Effective but noisy

My husband purchased this for the fish tank, which we now have after our kids brought home two fish from bible school. Full disclosure, I wanted to release the feeder fish in a lake. I was outnumbered and now the family has added more fish friends and my thoughtful mother-in-law upgraded us to a real tank. While this does work, it's loud. To be fair, I still want to release all these fish in a lake. But, really, the buzzing noise from this drives me crazy. Maybe it's normal? My husband claims the fish are much happier with it. So, I'm not a fan, but the fish apparently are.

Air pump for small home aquarium

2 fish tanks, 5 gal, 10 gal: small air stone in each. They are quiet and provide strong streams of bubbles on small airstones.

quiet at first

Was good for the first bit but it got increasingly more loud as time went on..at first it was practically silent and I will give it that. I have this in my room so I been trying to find a silent one for a bit. Definitely one of the more quite ones I have purchased but it does get louder with time. Great output and not a bad price.

Wish you could adjust the air flow

Bought the 2-10 gallon option for my 10 gallon tank and this ended up creating a huge wave at the top of my tank because the bubbles were coming out so intensely. I then had to buy an Air Control Valve (Fluval brand) which only costed me about $1.60 thru Amazon and now the bubbles have definitely become more manageable. Other than that, there is no sound at all coming from it and my fishies are happy.

Almost Returned. Glad I Didn’t.

The media could not be loaded. Purchased this before my air filter arrived and tried it out and thought it was too loud. Set up a return for it, went to UPS Store, and thankfully took the wrong box. By the time I got back my air filter arrived and my replacement air pump had not. So I set this up again and it worked perfectly and best of all - quietly. My Betty tank sit s right under our TV so it has to be quiet. I am very pleased with this little pump.

underpowered

This is supposed to be good for 2-10 gallon. Might be ok for 2 but definitely under powered for a 10 gallon.

Definitely not "virtually silent".

This was a great quality air pump but I bought this to convert my tank's current filter over to a sponge filter. I thought the sponge filter would be roughly the same or quieter save for the bubbles it introduces. The pump gives off a constant, loud and annoying hum. It may not be that bad, but my tank is in an otherwise quiet room about 4 feet from the main sitting area. It is much more noticeable than the old filter. I'm giving 4 stars because I didn't really know what to expect or what I was getting myself in to.

Quieter than the 10 gallon version

Its quieter than my previous 10 gallon version by the same brand, good airflow although I was expecting a four fold increase over the 10 gallon, it seems to be about 50% more air. But for my 20 gallon that is fine, I was worried it would be too much. But for someone with an actual 40 gallon this would be absolutely insufficient, just get a 100 gallon or another brand if not available in that size. It says 'up to 40 gallon', so it seems to work for sizes well below that. I am very happy, it is very quiet, the bubbles are louder than any operating hum. Just place it away from hollow surfaces and walls and this way the sound will not resonate and sound loud. I placed mine on a flat decorative rock near the tank on the floor, and not on any table top. This is how to properly manage resonant sound. Great purchase.

I can finally sleep in my bedroom again!!!

Quiet enough for me to get to sleep. Yes, it works absolutely as recommended but geeze louize I just wanted something that was quiet enough to let me sleep in my bedroom since my tanks are all in there with me...I have 5 tanks in my room (its a big room) and have tried many different pumps over the years. I keep coming back to this pump because it is the quietest one without breaking my bank. I have 3 pumps all going at the same time and it is quiet so I can finally sleep in my own bed again. I know you can't see me but I'm dancing a jig right now!!!! Worth every penny. So happy:)

Very loud! Owned for a little over a month and can’t use anymore

Thought this air pump would be great for my tank but the pump makes a loud vibration/rattle noise. The only way to stop the noise is to lightly press the top together. My fish tank is in our living room and when this pump is on we can’t carry a normal conversation. Return window closed 14 days ago, now I’m stuck with this pump.

poor output

Bought this pump, oversized for 55 gallon tank cause my son wants to upgrade to bigger aquarium. Hooked it up to 2 12" air stones and a small air stone, only got about 3 inches of bubbles from each of the 12"ers, very disappointed and returned it.

Far from quiet flow

Incredibly noisy airpump, I actually ended up returning mine. Despite it being on its own stand, having tried multiple different materials to set it on to limit noise levels you could still hear it from the next floor of the house... Maybe I got a defective unit but mine was far from quiet flow
