Like the clock

Like the clock, sounds good, looks good.. but... a few notes.. The color of mine was very light mahogany, not dark as picture shows. There are 4 screws that hold the clock backing in place, once removed, you can move the plastic piece which has the speaker on the inside and is attached to the clock only by the thin electrical wires. It's fairly easy to set the clock and chimes but is a pain if you have to do it multiple times. Why the clock controls can't be on the outside of the back is beyond me. If you just consider the inside, it's definitely cheap looking. However, functionally it works very well and looks great, keeps very good time thus far, and sounds realistic. Note, when hanging, allow for additional distance of screw or nail, as there are rubber grommets which keep clock from wall, about 3/8 of an inch is needed to protrude from wall. I left a packaging review, but very quickly: the clock came in it's original clock box, i.e.- the clock box was not inside a shipping box. The clock box clearly showed that a clock had just been delivered.. "surprise honey!" The box top was not secured with tape, it just slid right off.. Luckily (and amazingly) it was not damaged. If I encounter any issues I will update.

Nice-looking, solid feel. One small issue with usability.

Clock is attractive, and does have a solid-wood body (although it is "mahogany finish", not mahogany wood). It looks very nice on our wall. (I just hung it, so can't comment yet on the time-keeping, but the chimes work and sound good - not a 'small' sound.) One issue that kept me from giving it 5 stars: To get at any controls, including the pendulum, you have to take off the back. On the one hand, this is easy to do, using a thumb-hole to lift it slightly and then slide it out. On the other hand, it means taking the clock down if you want to change the volume. Or the chime type. Or the night-silence setting. Or, most oddly, to move the pendulum. Admittedly, if the battery keeps the pendulum moving okay, it's a relatively small problem once the initial settings are done. But, it would be nice to have a hinged front door to handle that sort of thing, so it could stay on the wall while you check or change settings. Overall, we are pleased with it. (Again, since it just came, I'll presume it keeps time; if not, will post an update here.)

I purchased this clock as a present for my mother in law. I was very impressed with the product out of the box. The clock was well packed in the box and I was pleased with the craftsmanship of the clock. You don't see that anymore. I had purchased a different clock prior to this one only to have to return it as I couldn't get the clock to chime correctly among other things. The only adjustment this clock required was the settings for the melody, volume control, night time chimes or not and of course setting the time. The chimes sound beautiful and work like a charm. I also love the fact that it came with a battery. The downside to changing any of the settings or replacing the batteries is that you have to take the clock down, unscrew the back to gain access. However having said that, per the instruction booklet the battery life is about a year. So if I only have to do that once a year its really not a big deal. At least for me. All in all this is an awesome clock and worth every penny I paid for it.

Classy clock

I ordered this clock as a last minute thought before Christmas. Amazon said it would arrive on Christmas Eve. I tracked it online and it seemed like it would be on time. Suddenly, tracking showed the package was sent half-way across the country in the opposite direction. It finally arrived the day after Christmas because of the Christmas craziness going on at USP, not because of Amazon. In spite of being in the shipping system for an extended period, the clock was still in perfect condition. It was fairly easy to set up and looks great. I appreciate the volume control and night-time silence button, and it's nice to have a choice of chimes. Although it was made in China, it has a quality appearance. It does not look plastic or cheap. Features that I wish it had are arabic numerals instead of Roman and no chiming on the quarter hours. I also wish its last chime was at 9 P.M. Some of us retire early.

It came with excellent instructions for setting the time

We got this as a gift for my mother-in-law. It came with excellent instructions for setting the time, chimes, and loudness. All sounds from the clock are synthesized and come out of a small speaker. The chimes and gong are crisp and realistic sounding. The loudness selection for the chime and gong function is rather sensitive so I recommend letting it run for a while before mounting the clock on the wall. Since the loudness selector is inside the case, it will be easier to adjust before putting the clock on the wall. The clock keeps extremely accurate time... I set my clocks by a Network Time Server and over the last few months the time has not deviated what so ever. No adjustments or settings are accessible from outside the case, everything has to be set from the back of the clock with the rear cover removed. If you are looking for a very nice wall clock, this one will fit the bill very nicely.

very nice.. but issues

easy to assemble.. no problems. it's a very nice clock too with good materials. The only problem is the sound is distorted. The sound started off fine, but the chime sounds like it's drunk. I've had the clock about a month and for the first 2 weeks it had no issues, then after that is when the sound distortion of the chime started. At first, I thought it was due to the battery, so I bought new batteries. this did not fix it. So now? the sound is still distorted. Due to this, I could only recommend to look elsewhere.

A happy old man

I bought this clock for my dad, as it was INCREDIBLY rare in Australia. He is over the moon and the fact it displays the correct time always, not too fast, not too slow. It does not fit his modern style house, but its there, looking odd as hell in the family room. Its a good clock, surprisingly light and compact.
