My dogs love this!
My sole purpose of purchasing these was to put peanut butter in them and then freeze so my dogs can have a treat to work on once I leave the house. They work as intended and my dogs could not be happier! It keeps them busy and they work hard to make sure they get every single bit of PB!

Great toy for dog stimulation using treats - doesn't last
I got this for my bernese mountain dog. She is a chewer and is very food motivated. I can stick some treats in here and it keeps her occupied. Unfortunately she is smart and progressively gets better at getting treats out. This toy does a better job though than other toys of similar shape at actually keeping the treat in. There are some prongs that help keep whatever treat you put in, in there. This keeps my dog engaged longer than some other treat dispensing toys. The only problem I have is the longevity of this. My dog will chew one up in about 3 months. The trade off is the challenge that this toy provides in getting the treat out. This is a toy she loves, gets more use out of, but ultimately needs replacement more often.

Not for strong chewers
Keeps our dog busy! However this is not for strong chewers. He was able to chew the sides of the squirrel off. Just keep an eye on the toy if your dog is a strong or aggressive chewer

Senior Dog
I noticed a lot of people who reviewed these bought them for young dogs and puppies. My dog is a pitbull/Lab mix, not a heavy chewer and is pushing 13, isn't nearly as active as he used to be but because he's very food driven I thought he might enjoy this toy. I've used the squirrel 3 times with him now and while I like it, I wish I loved it. My dog isn't in love with squirrel, which made me a little sad, I can tell when he really likes a new toy. When someone comes home he always runs to pick up his newest toy, and stands at the door with it making silly growl noises, He didn't do this with Squirrel. I think he thinks its a bit too heavy and I'd have to agree that it's a little on the heavy side but I imagine that helps keep dogs from just shredding it to pieces to get to the food inside. The squirrel is my first "kong" type toy ever, I've been eyeballing them for ages and was just worried my dog wouldn't be interested, I caught this as a lightning deal and I didn't want to pass it up, I really liked the idea of the prongs making it a bit challenging as opposed to a gaping hole like the actual Kong brand. it definitely seems durable, and while it does have a slight odor to it as mentioned by other reviewers..it honestly just reminds me of that typical rubber dog toy smell. I also like that it seems to be clean up pretty easily, I don't have a dishwasher, but the outside wipes clean pretty effortlessly, even with dried on peanut butter, and the inside, while a bit more work does come clean pretty easily too. So far My biggest complaint is finding a treat that's the right size. I haven't cut any of the prongs and His kibble (Nutrisource Grain Free) mixed with peanut butter seems to fall out too quickly, He'll finish it off in 10 or 15 minutes. When I tried cutting up different things they seem to get lodged in and not fall out at all which eventually makes him lose interest or again the pieces fall out too quickly. I can't seem to find a happy medium. I'd ideally like to see him spend at least a half hour trying to get everything out. While I'm worried about the mess I'm going to try the suggestion from other reviewers about freezing it. It's currently in the freezer with layers of peanut butter kibble, moist and Meaty and pumpkin puree.

Hard from my small dog to maneuver
I got a size small for my shih Tzu it is definitely durable and hard. Has a funky smell. It seems to be hard for my dog too be able to get the treats out.

Excellent toy for dispensing treats
This is our dogs FAVORITE toy. In fact, we have two so she's never without it while doing a rotation of one to play with while the other is being cleaned. The size itself is probably geared more towards a large breed (est. 60lbs) OR for a smaller dog with high ambitions; like our 28lb dog who loves larger toys). We'll put Cheerios (or the off-brand) in this toy and she'll pick it up and drop it repeatedly to get them to fall out. Keeps her busy for a little while.

My dogs love it so much that I just ordered 2 more!
I adopted a 10 month old Australian Cattle Dog a couple weeks ago and he has a difficult time settling down in his crate for the night. I was giving him a dental chew but he would chew it up in a couple minutes and be bored. The trainer suggested a treat dispensing toy. I needed something sturdy and safe and a lot of them seemed like they would break if he chewed on them and I didn't feel comfortable letting him be alone in his crate with them. I came across the Petsafe Busy Buddy Squirrel Dude Dog Toy (I'll just refer to it as "Squirrel Dude" from now on) and based on the reviews, decided to give it a try. He LOVES it! I didn't trim down the little protrusions inside it so it's a bit challenging but he doesn't seem to mind. I've had similar toys to this but they didn't have the protrusions inside that keep the treats from coming out quickly so they didn't keep my dogs' interest for as long. I like the Squirrel Dude especially because I can use pretty much any treat I want so I don't have to change what I give my dogs. I find the training sized mini treats I usually buy work especially well with this toy and I break up bits of biscuits too. The dog I bought this for also plays with the Squirrel Dude outside of the crate too so it seems to be a great all around toy and most importantly, it's stood up to the destructive force that is a cattle dog pup! My beagle-lab mix just had surgery and she needs to be in the crate to keep her calm and quiet and so I filled the Squirrel Dude with yummy treats and she's quietly enjoying her resting time without fuss. So it seems like the Squirrel Dude is a home run! I ordered 2 more because my third dogs hasn't even had a chance to play with the Squirrel Dude because he's been so popular with the other 2! It seems between the 2 other dogs, Squirrel Dude never gets any down time. This toy is awesome and is exactly what I needed. Plus, the price is so reasonable, it didn't break the bank to buy 3 of them so each of my dogs has their own.

Robust toy fit for Staffords
My sister's SBT dog loves his Squirrel Dude & it is still going strong after months of use. And this is a dog that destroyed a Kong in 5 minutes that I gave him to test out for my dogs (I live abroad and need to buy toys when I'm over). So I was expecting it to be a great buy for my 2 dogs. Unfortunately it doesn't really interest either of them. The toy is very solid & also bounces erratically which makes for fun chasing, but it just doesn't hold their interest. One of them will chuck it around for a while to dislodge treats, but isn't interested in chewing it like my sister's dog. I suppose it's possible it's too big for them, because normally one in particular loves to chew plastic/rubber things. I'd still say it's well worth trying as it is so resilient - if you dog likes it then it'll be excellent value.

My dog is nearly 12 and had these for nearly 10 years
I think on average I buy a new Squirrel Dude once a year. I have a very strong chewer Jack Russell - she adores her Squirrel dude they keep her busy a fair old while. One of the best toys I have ever bought my dog and pleased the design has never been changed.

Purple squirrels rock (or so my dog would say!)
This fab, tough rubber squirrel food dispenser is a must if like me you have a food obsessed dog, as it stops them wolfing down all their food in one go. Wainwright's Adult and James Wellbeloved Adult kibble work well in it - the biscuits come out easy enough so the dog doesn't get bored but not so quickly it only take 1 minute to empty it. If you have a large dog you'll probably find you have to fill it more than once, if you want to feed your dog all of his meal from the squirrel, as it doesn't quite hold a cup of biscuits. My dog loves his and has quickly learnt to fetch it to me when I tell him to find his 'purple squirrel'. It's a great product and unlike a lot of feeders and toys made for dogs these days I think it will last a long time too, because so far this tough squirrel has coped really well with my GSD squeezing it's belly several times a day!

occupies the dogs
Great for stuffing full of treats and occupying dogs. Quite a firm shell that isn't easy to break through (for small dogs), they have to throw the squirrel around or squeeze it for the treats to fall out. There are plastic flaps inside that stop the food coming out too easily, you can shorten these to make it easier for the treats to fall out. Size wise, small is fairly small, but good for my Border Terriers. I've also got the medium size for them too.

We can't get the treats out
I bought this to keep my Border collie entertained, it is hardy and has stood up well to being bounced and chewed by both my collie and my labrador puppy, but sadly neither dog has managed to get treats out of it.
