A Little Awkward to Use

Takes a few tries to get the lock lined up. The loose design of the chain and weight make it a bit awkward to get used to.

its an okay lock. heres why... i am a bike messenger in nyc and this lock takes way too long to unlock and lock my bike into a pole. it also takes a long time to unlock and put around my waist. because the actual locking mechanism was not designed properly, trying to unlock the lock with the key is extremely cumbersome. in other words, the lock jams up and takes a couple of tries to open it. in addition, when trying to lock the chain to a pole the key must remain inside the lock until you snap the chain into the hole. as a messenger this lock takes way too long to lock up. not only does it waist time it is too much of a hassle to everytime i lock up and unlock the chain. it might be good for commuters or people who want to park their bikes somewhere and don't have to make many stops a day. the good thing about this lock is that is is pretty beefy and will get the job done. however, in nyc you still need to arm yourself with a u lock for the back wheel because things always go missing here. the weight is heavy but not too heavy. ive lugged around way heavier bike chains than this, but this chain is the perfect size and weight. it will get the job done. so overall, an okay lock in my opinion. the lock is strong and will protect your bike but it depends on where you live, where you leave your bike and how long. if you live in nyc and plan to use this lock to lock your bike overnight, your bike will most likely be stolen by morning. this chain is not made for overnight use.

Worth it.

I got this for my brand new bike last July and after 6 months, I can say that the investment was worth it. It gives me the peace of mind i need to leave my bike locked up outside in the city. Of course, no bike lock is absolutely theft-proof, but this one does a good job of deterring would be bike thieves. The only cons are that it is a bit heavy, and the keys/lock mechanism seems a little sensitive, so just make sure you insert the key all the way before turning. There is no way of getting around the weight, but think of it as a workout regimen, and in no time, you won't notice the weight in your bag, except if you happen to be packing a lot of groceries or a laptop...than it gets a little heavy. I use this paired with the Kryptonite New York Standard U-Lock. I recommend this to all my biking friends.

Pretty solid (and heavy) piece. Buy longer version if you are using bike rack which front wheel slides in

Good Bike Lock

Good lock, I still have my bike. In a crime ridden neighborhood. Extra length makes lockup easy.

not too heavy not light, though makes thieves think twice before attempting

so far so good. no attempts to steal the bike. but as all say, any lock can be defeated (even a lock with a 6inch diameter of steal, grinder can cut into anything), though be diligent when parking the bike, place it front of a deli , restaurant or busy shop.

This thing has one purpose, to make your bike impervious to theft except in the case of someone showing up with an angle grinder, and there is no Defense against an angle grinder short of chaining a guard dog to your bike. The thing is heavy...you aren't going to want to carry it around 24/7 or while exercising/ training but it would be tolerable for commuting. If you plan or need to carry it 24/7 by wrapping around your seat or using a seat pouch I would probably recommend you look at the next level down, I think it's called the "keeper" since it will also suffice prevent theft from bolt cutters and hand tools but is much lighter and manageable. I bought this to secure my bike to my car carry rack so I don't intend to carry it on the bike.

heavier than I expected

I bought this without seeing it, if I did I would have bought one level below (called keeper something). It should be barely less secure than this one, but more manageable and not as heavy. Note that security depends on where you are using this lock, for example for manhattan this wont make it (judging from the huge chains I saw there), but for my country it should be more than enough (all the other bikes use way thinner cables here). I cant comment on durability or anything else because I forgot I had it on my backpack and they wouldnt let me on the plane with this, so I had to leave it at NYC airport (they almost sent me to guantanamo,..I guess this would make a good weapon, though i dont see how anyone could kidnap a plane with a razor blade after it hapened once..still silly me, I just forgot i had it)

Reliabale and trustworthy, yet...

I like this lock, because it looks sturdy, yet flexible and I can secure different parts of the bike. It's a bit heavy, but OK to carry along in a basket like I do. I haven't been a victim of bike theft and I hope I won't be.

Heavier than I expected for this security level

It's not a long lock so best used where is dedicated stands or hooks. However it is heavy, closer to 2kg. It's a reputation for being difficult to open so might take some getting used to. It's 9.5cm chain links so probably a bit of a deterrent. That said it does what I expected it to do so no complaints

Good chunky lock

I use it as a secondary to a D Lock or on the kids bikes round the frames. Its a bit of a tight fit on the two frames. Its looks are certainly going to deter a casual thief

Theoretically great.. love the concept/idea/design.. but in practice, the key snapped off in the lock very easily because it kept jamming from new, despite common sense, care and maintenance research.. we assumed it was our mistake and persevered, but came to realise it was simply slightly faulty, and key number 2 went the same way 3 months later.. it never really functioned without a slight or unpredictable jam. We felt slightly irresponsible because we could not retrieve it from the post it got stuck on. This also meant we could not return it. It was a birthday gift that we simply had to give up on.

UPDATE - lock gets stuck and cannot use it anymore

I wouldn't buy this lock ever again. I used it for over a year, but always kept the lock and bicycle indoors and after unlocking my bike and locking a lock itself, the key wouldn't open the lock ever again. I'm very disappointed as it isn't cheap and seemed good... but not for long.
