The brass tacks

Ok, so to start with I've had many pairs of Ray-Bans since the early 90s, as well as Oakleys and Julbo. I just received them in the mail so this is literally a very quick unboxing review. I read a lot of reviews before getting them and while waiting for them in regards to if they're made in China or not... What is the build quality? Are they glass lenses? Do they come with the regular Ray-Ban accessories? Are they used... So this is definitely a brand new pair that I received. Unfortunately I did not get glass lenses. However this is in the description of the product that they have plastic lenses and Metal Frames. I'm not quite sure what people are talking about when they say that the lenses have Ray-Ban etched in them. I've had many pairs of Ray Bans like I said and they all have Ray-Ban and the tea for polarized and the right lens dot-dot. Meaning the right lens if you're wearing them. the arms do say Ray Ban on them. The Temple's also have Ray Ban on them. they are not heavy at all like some people have said, and mine to say made in Italy on them. they also say made in Italy on the box that they came in as well as the size of the glasses and other information pertaining to the sunglasses. Again I don't know what people are talking about when they say that they got all of these permutations of these glasses. I got exactly what I ordered they are made in Italy according to the writing on the arm, and being 15 minutes in the ownership I'm pretty happy ☺

Authentic AND Made in China

I found these sunglasses in Sunglass Hut and I decided to buy them based on looks. When I got home, I found the price on Amazon was so much cheaper that I bought those as well. I planned to return the pair I bought at the Sunglass Hut and keep the pair from Amazon. So for a few days, I had both pairs (Amazon and Sunglass Hut) I could directly compare. First some clarification on the "Made In". I saw these sunglasses in several stores and they were all Made in China. I couldn't find a pair that was made in Italy in stores. I'm not sure when production switched, but it obviously did. Maybe it wasn't a great business decision, but I don't think it's worthy of a 1 star review. Unless it can be proven that these are knock offs, people should rate the product and not the country that it was made in. For a comparison between the 2 pairs, I only noticed one very small difference. On the right lens, there is a small RB etched into the glass. The etching was a little sloppy on the pair that came from Amazon. It's really splitting hairs, but the etching quality was clearly lower quality. You could only make out the R. Maybe that means that it was a defective item from Ray-Ban. Probably not. But I don't know their quality control process enough to find out. Other than that extremely small detail, there was no difference between the 2 pairs. As for the sunglasses themselves, I like the style. The polarized lenses are nice and they are well made. The catch with being very well made is that they are a little on the heavy side. But that's what you get when you have a metal frame and glass lenses.

Seems genuine ray-bans from what I can tell

My main concern with buying from amazon Sunglass Express was whether this was a genuine or fake product, esp given that this retails for about 50% higher at rayban's official website and Sunglass Hut. The product packaging and product itself seemed to pass every fake vs real test folks mentioned on youtube -- except one - the R-B inscription on the nosepads were not upside down as most sites mentioned it should be in a genuine Ray Ban - in my case, one was upside down and the other was right side up. This aroused suspicions, though I had an identical piece purchased from Macy's Sunglass Hut (for $195!) and this seemed to look/feel exactly like the original. Anyway, I shot an email to ray ban asking if Sunglass Express is listed as an authorized retailer of Ray Ban sunglasses, and the response I got back from Ray Ban customer care was: "Thank you for your email. I do see Sunglass Express listed as an authorized dealer. If you have any further questions please contact us at 866-472-9226. Thank you for your time." This did make me feel better about purchasing this on amazon, though i'm still concerned about the inverted nosepad inscription -- is that a definitive sign that something is amiss, or is that not really a failsafe test? Overall, have no complaints so far based on actual inspection (side by side with a confirmed genuine piece) and usage.

Perfect glasses / vendor

I ordered 2 pairs of Ray Ban sunglasses at the same time. Both pairs were shipped together in a large box with plenty of protection. The package arrived on time (I have AMZ Prime) and the items were both in perfect condition. This pair of sunglasses has an all-around frame and seems quite sturdy. The lenses are quite large (almost aviator style) but it's a very good looking pair of glasses. These will replace a pair of RB3179 I have owned for 4 years and which have a partial frame. The RB3179 had issues (at least with me) in terms of the frame since the lenses attached to the frame via 2 screws at each corner of the lens. This approach ended up cracking both lenses. I replaced the glasses a couple of times and finally gave up, choosing to wear the glasses with the cracked lenses. I still wear them after 4 years so it's more of an appearance issue and the frustration of paying top $ for glasses that are poorly designed. As I said earlier, these last comments apply to RB3179 and NOT RB3379 (reviewed here). I love my RB and I hope that with the full frame (and no screws going through the lenses) this model will give me years of happy use.
