It isn't solid metal. The plate curves at the edges to make a lip to make it seem that it's about 1/8" thick, but it is hollow on the backside. If any pressure is put on the face of this plate at will bend and bow in. Still an OK looking plate.

This I ordered in Antique Brass and it's more gold than my knobs and very thin. I'm debating on keeping the ones that are already on my cabinets if I can clean them up good when I put the new knobs up. I'm changing from a white knob to an antique brass one and didn't realize the ones that are on the cabinets now will match and they seem thicker and stronger. If you're starting from scratch just know that these have more of a gold look than the antique brass. With that in mind they would be good.
