Excellent blinky lights
Excellent Blinky lights. I've been using these Planet bike lights on my bikes dating back close to two decades. They are not intended to be replacement for bright headlamps/taillights, but for use on fanny packs while walking, while cycling at dusk/daybreak or in daytime - these make your presence known especially in the blinking mode. The price is right too!

Great value for "be seen" lights, front light not usable for illumination
$15 or thereabouts for this pair of lights is a bargain, especially with all the mounting hardware that's included. The lights are perfect for getting yourself noticed from dusk through dark to dawn or on overcast/rainy days. It's important to know that, if you need to see where you're going or want to depend on it to be alerted to potholes and other road obstacles before you hit them on a fully dark road, forget it because the front light in this set doesn't produce enough lumens for that job. I didn't deduct any stars for that, though, because this is a "to be seen" light set, not a "to see" headlight. I installed the bracket for the white front light (it's not bright enough to call a headlight) on my handlebar stem. The vertical angle can be easily adjusted over a wide range with a firm and satisfying click for each available position. I clipped the red light right onto a loop on the back of my rack-top trunk bag rather than using any of the mounting hardware. I wasn't sure that the clip would hold securely, but the loop on the back of my trunk is quite thick so the light doesn't bounce around at all and I'm confident it won't be going anywhere even over rough terrain. Both lights are easy to click into place and remove; in fact, it's faster to pop these in and out than it is to set up/remove my Infini lights (which I like very much and are actually much brighter than these Planet Bike mini-blinkies): Oddly, the front light enters blink mode with the first press of the button and steady mode with the second press of the button while the rear light enters steady mode with the first press of the button and blink mode with the second press of the button (third press on either turns that light off). Maybe one of my pair has a manufacturing glitch; I have only the one pair so I can't say if it's supposed to be this way or not, but it is certainly odd that they don't operate identically. Update 2012-09-25: I purchased a second pair and they work the same, so I suppose that's the way they're supposed to work. Still seems odd that the sequence would be different for the front vs the back, though. I'll be using two Infini front lights as headlights to supplement the white Blinky when I need to illuminate my path. With the red Blinky clipped to the label of my trunk bag I don't have a place to put an Infini rear light anymore, but I don't really need supplementary light in the rear, anyway. And 80% of the time I won't need supplemental lighting in the front, either. To everyone I see biking after dark with no lights, do yourself a favor and spend the $15 on this pair of lights or something similar. It's a lot less expensive than new rims, let alone new knees or a trip to the emergency room. Even if you're on a car-free bike path after dark, get yourself some lights because all it will take is you and one other cyclist without lights on a collision course and =BANG= you're in for a bad night. Besides, riding without lights at night is illegal in New York City and pretty much everywhere else I've checked.

City Riding: See, and be seen!
ThisPlanet Bike Blinky Safety 1-LED Bicycle Light Set is just about perfect for anyone riding in the evening or at night in any large city environment. The lights are bright, they offer over 200 degrees of visibility in either blinking or steady mode, and will clip or mount to just about anything. Make sure, however, that you understand the function of these lights: they are not headlights for illuminating your view down a lonely dark country road where you can see what's ahead of you for half a mile. These lights are so that you can be seen; they are so that you can notify other cyclists, pedestrians or auto drivers of your presence, and they'll do it for a long distance. With these lights, you'll have no excuse to go unseen while riding. That's excellent, but all too often we find cyclists who either don't use common sense or are just rude enough to ignore local rules when it comes to bicycle lighting. I spend a lot of time in New York City, and there are some excellent bike lanes here. New York State Law requires that cyclists use white front lights and red tail lights when you ride at night. Yet it's a well published statistic that 45% of bicyclist fatalities in New York City happen in the dark. So with excellent bike lanes and such laws in force, how can such a thing happen? NYC cycling blogger and author Eben Weiss (a.k.a. BikeSnobNYC) said it quite well in his 2012 bookThe Enlightened Cyclist: Commuter Angst, Dangerous Drivers, and Other Obstacles on the Path to Two-Wheeled Trancendence , where on page 32 he made the following observation: "Sure, accidents do happen, but just how accidental is rear ending someone because you were on your cell phone or crashing your bike because you were riding the wrong way down a one way street at night without using lights?" It's difficult to keep from going into a rant about "salmoning," that dangerous practice where some riders mimic the salmon species, which are hardwired to swim against river currents. Similarly, some cyclists are inclined to ride the wrong way on one way streets, but when they do it without lights, it becomes doubly dangerous. OK, off of the rant and onto the lights. From personal experience, these have proven to be excellent lights for city riding, and the weatherproofing is good. Each one is as small as a walnut. They're relatively inexpensive, the output is surprisingly bright, and I've found that I can get between 70 and 100 hours (better in flashing mode) from each CR2032 battery, which can be found here or in any local drug store. These come with enough hardware to mount to most handlebars, seat posts, panniers or luggage racks. This set give you a strong white warning headlight and a bright red tail light which is perfect at night or when visibility is poor. As they say on those cycling signs in NYC: See, and be seen! 9/3/2012

Flashy little lights.!!
Good light set for safety and visibility. Attaches easy to bike bars. The quick release function is nice. Comes with batteries for each. Each light is quite bright, though I do have a heavier duty light for my own viewing during night rides, but these are good for others to see you. Would get again.

Tricky to install
The light are rather dim and really only good for making yourself easier to see. They were also a massive pain to install. I'll upgrade this rating to 4 stars though if they last long enough on their first battery.
