Life saver

I have an early age arthritis on one knee and the other had a tendinitis injury caused during work out in gym. I was training for a 4 day backpack hike in Grand Canyon when the injury happened. With this brace on both knees I was able to compete the hike without much difficulty. So I am a big fan of this product. Always wear them while hiking or running. Two sets alway stored in the car for use during any unplanned activity. Highly recommend it.

Simple but Effective!

I had meniscus surgery 2 years ago, and since then I have walked with a limp. This is not surprising, since my knee is not structurally the same as it once was. I tried the McDavid 425 knee support initially for a while, but it did not give the support I needed. Using the 425 I was walking slightly better, but still limping. I decided to try the McDavid 419. What a difference! This is a simple wrap type knee support, but it has 2 moveable foam rubber support pieces. These supports are velcro backed, and can be placed right where they are needed. This is makes this knee wrap different, and effective. I can walk just fine now, no more limping. I put one of these on as soon as I get up, and wear it all day. I wear this thing into the shower at night and wash it off, then hang it on the shower door to dry out. The material is similar to what is used in a wetsuit. It has held up just fine. I have 2 of these, and rotate their use so I always have a dry one available.. This product is simple, but effective!

Rubber pads on the inside do the magic

I’ve used similar mcdavid products for many years? This brace does not interfere with knee movement like larger braces. The rubber pads will help knee to track better and have more stability. I am 5’7 and about 150lbs and the small/medium fits well. I have bought several of these.

Very good

After trying a couple of knee braces with a lot more support, but were impossible to actually get ON my knee (and had terrible sizing), I gave up and went for this McDavid wrap with less support but the convenience of a velcro wrap instead of slide-on. I love that I can get this on just as easily as a full-leg immobilizer and I can adjust the sizing. It gives more support than I expected - it would be great for my knees on a normal day when I know I'll be out walking a lot or doing something strenuous. It is just barely enough support for my current knee injury (patellar dislocation); I wish the supports on each side of the knee were stronger - they easily could have made the support sides out of metal or hard plastic (like my larger immobilizer), but instead they are just thick foam.

A Mixed Review

Pros: - The included baffles allow you to provide extra support exactly where you need it... above, below, left or right of knee cap. - The kneecap is left uncovered , allowing knee to move properly Cons: as noted by another reviewer, the narrow width (height? up and down measure) of this knee support causes it to chafe the back of the leg, where it rubs while walking; and the area below the knee in front where it hits the shin bone/joint. The chafing is unfortunate, because otherwise, I'd be really happy with how this knee support works.

Best knee brace I have so far

I got this knee brace for my right knee that has osteoarthritis. I find this knee brace hugs the knee very well, is easy to put on and gives good support for walking and playing sports like table tennis. The bracing is on the inside of the brace and is very well made. The inner lining next to the skin is of very good quality material and not directly neoprene so the knee does not sweat too much. I got one with cross straps for extra hold and it works very well also. To prevent the cross straps from getting lost, I leave the cross straps attached to the brace when not wearing it. My very first McDavid brace and I am loving it.

Maybe not the best for general support.

I ordered this knee brace because I have pain in my right knee from not wearing orthesis in my shoes. I feel the pain mostly at work because I stay up on my feet all day. Maybe this brace was not the best to buy for what I needed. Inside the strap itself there are little cushions that I assume are for better support but they just end up cutting through my skin after wearing it for an hour. I took them off completely at some point and I like it better this way. I would also wear it when I go running but it would fall off, and if it tighten it enough for it to stay in place it would cut my blood circulation. It also fold where the knee bends as i run and always have to unfold it and put it back in place. I wanted to love it so much but I realize that it might have not been a good investment for me.

Moveable inserts around patella not effective

Overall this brace doesn't really seem like it would be effective for much more thsn strapping and compression. Sizing is on the small side - I was at upper end of suggested size range for SM and it was difficult to strap up. Even if you are in the middle of the indicated size range you may want to size up. Movable foam inserts for supporting patella are pretty thick - you might need to factor them in your choice of size. Don't know how useful they are...they were better when positioned on either side of the knee rather than above and below, but I need tendon compression below patella and I didn't find it comfortable. For strapping alone it's OK, better than a sleeve, but I couldn't use it for running. Returned.

Ouch

I followed the instructions to help my kneecap track better because I have had issues with this in the past. And following the taping advice with K tap from my physio to figure out which side needed help. I was doing a lot of squats past parallel (5x5 strength program) and was trying to be proactive about my knee by buying this brace. Holy crap, I trained twice with this knee brace on and my knee was messed up. I stopped using it and let my knee rest a bit. Now I have no pain and I trained again a few times without the brace and no pain. Doesn't work for me, It's a good quality brace but I think it's more for running or cardio activities, and not for lifting.

Excellent product

I had bought another mcDavid product and was really happy with it so when the time came to purchase something a little lighter and smaller I turned to McDavid again. I was not disappointed with this product either and would buy both products again if needed. Light weight easy to apply and very durable.
