Heavy but well made!
I was a little disappointed to see that within an hour of filling this feeder, it was heavy enough to pull four screws out of the arm that was holding it to a tree. It smashed to the ground and spilled the bird feed, but although it was dented, it was in pretty good shape for falling 8 feet. As long as you have a secure method of holding it up, this is well-built, and should survive a fall. Happy with it overall.

Lovely feeder. Squirrels can get into this feeder so a twist tie is needed for security.
I had one of these before and the squirrels outsmarted us all Now a simple twist tie secures to lid from the feeder/

Build a feeder, they will come!
The media could not be loaded. Tried a few feeders before this one and all of sudden I get bunches of birds! This one really loved by the finches probably more so than those skinny tubes and socks. Haven't got sunflower seeds for the other half yet, but all in one feeder limits wastes of having to fill up one big feeder. I even filled up half wild seed mix and upper half with nyjer seed mix. Excellent product.

"Just a bird feeder" but surprisingly well made *2 yr update
The polar bear mentioned below did not fair as well, but this mushroom one has done very well for us. We use it year-round, and it's not protected at all. No rust and the birdies still enjoy dining on it. ----------------------------- I got one of these (the polar bear) through the Vine program, and I liked it so much I bought this one on my personal account. The all-mesh design is quite thoughtful, allowing more than one bird to feed at a time. On this particular shape, I wanted the larger lid to protect the seeds a bit more, so I can put it out on the back deck where there is no protection from elements. It's not as large as the polar bear, but it's still a respectable capacity (and on the deck will make it easier for me to reach to refill, in our case). - Ran my hands over the mesh and didn't find a single snag. - It's flat bottomed so can sit on something if you prefer not to hang it. - The hanger is a thin steel cable that feels coated in plastic, secured to the lid by a simple bolt. - The lid itself secures with a simple 3-prong twist type thing - get the prongs in the slats for it and twist. It's kind of surprising to me to be so impressed by "just" a bird feeder. I certainly didn't expect to be. But I just am, these are that neat.

Sturdy
Much sturdier and heavier than I expected. Love that!

Stop sparrows from eating all of the seed.
Was skeptical at first since the tray doesn't leave much space. But my finches and Cardinals love it. My other feeders have more space and fills up with sparrows who eat much faster. I take down in rain since the seed would get wet, but that's when I wash it. I clean my feeders more often than most people. I'm actually going to buy another since anytime I find something I like, it's discontinued. Very sturdy feeder.

Bought To Attract Multiple Birds, However…
We have four seed feeders in our yard and I bought this one since it provided ability to fill with different food for different birds. We put sunflower seeds in the half with the wider mesh screen and filled the smaller mesh side with seed for Orioles. Birds flocked to the new feeder and the sunflower seeds required refilling every other day due to so many birds feeding. Then it rained. Because the feeder is constructed with open screening and no interior plastic lining, the side of the feeder with the Oriole food turned into a moldy mess of wet, soggy seed that hardened into a brick. I had to use a screw driver to chisel away at the bad seed to break it up in chunks to empty the feeder. I thoroughly cleaned it, but in the end decided any bird food put in this feeder would be exposed to potential molding from future rains. Will stick with the tubular, plastic lined feeders the birds still love.

sturdy and easy to fill
I love the dual mesh feeder! It is easy to fill and clean. I put safflower seed on one side and finch food (combination of niger seed and sunflower chips) on the other side. The birds love it! Even though the feeder is quite large, I need to refill it every couple of days. I highly recommend!!

Perfect feeder for Canadian urban backyards
The media could not be loaded. Bird feeders don’t get meaner and leaner than this one. Built like a “tank” to take on the harsh wilderness of Canadian urban backyards. Decided to share a video after a couple of months of using this; already gone through more than 100 pounds of bird seeds. Bird feeding in Ontario can become an expensive addiction. Key is to allow for your wild ecosystem to do its discovery – hang it out in the same location for about a week, refill as it empties slowly. Use the cheaper 100% sunflower seed (don’t even need black oil premium here), don’t get the corn “filler mix” as most birds here just “throw them out”. Squirrels are the most enterprising and entertaining, you’d swear they have wings after a little while. Despite being “squirrel proof” in concept, this feeder is no match for Ontarian veteran squirrels. Best to settle “out of feeder” and feed them their morning levies some other ways. Blue Jays, red cardinals, finches, robins galore; with an occasional beautiful skunk, raccoon, and “Uncle Vinny Squirrel” thrown in. This is not a zoo or aviary, but (y)our backyards.

Not very practical
Lovely to look at, but most of the peanuts remain uneaten as the birds can't get to them - need to figure out a way of fixing a cone in the centre to keep the peanuts around the edges, near the mesh where the birds can get at them.

I've Only Given Four Stars Because......
This was bought as I assumed that it was weatherproof because of the top but I was disappointed to find the wire going through the top, leaving a hole which lets the rain in. We fixed this with a glue gun so only four stars as the manufacturers should have done that.

Strong & Attractive.
The birds love it, what better proof can one have that it does the job. It's well made, attractive quaint design, and I highly recommend it for use on a squirrel proof pole (greased pole).
