I purchased this pump in 2012. It is finally on it's last legs (crack near diaphragm), but it has performed VERY well with constant use. I attempted to replace it with the Terta "Whisper" Series (40 & 60, lots of BAD reviews here) and after MULTIPLE returns and reattempts NONE were as remotely quiet as this Penn Plex. I agree with a few other reviewers, it's just good quality and no pump is completely quiet. I've found at times I simply needed to move it and it quieted down. Another suggestion, is placing it on a computer mouse pad. In the end, I replaced this pump with the same one so I'm giving it 5 Stars!

Not that quiet

I must have purchased this at Petco as I searched my orders and could not find it. However the pump I replaced it with, I did buy from Amazon. I have a 20 gallon long aquarium. I hooked up this Penn-Plax Silent-Air X2 air pump to handle two air stones. It did the job but was noisy. I replaced it with a Marina 75 air pump(see my Amazon review) and discovered that it was about 33% quieter while doing the same job.

long lasting air pump

I have this air pump for 13 years and it still works I got it at a petland discounts most reliable air pump I have ever own in my 21 years of fish keeping and this air pump that is for sale on this site looks exzackly the same and is the as my 13 year old Penn place silent x2 this is the longest lasting air pump that I know of well worth the money some Penn place stuff is not the quilty as it use to be but I think this is one of those things that has stayed the same and will last for years to come

Quiet

Have had this pump for a year, still works great. It's not absolutely silent, but it is still very quiet compared to other pumps. I had it on a shelf above my tank, several times knocked it off, doesn't phase it, still worked as well as the day I got it. Impressed enough I am buying the same brand pump for my new 60 gallon tank that is replacing my 20.
