Crude, but works
This thing is VERY cheaply made, with thin, minimal plastic. The hose is also really thin and cheap, with fragile fittings. If you need to use a wrench to tighten them, then do it slowly and carefully because you can crush or warp the fittings very easily. The two biggest corners that were cut are 1. The lack of rubber seals for the fittings, so they may leak unless you have some spares. 2. No masonry screws or washers included for installing. You will need to provide your own 1/4" x 2" masonry bits and washers. Almost all other retractable hose reels provide these items for a reason. If you don't already have them, you will spend more than buying a better unit. I would have sent this back if I didn't already have these items. At least this is designed to be quickly unhooked and stored for winter with a single pivot point. I would highly recommend doing so to maximize the useful life of this thing. It's both cheap, and cheaply made. It doesn't include useful items that most competitors include. It won't survive any rough handling or extreme weather conditions like cold winters or direct sunlight for weeks on end in hot summers. However, if you have the extras I mentioned above, and install it in a shaded spot for spring/summer use then put it away for fall/winter, it's worth it's price. It's lightweight (because it's so cheap, lol), and includes a handle area for removing and installing. On a side note, it also does not include any kind of nozzle. Again, almost all retractable hose reels include one.

I like because of the form

Was easy to install and use. Time will tell how long it lasts.
I had to replace a wall mounted hose reel from suncast. They made the new reel so cheap it broke after 2 months. I decided to try the liberty self winding reel. So far we all love it. I may replace other hose reels around home as the other reels brake.

Neat!
No more unsightly hose lying around or manual winding and dirty hands!

Two issues with hose fitting, but otherwise has worked well during the past summer
The reel itself has worked well after one summer of use. For new users beware that you just pull it like a 1/4 inch out to reel back in: pulling further does not let the reel spool back, which caused me some frustration before I learned the "short pull" method to retract the hose. But more important is that the hose fitting has two problems: 1) it started leaking after 3 months of use, as other reviews have also complained. You need to buy a 1/2 inch barb to male 3/4 inch garden hose thread adapter with hose clamp to replace this; 2) the threaded portion of the supplied fitting is very thin. This means that when you screw into some hose sprayers or valves, the threaded portion disappears into the fitting and this makes it very difficult to tighten or remove. Finally, it would be nice if the material on this reel made it clear that the hose is not standard garden hose. It is 1/2" hose. In my case that means lower volume as well.

This is an excellent product - so far
Absolutely no complaints so far. Took maybe 15 minutes to install on a treated 4x4 fence post, easy hookup to the water supply and hose reeled back in smoothly. But you do have to hold on to the hose as it retracts but all of ratchet-type devices work this way. I would HIGHLY recommend not using the included mounting screws. Go get 1/4" x 2" Stainless Steel machine screws with a socket head and SS washers. Even plated hardware will start to rust in pretty short order so avoid this by using SS.

Died after 6 weeks addendum 2 weeks later see below
Hose stopped retracting after 6 weeks (too late for Amazon 30 return policy). Customer service at Liberty Garden Products, to date, are shining me on. Addendum 2 weeks later. Actually Liberty Garden folks stepped up to the plate and sent me another. I took apart the old one to see what broke. The retract spring (a big robust spiral spring) broke. It appears to be a manufacturing defect in that particular spring. Anyway, I'm back in business. I would note as others have mentioned, the water from the hose, especially if it sits there awhile, comes out sudsy. Would not use this for pet water or to water a vegetable garden. Flowers, no big deal.

Just Ok for the price
Small hose retractor not very smooth

Cheap quality, stay away
Had problems with this from the very beginning. The reel skips and doesn't wind the hose completely down all the time. Water pressure is minimal as they used a non standard hose size. The quality on this is subpar and it quickly shows with cracking plastic everywhere.

Garbage, don't waste your time...
After only a few months of light use I cannot get the hose attachment off seeing the brass hose connection is spinning and will now have to be cut off and a new end installed. Very very light duty.

Great 1/2 inch retractable hose.
Fast shipping, product was in good condition, brand new. Very easy to install, I used1/4 by 1 3/4 tap cons with a quarter inch washer. Checked for leaks before installing and it worked, nice clean look and it retracts well, feels sturdy.

Skinny hose
I was replacing one that I had bought at Costco a long time ago. I was disappointed at the size of the hose - quite a bit smaller than the previous garden hose -a skinny black one - but it does have a strong retracting recoil so it works nicely and was easy to put up and use.

Worked great
Easy to install Used on my garden twice a day for two years Used all winter on my rink with the ease of the one pin to remove and store In non frigid temp was good. Fitting are average but Used with guardina type quick connects. 1/2 is a bit of a setback but not a end all
