Ignore the arrows
A lot of people seem to have trouble getting their blender to recognize the containers. I did too at first, trying to get the arrows lined up and all. The solution is to ignore the arrows and gray areas and simply screw the blade part onto the container just enough so it doesn’t leak when turned over and set on the blender. Then plug the cord in, turn the dial to “1” and then using both hands tighten the container until zeroes replace the dashes on the display screen. You’re ready to go. When done, use both hands again to loosen the container just enough so you can unscrew the blade part by hand once it’s off the machine. Ignore the arrows and don’t try to get it right before placing it onto the motor. Using both hands makes it simple.

Buyer beware
I needed to contact the manufacturer because the motor wouldn’t recognize the base unit for the cups. The Ascent series has a self sensor so the motor knows the size of the container that is being used. The instructions that come with the kit do not contain all of the information that is needed in order for the motor to recognize the base unit. There are clear, nearly invisible, arrows on the base unit as well as on the cups. The arrows on the cups have a range (also clear and hard to see) that must align with the arrow on the base unit. Unfortunately, I don’t have the hand strength to be able to tighten the cup to the base unit to get it into the range required. I had to have a man help, which means the manufacturer is making a product that needs a warning that the strength required to tighten the cup to the base may be too high for someone to use properly. For a product that costs so much, I shouldn’t need help to get it to work. Vitamix sent the instructions after I contacted them through Amazon, but they failed to respond when I contacted them directly. The instructions included with the kit lead me to believe they are aware of this issue, yet the instructions don’t mention the alignment of the arrows at all. If I wasn’t already invested in the blender, I wouldn’t have made this purchase. I would not recommend buying a Vitamix because of this, and because of their attitude in the emails.

Works
At first I was going to return because it seemed like it wasn’t working but after going on you tube and seeing that the blade and cup both need to be aligned with the arrows it works like a charm basically keep the arrow on bottom blade from landing on the grey areas of the main cup

Wish 20oz could hold more.
Love being able to just blend one serving quickly and cleanly but I wish that 20oz held a bit more... because it usually has some air bubbles after blending which makes it hard to blend the MAX amount indicated on the cup. Having the SAME lid size (so that the attachments still would work) but a larger volume of 36oz (maybe 1000-1200ml) would make this even better.

Works for me. Glad I brought them.
There were some bad reviews, and I was hesitant. After all, they are expensive, and it would be quite an investment. But I’m glad I made the purchase. I no longer have to use the big container for an individual drink. There is a little challenge putting on the blade and getting the cup to sync with your machine, but once you get the hang of it, you will be satisfied. These cups are durable and great accessories to an already wonderful machine, “The Vitamix.” Many thanks.

Solves my daily problem
Yes, there's a bit of a trick to get these to work with the Ascent models, but once you know how to do it (consult YouTube), you'll be fine. That said, the fussiness of the product deserves a star deduction. I wear glasses and it's just entirely frustrating to try to line up the arrows in anything but the best light. Alright, gripe over. I love this smoothie attachment. It works perfectly with my Daily Harvest smoothies and, since I can drink right out of the blending cup, it means fewer dishes. In addition, I frequently use my Vitamix to make soups and there's nothing more frustrating than wanting to make a smoothie after a workout and realizing the base container is in the dishwasher...unwashed. The quality of the materials for the cup and bowl are on point for Vitamix and work well (aside from "Arrow-Alignment-Gate").

Unsurpassed Quality
Thick polycarbonate material. Thick and strong lids and gaskets. Built to not break and last a long time. Blade base is very heavy and solid. Bearings are TIGHT and smooth. The manufacturing really couldn't be much better quality. Design is great and function is on par. Screwing on the blade base and lids is a bit tight and will be difficult for anyone with smal hands, weak hands or without much experience manipulating objects with their hands in the actual real world. I am a woodworker with medium sized but strong hands and needed to apply a good amount of force to tighten the blade base enough to trigger the built in proximity sensors of the base. This ISNT a negative point though, there is just no other substitute for mechanical strength. Operation is very quiet and effective. The only thing I'd like to see is better sharpening on the blades and a larger size on the bowl as well as a wider base on the cup. The narrow inside diameter on the bottom of the cup makes it prone to large chunks getting stuck and not descending to the blades during blending. Plus with the lid on the slender base and very wide top makes it super top heavy and super easy to knock over. Would I buy again and recommend to a friend? Absolutely and absolutely.

Does not detect on base so does not work.
This blade has a self detect feature where the blender needs to detect the blender base in order to even turn on. Mine does not and I have the proper Ascent model for this blade and bottle. Been a useless purchase unless Vitamix can solve this and I have contacted them with my invoice. Will have to return for refund soon if they do not send me a new one so will see how their support works shortly.

Simplicity
The kit is exactly what I needed for on-the-go food prep. The base does not recognize the small containers sometimes and I have to fidget the base until it does. The smallcontainer requires quite a lot of liquid to blend, I could not make a thicker guacamole for example, it came out a bit runny due to the lemon juice I needed to add to blend. But overall very good quality, sturdy materials.

High quality product.
To have Ascent A3500 detect the Bowl or Cup, tighten Blade base onto Blending Cup by finding the small triangle on both, align them as close as you can and tighten. Bring it to the Ascent unit and see if the bowl has been detected by switching the unit ON and see if the Container Detect light located in the bottom left had corner of the display goes out. Note: The blending bowl and blade base does not have to be inserted into the Motor Base to be detected.

Great!
Expensive, but it’s blending my smoothies smoother than with any other blending cup.
