Nice and toasty!
These socks definitely keep my feet warm and I like their design of them. I feel they could use a little more arch support though. They were also a little tight around the tops at first but they stretched out a bit with wear and were more comfortable. They are hiking boot approved and kept my feet warm and dry over a few snowy hikes.

Toes are nice and toasty
These socks are nice and thick! They do seem to pill a little bit which is disappointing. But overall they're very nice.

soft, could use more structured support
Pretty good general-purpose hiking socks, but they lack the structured support I expected. There's a pretty minimal support band around the arch only. The fit is on the loose / casual side, so I'd label these more as around-the-house or around-town socks, rather than the ones I'll pick for an actual hike. Good medium-light blended technical fabric. It looks fine (no pilling) after its first wash cycle. Other thoughts: Good price per pair. I recommend line-drying all socks made of technical or wool fabrics. Not a great hiking sock, but a nice outdoors / cool-weather sock, especially at this price.

WOW. These are incredible
Most comfortable socks I've ever worn. They fit absolutely perfectly. They stay up but are not tight on the calves. They are warm and soft and look great. Just absolutely amazing. If it helps, I'm a men's size 8-8.5.

Too loose no compression, supper loose
Too loose no compression, supper loose. Very stretchy and slides around your feet with or with out shoes. Pass if you want tighter fitting socks (have both women’s and men’s sizes) and they didn’t work for both of us.

The Perfect Winter Sock for Hiking, Walking, Or Just Lounging Around the House In
Summary: I went with these primarily because they are a Merrell product and Merrell tends to be a pretty well known brand when it comes to outdoor activities. I've owned a few pairs of Merrell hiking shoes and they've never disappointed me. I sort of feel like these socks are branded Merrell but quality tested under a 3rd party because honestly, they hardly feel any different than wearing your average Wal Mart tube socks made by Fruit of the Loom. They may look nice and have a pretty cool design but they are extremely thin and even after having felt around the entire sock I could not tell any difference between the heel, toe, or anywhere else for that matter.....the sock felt the same all around. Maybe there's some special material in this sock that does it justice when it comes to cold weather but I highly doubt it. They aren't particularly soft either. I've gotten a couple of generic Chinese brand hiking socks on here that feel way better and are much thicker when in comparison. I have to admit I haven't actually worn these outside in super cold temps yet but I'm pretty certain they are not going to provide the warmth I'm looking for given how thin and average they are. So looks like I'm going to have to go with another set of Chinese branded hiking socks. Not really worth the $17-$20 cost for a 4 pairs of these. Design: 6/10 Functionality: 5/10 Durability: 7/10 Value: 5/10 Update: I prematurely judged these socks. As I have used these now through a full winter I am happy to say they are pretty damn awesome. Not only are they warm and of high quality, even after multiple washes they hold their form quite well. I initially thought they were too thin but in reality although they are thinner, they still provide a lot of warmth. The are also extremely easy to slip on and off. I'm upping my review from 3 stars to 5 stars because honestly, after a few months of use I can't seem to find any faults with these socks.

Cowboy Boot Approved!
I waited a few weeks for these socks to be delivered but I didn't mind the wait at all... Just be forewarned that this might happen to you. I'm not sure whether this was a delay with the seller or with ups. That said, let's jump into it. I don't hike... The best way to get my heart racing is dancing and I always wear boots. I hate that my gold toe socks, although comfortable, slide down WHILE dancing. It's a frustrating problem. I gave these socks a test drive Saturday night and I've since worn the socks from this pack of Merrell because holy Cthulhu, they are comfortable. They did NOT slide once in my Frye booties. It was just icing on the cake that they were thick and kept my feet nice and warm. I can see why these are labeled as "hiking" socks and although that's not the purpose I had when I purchased them, I can tell you right now they feel thick enough to withstand the pressure on the base of the feet from hiking or trail running. I don't do either but I am a fitness instructor and I put my socks through war. I can tell quality socks from socks that aren't going to make it. These are excellent. And if you need socks that won't slide down inside of your boots while you're on the dance floor trying to get your groove on, these are superb.
