Amazing!
This little guy was put to work immediately. The difference between not using it and using it is huge! So little dust is generated, while sanding drywall, that a dust mask is not even necessary. We used a pole - with an extension - on it and it securely screwed in to the female end of the sander. We hooked it up to a whole house vacuum and off to work it went. Definitely worth the money.

Attachment for a vacuum: adapter may need adapting.
There are two issues that I had with this hose-only vacuum sander. I bought it without the pole, guessing that I could use any standard pole that screwed into a broom. It is, indeed, a standard screw base. However, your standard plastic fitting does not hold up well to the pressure you may apply while using this product. I ended up buying poles with an aluminum fitting. For near work, it is easy to just use your hands, as long as you properly set the air release clips and do not block them with your hand. The biggest issue I had was with the adapter for my shop vac. I had to use one of the metal extension pieces that came with my vac in order to properly use the adapter. The outer ring was too small to slip over my hose attachment area, and the inner adapter was the same size as the hose, itself. It fits nicely over the metal extension that came with my shop vac. The second issue I had was with the way the ends of the sanding material are fastened down. It is not a standard screw down-which keeps it from overtightening and breaking. While I was working with the sander, it would often come undone. It was annoying, but not a deal breaker.

Sander just arrived - looks real good - look forward to using this new one
I had the older Hyde vacuum sander that you hold by hand, it worked quite well, but wore me out using it. This new one will attach to one of my poles and add a better body position to my sanding with the vacuum. I look forward to using it in the next few weeks, in my new rooms.

Does grab a lot of the dust
Bought this to do my ceiling after popcorn removal and applying a skim coat. Needless to say working on the ceiling stinks and makes for a long day craning your neck. With that being said, I was looking for a tool that would make sanding easier. Here's my opinion..... It comes with one adapter which fits a large shop vac hose or you omit the adapter and attach directly to your smaller shop vac which I had. FYI, my motor blew out , only 2.5 hp, so be mindful of that, use a bigger unit if avl. The tubing is light and unobtrusive. The sanding screens barely fit. The head of the vacuum flops all over the ceiling unless you apply very firm pressure while sanding. That makes it tiring to use and sometimes you sand off more than you'd like because of the xtra pressure. The suction control makes no sense. You turn the collar left or right but it never made a difference. It really did suck up 75-85% of the dust. On occasion you have to jiggle or tap the sanding screen to clear it but not that often. After a sore neck and shoulders I decided to remove the paint stick and use it as a hand sander for better control. That helped, but that was tricky too because it's not shaped to be held in the hand. It really would be of better use on walls. If needing to do a ceiling I would invest in an orbit vaccum sander or buy the proper hand held vacuum sander which I think Hyde makes as well. For the $40 bucks I paid it helped, but in the future I would only use it on my walls. It definitely did cut down on the dust accumulation. If you just have the patience and can figure out how to keep the vacuum head from flopping all over the ceiling this could be a good tool.

It works!
This sander works as advertised. With it hooked up to my 5hp shop vac I'd guess it sucks up 90% of the dust, which is huge. There is a learning curve, however. The sander requires some finesse to move it smoothly on the wall surface. I like to use 120 grit sanding sheets for general and finish sanding. Even with the suction vents turned on fully (reducing the suction at the head of the unit)the sanding head tends to cling to the surface. The trick is lots of angle in the extension pole and just walk along with the sander either pushing or pulling it, not both. Don't try to vigorously sand one area with short strokes or you will get frustrated. Use smooth, long strokes. I am a contractor who's biggest drywall jobs are the occasional basement or room remodels, so this sander works well for a minimal investment. In fact, I highly recommend that if you are thinking of buying this unit, also purchase the handheld version of this sander sold on Amazon.Hyde Tools 09165 Dust-Free Drywall Vacuum Hand Sander with 6-Foot Hose With the pair of these units you will be prepared for both ceiling and wall/spot sanding applications. I know that some of the reviewers here said that they could not connect the hose of this unit to the hose of their shop vac (creating a 12-16 foot hose). Both this and the handheld unit I received came packed with several adapters for different hose/vac diameter matings. I had no trouble matching up my Rigid shop vac hose to the hose supplied with the unit thereby making one long hose which was perfect. Things to be aware of: 1. This will burn through your sanding sheets much faster than a standard sander. The design of the pad on these is sort of a grid with large channels to allow the dust to be sucked away without clogging and it works great. The downside is the grid pattern wears through the sheet much faster than a regular rubber padded sander. Expect to go through 3 sheets where you may normally only use 1 sheet. 2. There will still be SOME dust, but this thing all but eliminates the residual dust (the kind that gets over everything in the room) and cuts out 90% of direct falling dust. If you take your time and leave the pad in contact with the surface for a half second after each stroke you can get almost all the dust. If these things last even a few jobs they will have paid for themselves 10 times over. They do seem well made with good quality plastics, but it is still plastic. The rubber boot on this unit is actually kind of cool how it works. Don't hesitate to try these out. They do work as described and with a bit of practice they are quite efficient tools that save your lungs and the environment.

Easy to use, super effective
I'm using this with a very strong shop vac, and it's absolutely amazing. Barely any dust, i don't need to wear my mask and have minimal clean up. A little more dust generated when sanding a ceiling, but really minimal. For the value, this product is awesome - highly recommend. I bought perforated sandpaper and it creates a super strong suction cup. I use it with a strong metal painter's pole to support the movement and it's been flawless. Couldn't be happier for the price. 5 stars

Functions well
If you apply too much pressure at the wrong angle, this thing could break. Since this does not come with a handle, you could pick one up probably from a dollar store. I just happen to have one around. It won't eliminate all of the dust, despite what you may see on YouTube.

Hyde Dust Free Sander So-So
The Hyde Dust-Free Vacuum Sander doesn't do the job. I purchased it 1 month ago and just used it for the first time today. Awkward, flip-flop sander head is difficult to control and more often mars the finish. I wanted to return the item but my return window closed 2 days ago. Would not recommend this product. Use a regular pole sander with low-dust control compound and if you have a good renovators fan open a window and let the dust get sucked out and then shop vac what's left. You get what you pay for I guess and I should've known better.

Is a gadget , not a tool.
I’ve seen all the good reviews and the idea was , I’ll give it a try. I’m a construction worker and sometimes there is no time to cover and protect everything , when doing touch ups. So , I attached a 6 feet pole and go. Go where ? This thing is a disaster. Can’t be used with a pole . Is flipping over and damaging the plaster. Without the pole , is wirking somehow , for a little patch here and there . Definitely not made to make money with .
