I’m not sure if this is a valid product

I received this sweater for my birthday from my Mother who paid $400. It arrived in a plastic sack, not a box with no protective sheeting or paper or anything. Is this a knock off? Pretty sure it is as it’s closer to an xs in size rather than a medium. For the price, I expected it to arrive I a box with paper, not tossed unfolded into a packing plastic sack. It doesn’t feel like cashmere either so I’m sending it back. It’s just too bad as I really like the Vince brand and buy it at Anthropologie.
