Sturdy and well built

My dog likes it. She is unable to ride in the car w/o going totally bonkers and becoming a safety hazard. She gets that excited. Don't want to drug her @ all. Only problem is that she now wants to ride in the car a lot and get longer, more involved walks. I'd like to do this, but life gets in the way? Product pretty good. Like it.

Almost just what I was looking for

I have a Vari-Kennel cat carrier that I've had and used for yeeears. It's roomy and sturdy for a large cat and it's still in use to this day. We recently adopted some kittens and the hunt for another great carrier like that one was on. This time I wanted one that I could open from the top. I spent days searching for just such a thing and was highly surprised that there weren't very many like that to choose from. This one popped up during one of my searches and it seemed like what I was looking for. I ordered the 24 inch carrier and it should've been pretty close in size to my old one but it turned out to be smaller. It's narrower on the inside and not as tall so it's not as roomy for a large kitty like my old one is. Also, the plastic is not as thick and sturdy as my old one. They evidently don't make 'em like they use to. Having said that, it's working fine for trips to the vet and when not in service for that, I prop the door open (it won't stay open by itself) and the kittens love to sleep in it. It's also nice to be able to check on them at a glance from the top. That top opening does make it easier to get them out of the carrier at the vet's too. I received all of the parts (plus a few extra screws left over) and I didn't have any trouble putting it together. There are two holes top-side of where the front gate goes. Ignore those. I don't know what those are for. The gate actually gets inserted under the protruding piece of plastic on top. You can either have it swing from the left or from the right - your choice. If you have a super large kitty - like a Maine Coon, I don't think that kitty would be very comfortable in this carrier but for kittens and adult kitties 10 - 15 pounds or so, I think will be OK. Time will tell if it lasts as long as my "old faithful" carrier has.

Great quality!!!

Great quality! It is a reasonably sturdy plastic, and is designed very well. It’s not going to bust open or fall apart. The handle feels strong and sturdy for carrying. I also love the addition of the top entry hatch. It also allows my pet to get some airflow and also see their surroundings. It is very spacious as well. Plenty of room for my pet to stretch and not feel cramped.

Good Value

I foster kittens and have two full grown cats of my own. This is the perfect size for transporting multiple kittens or one large cat. Very sturdy and top opening very helpful for taking cats in and out. The only negative is that you can't fold it down for storage like the soft-sided carriers. Some cats even like to "hang out" in it if I leave the door open (note: door does not stay open on it's own--need to prop open).

19” is too small and 24” too big

For the price, it is good enough. Compared to my other crate, it is not as good in many ways. I wanted one that is top load like my other crate - for ease of loading the dog. I also think most dogs are less stressed in the crate when he can see you from every angle. I bought this for my Yorkie puppy to sleep into the night in my bedroom. Otherwise, he is in a playpen with potty pad during the day. Yes, he is potty training currently. I also plan on using this in the car for his trips to the Vet and groomer visits. I have another crate that was my Shih Tzu’s. It’s too big for my Yorkie puppy to sleep into at night. There was too much space and he pees on the other half of the crate at night. I wish he’d wake me or perhaps I should wake up in the middle of the night to let him potty. ???? So, I bought the 19” and returned because my 5 lb puppy cannot turn around or sit up straight and this is even with no added bed in it yet. The 24” is too big for what I need but is slightly smaller than my existing crate at home. To make it work for now, I placed an oversized, 24” bolster bed to make the space slimmer and shorter. I think I need a size that is in between the 19” and 24” - like a 21”. However, once my pup is potty trained, bigger crate is ok and I will replace the bed with correct 18” bolster bed for it. My Yorkie pup will be a bigger than the standard 7 lb Yorkies but even once he is full grown at about 10 lbs, I don’t think he will outgrow this crate. Just for kicks, I tried this crate for my 14 lb Shih Tzu. She can’t sit up on this one. Limited top load crate options available in the market and I thought this is the best looking and the next best thing for what I need. The plastic parts are stiff enough but not as thick to my liking compared to my other crate. The metal screws should make this crate somewhat sturdier. My Yorkie is halfway through the teething phase. I’m hoping the metal doors are strong. I also hope that the plastic handle holds. It would have been nice if there’s option to put casters and strap to attach to the crate to carry on your shoulder. Update: I just replaced the bolster bed to 18” so it won’t get wet from the water bowl I just attached to the front door of the crate.

AMAZING CARRIER!

This is an amazing carrier. So easy to put together! It didn’t come damaged and no scratches. Great to buy! I also love the color it’s so mutual and goes with everything. My cats love it and so do I. Highly recommend!

GOOD BUT ...

The carrier seems well made. However the plastic reminded me of a washing basket. It's two washing basket halves! Well made and finished the holes are finished in such a way as to be stronger than the washing basket but I had wrongly thought it would be something more rigid. The fasteners are good, and there were spares and they are metal bolts with steel nuts wrapped into a moulded outer part, so finger assembly. When assembled is reasonably robust. The BUT is on the size. Again perhaps wrongly I had thought 24inch for small dogs like pomeranians and toy poodles. I have square wiremesh carriers for cats which are 15 inches deep. These were almost large enough but I had one tall male pomeranian who was not happy as his head was rubbing the top of his carrier. This carrier is an inch lower at only 14 inches and that's with no bedding in. I will keep as I can use for regular size cats etc.. but I just think this carrier is too small for small dogs unless they are right small. i.e. 14 inches at the head standing up. No bigger. Also both wire doors rattled when shut. I put some draft type excluding foam strip on each doorway. This has made each door quiet when shut which is a great improvement. In summary it's a fine carrier but not the most diverse as it is quite small, a little bit bigger would have been a lot more useful especially in the height department. Hopefully this information will be of some use to someone thinking of this as their carrier.

Nice, roomy carrier with very secure door and top load hatch

This is an American built carrier, at the time of writing, the number one best selling pet carrier on the Amazon USA site. Since it doesn't seem that wildly available in the UK I was delighted that Amazon UK stocked it. Do take a look at the couple of thousand Amazon USA reviews before making up your mind up about this carrier. My history: The door hinge broke on my old 22" cat carrier and for reasons of storage space I tried to downsize to the Amazon Basics 19" carrier, in theory only 3" smaller, but which proved to be far too small for an adult cat. So back in the market for something larger, I hunted around till I found this one. It's a roomy transporter, but not heavy in my opinion, so large you could probably fit two friendly cats together in this! I've come to the conclusion that cat carriers are either too small for comfort or unnecessarily large for the average moggie... Overall this Petmate carrier has a good quality feel to it, the plastic seems rugged enough and I like that the top and bottom fit together with 9 screws + bolts (I was provided with plenty of spares). You can certainly take the top and bottom apart for storage, but it would be a faff in my opinion, but the option is there. The front door and in particular the upper hatch feel well constructed, and I see it as a positive that the locking mechanism for each require two fingers to open as you are required to squeeze a pair of dual sprung handles together to unlock. For this reason there is little chance of either opening accidentally, say if the carrier was accidentally dropped. In summary: a roomy, well built carrier with secure locks. Recommended.

The best cat carrier I have seen

My 9 month old kitten managed to chew his way out of his first carrier which was a fabric/mesh bag style. So I decided to look for something more sturdy. I did lots of research and this one seemed to have the best reviews. I'm really pleased I spent a bit more. He does not like to be in the car at all but was a little more content in this one than his previous one. The fastenings seem strong enough. I doubt he'll be able to open it, despite his determination! The top opening is useful to be able to get him out more easily when at the vets (he can't hide at that back!). He is also a very big cat (bigger than some adult cats already) so the large size of this one was appealing - although storing it is more difficult! Only used a couple of times but so far so good!

delivery was amazing got early so great very easy to put together and looks good quality haven't able use yet but it seems good quality and a good size I needed it for my rabbit rufus I know it is meant to be for dogs but my baby rufus is a big rabbit and the top opening is great cause he likes to be picked up from under his belly if I tried to pull him though the front he would not come willing and it would stress him out I think he got dropped as a baby and he is strong so the top opening is perfect for me so I think it is worth the money cause it looks like it will last and is big enough for him so 5 stars I love it very happy would buy again a great buy happy I brought it came in perfect condition

Sturdy, roomy and secure fastenings

Have just bought two of these for transporting my two cats on a long journey. Did a lot of research, never realised how many versions there were; decided on these and I must say .. I am impressed. Hope my furry friends are too!! They are quite roomy, sturdy with good strong doors. No plastic catches that can get loose or opened. Screwing the base to the top made it, in my view, nice and secure too.
