I purchased this about a year and a half ago but finally I am at my last straw. When I first opened the box, I saw a green color through the packaging and was slightly surprised. Now, the banana costume pictured online was yellow, but I'm no dummy and I know they wouldn't send me a fully ripe banana costume - that would only give me a short time to get some use out of it! But I hadn't expected such a stiff, bright green banana costume. I ordered it in March, so it actually turned out to be a great St. Patty's day outfit, but I was worried about what was next. As winter came and passed, I was shocked to see that the banana costume was still green! Not wanting to be the guy that immediately runs to the internet to whine, I tried some troubleshooting options. First, I watered it for a month, under the assumption that it might not have been fully developed when I received it. Next, I gave it a month out in the sun, trying to recreate it's original habitat during the warmer months. I searched online for clues, scouring the internet for what others have done if they weren't able to get their banana costume to ripen. I couldn't find anyone with the same issue I was having, but I did try a few of the tricks I unearthed for regular bananas. After putting the banana costume in a giant brown paper bag, the oven, and even trying to jam it into a microwave, IT WAS STILL GREEN! After all of this (1+ years), I was finally ready to give up. I've come to the conclusion that my banana costume will never be yellow, and I am okay with that. The costume is comfortable, fits well, and has gotten me many compliments. Overall, I am satisfied with the product but couldn't give it that fifth star due to the green color that persists to this day. But despite that, it's been a great product. I even ended up buying a matching gorilla costume (side note, it came way smaller than the product description, so I have been giving it water and food on a daily basis - fingers crossed that works!).
