Attractive, high quality, and great value

I received a set of this dinnerware as a gift from my mother when I moved cross country a few years ago and didn't want to ship my mishmash, goodwill-purchased set of dishes I had acquired in my young adult life. The plates and cups have held up remarkably well since. I really like the set: the plates cups and bowls are attractive without being pretentious or frilly - a quality admirable to a young man who sometimes likes to entertain. The plates and cups are quite durable, but my bowls have suffered from my particular habits. They have each accumulated chips and cracks from me preparing my breakfast; when I scoop plain yogurt into these bowls, I like to flick off the excess yogurt on my spoon by gently tapping it against the edge of the bowl before scooping out a spoon full of honey. Over the many years of doing this, most of my bowls have suffered at least some damage. After entertaining guests recently, I was embarrassed by the state of my bowls and decided to buy a new set. I was pleasantly surprised at how affordable an entire dinnerware set was, so I bought a full set instead of just buying the bowls. I highly recommend the purchase. Though i took off a star for durability and sturdiness, I think that probably has more to do with my unique habits than the quality of the bowls.

Beautiful and elegant!

The decor of my kitchen is French countryside, these dishes are perfect. They are beautiful and elegant. You can use them for every day dining or special occasions! Just love these.

Amazon Comes thru Again!

This is my third set of French Countryside in 40 years. I have always loved the pattern and it holds up beautifully. Although it is no longer produced in Japan, the quality remains high.. They arrived extremely well packaged and padded, though the weight caused several of the bread plates to arrive broken. BUT - be careful from whom you purchase Mikasa. When I first checked, Amazon was out of this pattern so I went to the Mikasa website and ordered the place settings and a set of soup bowls. The bowls were made in Malaysia and contained no flaws. The place settings were made in China and EVERYONE of them had a flaw! Some were minor but many were such that I would not even classify the dishes as seconds: variations in color, black marks beneath the white glaze, huge drips in the underglaze, uneven patterns. They were completely useless to me. In order for Mikasa to pay for the return shipping of such shoddy merchandise, I had to send them photographs of each and every piece for their approval! On top of that, their customer service was horrible and the emails from them treated me like an imposition. The packing boxes for so incredibly damaged that it took THREE rolls of tape to make them sturdy enough for the post office to accept them. I learned my lesson and will only buy any future dishes from Amazon. As mentioned above, there were several dishes that were broken but the return and refund were very easy with their provided shipping labels. And no questions asked, much less a third degree.

Dinnerware

I have had mikasa dishwater for over 16 years. I bought this set to add to them. I now have enough to serve 12 people. I love these dishes. Very sturdy and nice looking.

Beautiful set of dishes.

These dishes are very well made. I love the simplicity of them but they can be dressed up for special occasions. The bowls are quite large and the mugs are too. I love them! The value of these depends on what Amazon feels on any given day. I bought these for $60.00 for a set of four. I have seen them as high as $240.00 on Amazon.

Lovely dishes but not chip proof!

I love the dishes! The solid white color and simple design make for lovely table settings to complement foods for any occasion. Sadly, I chipped one of the bowls the day after I purchased the set. This was disappointing because I thought they were chip resistent.

Broken bowls in shipment

Bowls arrived broken. Set matched older dishes perfectly. Love the size of bowls, but will be asking for replacements.

Nice dinnerware but not exactly as I hoped

Very nice set but the colour is almost a putty white - not ivory or off white as I had hoped. The difference between the rim and the centre of the bowl seems more than I am use to. It appears much deeper than average. Hasn't been a problem in terms of eating but it looks at little different than other sets I have had. I'm keeping them, and will probably order a 2nd set.

Just what I was looking for!

This is a heavy durable, off white dish set. Plates are deeper then most and the bowls are huge. We’ve used them lots for everyday but look fabulous on our Thanksgiving table.

Great dishes

I have had these dishes for almost 20 years and only now has some of the dishes began to scratch because of the dishwasher. I do not use them as every day dishes but rather for special occasions

I love the Mikasa French Countryside dinnerware. I have had my 8 place setting for over 20 years but a few had broken, so I ordered service for 4 to add to my complete collection.
