leg up.
