Wonderful activity toy for creative thinkers.
We purchased this for our grandson’s fifth birthday and were very impressed with the detailed instructions and suggestions that necessitates adult/child time with the child doing the work and the adult being the encourager. The directions and questions got an eager response from our yet non reader. We enjoyed how it made him work on figuring things out and then think about how he would do things differently (or not). Problem solving skills were challenged and worked through. The suggested projects are great and the possibilities endless!

This has been a very engaging toy for my 5 year old grandson. He loves it!
Easy to use. Stimulates children's imagination and creativity! This has been a very engaging toy for my 5 year old grandson. He loves it and can spend a good deal of time making different structures, taking them apart and then creating something new!

STEM
I am an elementary STEM teacher and my students love this. They can either build what’s on the cards or create their own ideas. Materials are durable even after lots of students using them.

Engineer Daddy’s favorite toy
I’m an engineer and I love that my four year old son enjoys building bridges and buildings with this set.

Not very sturdy/steady
I like this toy. It is educational but my kids had no idea they were actually learning. I would've liked it to be a bit more solid. The bridge posts don't fit in snug, they are kind of wobbly, making it difficult for little hands to place carefully under. Four year olds don't really have the dexterity to place two posts at the same time and if they flip the square part/tile, put the posts in place, then flip the part, few of the posts will inevitably fall. But it is still a neat toy that they enjoyed. The lesson plans it comes with are very nice, promoting critical thinking, attention to details, problem solving.

I didn’t want it to be easy to assemble!
I got this for my 12 and 10-year-old grandkids to have something to do when they visit me. This definitely kept them busy for quite a few hours over a weekend.

Good set, probably best for 8-10 year olds
I got this for my 6 year old for Christmas. He loves building toys and I'm trying to get him interested in engineering. The instructions are a bit vague so he still needs quite of bit of help with this. It also came with stickers but the directions didn't tell us where to put them. Since my son is still learning how to read, the planning booklet that came with it is pretty useless for him. This is probably better for older kids. The quality is really good though and he does like building his own things with the pieces. I'm hoping he'll become more interested in the engineering aspect of it in a year or two.

Great stem building set for budding engineer!
Got this for my 5 year old budding engineer. At first he just built simple stacked buildings but after seeing the included suggestion cards he was building draw bridges and other complex structures. It was really cool to see it come together on a more complex level!

Good product - but check the contents!
Bought this as a Christmas present. great fun although a sheet of stickers was provided with no detail as to where they all go - so had to try and work it out from cover on the box. Greta toy which I think will grow with your child as lots of different levels of build and problems to solve. Check your contents (list is in the brochure included) as ours was missing the string which meant some of the models could not be made. Amazon replaced quickly but replacement was also missing a couple of components, so check before you give it as a present!

Fantastic, practical, thought-provoking and a bit different
What a good construction set this is! This combines the fine motor control skills associated with construction toys, with role play and imagination elements, practical replication of real world problems, and the development of skills involved in planning a particular outcome, and the problem-solving techniques required to achieve the end goal. The Learning Resources brand is a traditional manufacturer of educational toys - their usual market has been education settings: schools, nurseries, etc. More recently, their toys have started to be made more widely available. Some still seem to be priced in accordance with the high pricing attracted by the traditional, niche educational market, but this set seems to be at about the the right level. The classroom resource origins of the set are demonstrated in the photocopiable 'Planning Sheet' (in addition to English, sheets are included in Spanish, French, and German) but there's no reason that this shouldn't be used as an extension of learning at home. Indeed, you could talk about architects and planning, and how buildings are designed as well as the construction workers. When they construct buildings, the builders need plans to work from, they don't just build! It's almost impossible not to find some kind of new development going on relatively locally. Perhaps you're having home improvements such as an extension done. If so, the set could be used to mirror real world activity that's very meaningful to your child. There was a quality to the 'girder'-based city construction theme that reminded me of the amazing black and white photos of New York construction engineers in the 1930s working on the creation of skyscrapers, so I've been looking at some of these images with my 5 and 8 year old nephews. This is such an interesting set - combining construction pieces such as posts, platforms, wheels, arches, strings, gears, a pulley, planks, and cranks with a couple of characters, flags, cones and a truck. 10 double sided design cards are included. These include steps needed to create certain construction types, but also add questions and suggestions for children to attempt their own designs to address a specific need. The parts are nicely made and colourful, and easy to distinguish from one another. The design and pieces are a bit different from other construction sets. Right up there with K'Nex, and Gears!Gears!Gears! The only thing I didn't like about this set was the number of non-recyclable, separate little plastic bags the parts were packaged in. Why not use recycled and recyclable paper bags, or compostable ones?
