Easy cosmetic update for not a lot of $

Keep in mind this this is the trim only-the outer ring and the interior circle. But if you’re looking to update your recessed lighting this is an easy install for not a lot of money.

Awesome product

This is a great product. Keep in mind this is specially designed to be used with Halo RICAT series E26, 6” canned light fixtures. In summary, you need five items to make a complete set: (1) a Halo 6” canned light fixture, (2) the trim (this item is one of a series of many trims that will work); (3) an E26 light bulb; (4) a 3/8” clamp connector for the knockout (H series); and (5) a roll of electrical wire tape. If you use the Halo canned light fixture, you do not need to make any modifications, such as adding a pigtail as noted in a separate review. Again, this is designed to be used with Halo canned light fixtures, but it can work with others you might need to make mods. I manage real estate. I’ve installed over 30 of these Halo lights, not including other brands too. For remodel, this trim works with the H27RICAT (shallow), H7RICAT (full size), E27RICAT (shallow), E7RICAT (full size) Halo canned light fixtures. Halo also has new installation cans that will work with this. Personally, I prefer the H27RICAT with these because you usually don’t know before you order on amazon if there is a beam, obstruction, etc. 7” above the drill point, especially for the lower floor of a multi-story house, so you’re always safe with a shallow can. The E and H series are pretty similar, but the H series has better installation options/features whereas the E series is novice friendly. Keep in mind the light bulb and trim do stick out from the ceiling. If that is not for you, go with the Halo 301P series trim, that is fully recessed and cheaper too. For the review that mentioned having to cut out the back half of the trim because the light bulb didn’t move. . . OPPS, right idea though. When you install this trim, you need to remove the backplate and socket mount from the Halo recessed can, BEFORE you install the trim. If your’e just replacing an identical trim then that is not necessary (it is swap and go). To remove the backplate, there is a hand twist-off nut, 30 seconds tops, to do this. Do not cut the trim, that is not necessary. This trim acts as the socket mount, and the backplate will get in the way (as noted). Remove the backplate, not the trim, to fix. Also, there is a review that says this is great because it is dimmable, but you need to replace the whole thing when the light bulb dies. Umm, no. . . That depends entirely on the light bulb. This is just a piece of metal. Metal trim. This product has no impact on whether or not your light is dimmable. When your light dies, replace the light bulb, leave the trim in place. You do not even need to remove the trim to change the light bulb. When you’re first setting it up, the trim has a tendency to jump the track at the rotation point. If it does not look even, or does not turn easily, that is probably the issue. Just back it out and pop it back into place. It should also glide in and out along the mounting springs. If it doesn’t glide in and out to remove, then you didn’t attach the springs correctly to the spring attachments.

Easy Peasy

Updated four existing can lights that had yellowed with age. I was initially concerned about the install, but once I figured out how they hook in, it was quick and easy. Plus they look clean and white. Goodbye eyesore lighting! Not to mention a decent value compared to big box hardware stores. Note, this is not a complete can light, only the cover. Light bulbs not included. I didn’t expect these things, but I know it can be confusing with so many virtual options. ????

Good replacement for older light fixtures

We renovated the house in 2017 and replaced our ceiling fixtures with recessed can lighting. I replace those cans with these so I could use HUE smart light bulbs to control the lighting via Alexa. Works great and you can direct the lighting if preferred. This could come in handy if you wanted to highlight any type of artwork on the wall. Highly recommend. They use to sell these at HD but no longer at my local store.

Was replacing all of our early 90's house lighting trim that was yellowing with age. These were a direct replacement and brightened up the ceiling. Very easy to install.

I ordered these to replace some Pot Lights in a vaulted ceiling, they were so easy to install, probably took 2 minutes each. They work well and look great.
