Looks and functions exactly as depicted. Looks very nice in my workspace. The mechanism is completely silent, unlike older ones that made that loud springy sound. I looked high and low for a 100 watt hinged desk lamp. If you are searching, you've probably already found out that most or these lamps are rated only for a 40 watt max bulb. This is the only 100 watt lamp of its kind that I have found, unless you want to spend two hundred dollars for a designer architect lamp. The only complaint is that the clamp base doesn't hold on when adjusting the position of the lamp. (I thought about rating it 5 stars anyway, because I have other equipment with this type of clamp, and the design of the clamp itself just doesn't work all that well.) If you are using this OR ANY clamp lamp to illuminate a work surface, use caution or just hold onto the clamp when adjusting the lamp to avoid the risk of it detaching and falling onto your project. A weighted base can run the same risk if the lamp arm is fully extended, so I guess it's just time for someone to invent a better solution. For my part, I cut sections out of a rubber jar lid gripper (those thin rubber pads that help you get a better grip when opening a new jar) and superglued them to the contact surfaces of the clamp to increase grip. Not perfect, but big improvement. NOTE: If you use a 100 watt incandescent bulb, expect some heat. In my case, that's part of what I bought it for; a "mild" heat lamp. If you're using if for a more traditional purpose like reading or desk work, consider lower wattage or a more energy efficient bulb type. I'll probably buy another one of these to save as a backup or alternate use. Great value, looks beautiful.

Update: The base clamp is giving me some grief after using it for a couple of days. I am trying to make it more stable, but it isn't that troublesome. I did notice that "Globe Electric 56963 Metal Clamp - Swing Arm Multi-Joint Desk Lamp, 32", Black" makes what appears to be a better clamp for their lamp and it looks largely comparable to this one. I've purchased one and will update this review later. This lamp will accommodate an E26 base (that's the standard size American bulb). I tried other lamps where the bulb sticks out the front of the hood. It will take up to a 100W incandescent or a 23W Compact Fluorescent (CFL). I put in an IKEA 16 W LED (RYET) bulb. This gives me the same light output as a 100W incandescent (1600 lumen) without all the heat. FWIW I did see a negative review for this bulb, but have not had trouble with mine. I liked almost everything about this lamp. I did not have troubles with the base (as other reviewers mentioned) and the lamp will extend some distance. I am able to extend the lamp about 28" and have it be about a foot over the surface. Beyond that, the plastic base has some difficulty holding. The materials used in the construction are descent and mine held up well in shipping. This lamp is very similar to the lamps I had 30 years ago, but I think the metal is a little thinner (of course I looked better back then too ;)). Of course, I spent a little more than $20 (US), so I don't think I am too worried about that. The bell (hood) is removable, so it makes it a snap to clean if you need to (black shows a lot of dust).

Not built to last

Looks snazzy, but problematic from early on. I purchased this in 2018. The wiring is not solid, so when I repositioned it, the lamp would flicker. It was never clear where was the wiring issue or loose connection. The bulbs I use are $20 full spectrum bulbs, quite pricey. The loose connection is shortening bulb life dramatically, to the point that today, a bulb I had only be using for about 2 months burned out. This product is not a good investment, especially for the high price they are charging. I would recommend looking elsewhere. There's nothing more annoying than trying to work and having the lighting unit flickering and making clicking sounds. Also, the articulations never really tightened down properly for precise positioning. The whole thing is janky, in fact the most janky one I've ever owned.

Gotta love a RED lamp!

I've been using this style of lamp for many years--it's the best all-around task lamp style I've found. You can adjust the position easily for close-up work or further back for general lighting. They're terrific for crafts, sewing, reading and doing paperwork. That said, there's a lot of cheaply made lamps like this that don't hold up at all. The switches stop working. The hinges fail. The one I'm replacing didn't even have springs to support the hinges. I like this specific lamp, first of all, because it's RED! It's not easy to find that color, especially in a lamp that's made well. This one is sturdy, the hinges work smoothly. I like the large knob on the turn switch--makes it easier to turn on and off. If you're worried about the clamp, there's a sturdier one for sale on Amazon. Another lamp I ordered here came with the alternative clamp, which I like a lot. But this clamp works fine for me. This is the best lamp I've seen, in this color, in this price range--and I did a LOT of looking before buying.

NOT made in USA as stated in "Country of Origin" - it is CHINA.

I bought this specific item because the "Country of Origin" was shown as USA. It is NOT -- it is CHINA. I was VERY disappointed when I opened the box. Product-wise, it will do the job. I hope that Amazon corrects this important fact in the product description. It is a terrible clerical error!

arrived late and a little busted

(eventually) arrived missing some screw/nut that holds the lamp to the swing arm. I found the missing screw in the box but the nut was nowhere to be found. Luckily I had some replacement hardware in my collection of random screws to replace the missing parts.

Good lamp

I purchase this lamp for lighting my paintings while I paint them. The light does exactly what I need it to do and does not move from its spot. I had zero issues with mine. It’s a good buy.
