Wanted To Like It
After 20 odd years my plastic strainer finally cracked, so I thought I’d do the responsible thing and get a good stainless one for life. But there are two things about this one that just don’t work for me: First off (it’s not visible in the photos) but the handle is just tooooo long. That’s not a bad thing by itself, but it throws the balance of the strainer off so much that the slightest touch knocks the strainer over on its side. You pretty much have to put things in towards the ‘far’ side first to keeping it from tipping. But the deal breaker for me are the strainer holes, which act more like a grater & tend to grab my berries while cleaning, leaving a lot of residue behind. Where the plastic strainer only needed a quick “swish” of water to clean daily & a once-a-week run through the dish washer, this one needs a Scotch-brite scrub after every use. This strainer may be perfect for someone sifting grains or flours, but the holes are too coarse if you only need it to rinse & drain fresh fruit.

Just the right size holes!
Love this strainer. I use it to strain my kefir grains, they don’t fall through the holes!

I like this item a lot. Very sturdy and cleans well.
I like it way better than the equivalent wire strainers. Looks better and has held up very well.

The great colander of Oggi
As much as I would love to make a review about how this colander was the great weapon of Lord Oggi, or something like that. The fact is, they actually modified and changed the design for the customer (unless I got the only one). For that, I would like to make a more serious review. I purchased the 6.5 a while back and it was great. After about 2.5 years, just like many others have mentioned, the handle began to break. After another 6 months it finally came off (still works great to let things drain in the sink, and no more handle to get in the way of storage!) However, I thought it was due time to get a replacement. So, I ordered another 6.5; because I liked the previous one so much, even with a weak handle. To my surprise when I received the new one, they have now reinforced the handle with a plate and multiple spot welds. But, to do this they needed to get the material from another area of the colander (sarcasm), so its diameter shrunk 1/2 inch from previous model. It's now 6.5" from outside of the rim, where the prior model was ~6.5" inside the rim. But I'm loving this size even more, very convenient for 2 person servings. Will definitely update to 5 star if the new handle truely holds up over time.

Wanted to replace my wire mesh strainer
I've been using a large perforated stainless steel colander for years now and it's been awesome. But my smaller strainer has been a cheap wire mesh one with a flimsy plastic frame and I was ready for an upgrade. Instead of just getting another mesh strainer with a steel frame, I went looking for a perforated stainless steel version and found these. I purchased the 6.5" size, looking for something that would fit inside my medium to large saucepans. Thoughts: - Instead of being a completely rounded bowl shape, it is flattened on the bottom. Wasn't expecting this but it hasn't caused any drainage issues. - Nice "feet" on the bottom to allow it to free-stand like a colander. - The pieces where the handle and helper handle are welded to the frame creates some extra outer diameter, which may or may not affect how well it fits inside a saucepan (depending on your saucepan inner diameter). - The rubber pieces covering the handle are a bit chintzy. If they don't last, though, just a bare metal handle might actually be more attractive. - As with my larger perforated SS colander, cleaning is much easier than a wire mesh strainer. - No problems with the holes being too big or too small. Regarding the issue reported in some other reviews about the welds on the handle failing and it coming off, so far mine has held up. If that changes, I'll be sure to update this review. But it may be possible those experiencing that problem may be using larger sizes and heavier loads in them; this small 6.5" size seems to be able to handle the weight its capacity allows. Overall I've been satisfied.

Ideal shape, exactly what we were looking for!
Loved it while it was in one piece!! It has the foot, one long handle, and perfect size to rest on top of our large pot, make a large batch, etc. Buuut after a year (i think) of near daily use, the handle broke off lol. We did use it to strain large quantities of noodles and pasta, so maybe it gave under the weight. But it was great while it lasted! Hope there's more styles like this. The long handle is our go-to. Update: the 10 inch was getting a little pricey, so we bought a 9.5 inch instead. Well.... It's not 9.5 inch like the title/long description says, but it's an 8 inch collander as product dimensions & label states. No matter how you measure it, its not 9.5 inch lol. That has been returned, and we just got the 10 inch instead. Hope this one will last longer than the last one!

Sometimes slips on the short side
This does it’s main job of straining well. We like using metal instead of plastic and the holes are nice and small. We purchased this because we like elevated straining - so have it hanging over our sink held by the handle and the jut on the front end. However, the front extension a bit short and does not a have a gripping mechanism so it falls easily.
