Impressive warranty service, unlike other manufacturers...

I replaced a 40+ year old deep well pump with this, and hope like heck that this one lasts as long (at which point it will truly earn it's 5 star review ;) ). This unit came with good instruction, a NEW CONTROL BOX (important because the capacitor/relay can cause problems in the motor winding - no point in buying a new $4-500+ pump and reusing the same control box *rolling eyes*- though technically doable), and underwater heat shrink wiring pack. In short, the pump came with all the *necessary* components, went in well (get it? ;-) ), functions perfectly, and shows all signs of lasting as long as the original. There are a couple of things that you may want to get, how much you'll need depends upon your installtion: 1) Rope. - With the black polyethylene piping which is currently in use (for the water), it is a requirement to use some 1/4"+ polypropylene rope to support/hold/retrieve the pump if there is a break in the pipe. http://www.amazon.com/Attwood-Braided-Polypropylene-General-Purpose/dp/B002QVSPV2/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1357310104&sr=1-1&keywords=polypropylene+rope 2) Wire - Also, not something that comes w/ the pump, but since your deep well pump is going to be installed hundreds of feet down underwater, 'standard' outdoor (UWB) wire is NOT okay. underwater pump wire is NOT something you can often find at home depot (though it probably depends on the region), so if you can reuse the wiring, good. If not: http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Cable-423380530-Underwater-500-Foot/dp/B008LTKSA4/ref=sr_1_2?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1357311287&sr=1-2&keywords=underwater+pump+cable (or something similar) 3) Pipe - 1" / 1 1/4" black polyethylene pipe (available by the 100' roll) is the current industry standard, and is flexible and easy enough to use that you don't need a truck, a rig, or a well 'A' frame to install or remove it (something rounded, and a car to pull/drop oughta do). Some fittings and clamps and you are good to go: (can't find it at Amazon, luckily Home Depot typically carries it in stock.) While my pump was a royal PITA to replace, it was mainly because my pump was old enough to be installed onto the end of ~150' of welded 1 1/4" galvanized steel piping. Yeah. It sucked for a DIYer. An A-frame w/ an engine hoist, a pair of bench vises (removed from the bench ;-) ), an angle grinder (to cut off ~20' sections of pipe), and several hours of backbreaking labor later, I was ready to quit for the night... luckily the installation (on black poly) was vastly easier! So, it gets five stars for coming with *most* everything needed, good instructions, and working well! Follow up: After 35 1/2 months, my pump failed. While this might be considered a bad thing, it left me even more impressed. Pulling up the pump (at the end of the PE pipe) was straightforward, and simple. Diagnosing the failure was easy (because it blew up two new capacitors, and tested with an obvious dead short internally), and Red Lion **stood behind their 3 yr warranty 2 weeks before it ended **. I just got the replacement pump today. All I had to do was peel off the serialized label, attach it to the email correspondence about the failure, and mail it off to them. They shipped back a replacement pump and I was good to go. Yeah the week turn around time was inconvenient, but completely understandable. Now to pull back out the PITA cheap Hallmark pump I dropped down there... sigh, maybe it can wait till that guy fails ;) .

Good quality pump...3 year factory warranty

Pump appears to be constructed of high quality materials and includes an attachment point to connect a rope to ensure the pump doesn't come loose and fall into the well. The 1 HP unit came with a remote start assist kit that contains a potential relay, start capacitor and requires a 4 wire hook up. The installation instructions provided make installation and wiring a breeze. Many pumps have these components built into the pump and if they fail as in my case, the pump has to be removed from the well and replaced. Then you have to be wary and ensure you get a water tight seal when making the repair or it will smoke instantly when power is applied. The remote start kit allows for future repairing or replacing these components without removing the pump from the well...a great benefit since the components can be damaged by lightning, power surges or drops. After 3 weeks of operation, the pump is working within factory specifications and the large number of pump stages moves the water quite efficiently. This unit is a great value for the money, even though the price was dropped $80 since I ordered mine 3 weeks ago. I still came out saving close to $200 by ordering it instead of paying wholesale contractors price at the local plumbing warehouse. Plus it carries an additional 2 year warranty over the other top brand names offered locally.

Works Great

Most important thing is, if you have some skills, you can install this pump yourself, and you don't have to pay 3 to 4 thousand dollars. Is very easy to install, the pump comes with a check valve installed on the pump head, if the piping and electric wires look good no need to replace them.

Ordered the 3/4 HP. Received the 1 1/2 HP! THANKS!

I ordered the 3/4 HP Red Lion Pump and controller, but the pump arrived without a controller. Called Customer Service about the missing controller. Received a replacement controller for a 3/4 HP Pump. Realized there was actually a mismatch. Just looked at my original order and I had ordered a 3/4 HP Pump and Controller, but received a 1 1/2 HP Pump and no controller. Thanks for the Pump Upgrade! Its in the well now and working great! Yes, I will need to buy a controller rated for a 1 1/2HP pump, but I will run it off the 3/4 HP controller until the new one gets here. I sure am NOT pulling that pump out to send it back!

I purchased this pump to have as a replacement in the event mine goes out. Always nice to have one on the shelf. If and when mine goes out it will be on a weekend or holliday. Always happens that way. The pump was listed as used. I took a chance. The pump showed to indications of being installed. NONE!! I got a great pump and saved $266.00.

Efficient pump, easy install.

We liked it, but it just died, after only 8 years. Most of my friends who are on a well, have their pumps lasting 20-30 years. So I'll try a different brand, this time. Pretty easy install for a couple of amateurs. I wish I would have bought the shock absorber thingy but I didn't see it till after it was installed. It builds up pressure WAY faster than the old pump so it's not on long at all. Because of this we adjusted our switch to a 25 lb - 52 (from 30-50) so instead of coming on for only 3 seconds it stays on for a whopping 10 seconds. The old one would take 90 seconds to reach full pressure. You do notice the pressure change, especially in the shower it slows a bit then in that 10 second period it really builds up. It has messed with our chemical feed tank. We use it to raise our ph from 5.5 to close to neutral so the acidity doesn't eat our copper pipes. It's not working too well now. I'm hoping we can remedy this problem.

Works well- good price

Compared to the Goulds pump available at a store, this pump had equivalent capacity and was $412 instead of over $1400. It came with connectors and a regulator. Excellent.

Don’t waste your money!

Bought this pump back in June…. Literally used not quite 3 weeks and seized and doesn’t work snd cannot get it repaired, refunded, or any communication on where to bring it to! Please do not waste your hard earned money on this piece of frustration :(

Way cheaper than brand name

Replaced a 29 year old Jacuzzi well pump that had failed. I called the local well supply store to price out a replacement and they wanted $1700, plus labor! This has been working flawlessly for 3 months now which isn't much of a test, but I will update the review if it fails or I encounter problems!
