Already Broken / AMENDED REVIEW

This wheel collapses in two spots which would be great if it didn't break in the first few weeks of use. A retention spring has popped out, so it's now a like a wet noodle. Try measuring a back yard with that. AMENDED REVIEW. I contacted US Tape, who is the distributer of Durawheel and spoke with Alyssa. In 40 years of business, I have never dealt with anyone more helpful and more on top of things than Alyssa. She had the problem solved with in 20 minutes from the moment I sent US Tape an email. Thats old school customer service there and so unexpected and so refreshing.

The reset button may may not always go to zero

Very good product, my only issue, which is minor, is the reset button on the handle sometimes needs a little harder push or multiple push to reset the counter to zero.

Very well built measuring wheel...

I had a previous wheel that was a tad under half the cost of this wheel. There were many reasons it was bothering me, but almost all of the reasons centered around the fact that it felt cheap and appeared to not be solidly built. It mostly worked and got the job done. But what finally made me look for a better option was when I recently did a decent sized run of about 300 feet. I measured it twice and I was almost 20' off on my two runs. I did some more tests and I found similar issues on other runs. With this US Tape measuring wheel, I have nothing but good things to say. The wheel has some good weight to it and it runs true. The carrying case is nice and it is easy to fold up and take out. It is just night and day versus my older cheap measuring wheel. If you are thinking about buying a cheap wheel, I would strongly encourage you to upgrade to a nicer wheel such as this one. The build quality, reliability, and features are just so much better. I truly feel that this wheel will last me decades, instead of having to look at replacing other wheels over time. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase.

Best I have used.

I am a telecommunications engineer and I use this wheel pretty regularly. I have had it since 2011, it is my second one, I left the last one on the side of the road when I was in a hurry packing up my equipment to get home. This wheel has everything I need, I take a measurement and hit the brake while I put the kickstand out and prop the wheel, write down my measurement and go. It allows me to backtrack if I decide that I need something and I passed it already. I can zero it out from the grip easily. Where this wheel really excels is in the brush, it has a narrow frame and I don't worry about it folding up like some of the other wheels I have used. The measurements I take count! My company is ordering cable based on what this thing says, if I am wrong I am in big trouble, the measurement is accurate. I stake my livelihood on it... I have two cons: 1) sometimes it doesn't start. I used to get all the way through a span and look down at the wheel and it is stuck at 9999, now I keep an eye on it, when it take off. To be fair this did not happen with my previous wheel, the one I lost. :( 2) MUD, I have struggled with mud and this wheel ever since I have owned it. It has gotten to the point that I try not to work in the mud if I can help it, which I really can't. It has a "squeegee" that is intended to prevent mud getting into this thing, but in the worst stuff it does no good. It can totally seize this thing up. Overall I love this wheel and I use it regularly, I depend on it. Most of my co-workers are jealous of it, some have gone out and bought their own. There may be a better wheel on the market, but I haven't found it.

Customer service still rules

My version of the DW-1000 was purchased from Amazon in 2010. When it worked, it worked well. It's actually a very nice design, accurate and versatile. Where I think they missed the mark is the material chosen for the drive belt that links the gears on the wheel and counter. It is (was) made of what appears to be organic material that disintegrated to the point there's nothing left to photograph but some debris that looks like rubber eraser droppings. When I searched for the replacement part, no dice. Not on Amazon and not on the USTape (manufacturer) site. I started writing this review to lament the lack of replacement parts (i.e., product support). However, it felt irresponsible to do so without first reaching out to the mfr. As it turns out, they don't SELL the replacement belt; they send it out as a warranty item. Absolutely first-class. Here's another reminder to not be too hasty in writing a negative review. It would've been an injustice in this case. Kudos to USTape.

The Best Measuring Wheel I’ve Ever Owned

I’ve been in the roofing estimation business for 15 years. Using a measure wheel to measure roofs cuts the work by more than half and makes it much safer. I’ve paid 50, 60, 70 and $80 for what I thought were good quality measuring wheels that I’m lucky to get through one summer with. It seems some component of the wheel would break or malfunction at some point and I would just trash it and go buy another one. When I went to get my next one it occurred to me maybe there is a much better quality product on Amazon. Sure enough this is it. If you’re like me and you use this kind of tool frequently it is worth every penny to spend the extra money for this high-quality product as it will save you in the long run. Highly recommend for professional use.

Best wheel bar none

Over the years I’m embarrassed to say how many measuring wheels I have bought. I just kept buying the same ones from Home Depot or Lowe’s. finally I came across this one and it is perfect it cost a little bit more than the cheapo’s that are in the store but it is well worth it. Great quality totally satisfied
