Fantastic Walls coat … but gets dinged two stars for the CRUMMY ZIPPER!
I’ll echo what numerous others here have complained about. The zipper on this Walls coat is a MAJOR fail. I arm wrestled the thing till my fingers ached, working it hard from every which angle, even dousing it with Wahl hair clipper oil, trying to get it to loosen up and run smoothly. No dice. I had no such trouble with the zipper on the matching Walls lined vest I bought to wear under it on extra cold days. I really like the coat, but given all the complaints about the zipper, have no confidence that simply returning it for a replacement will be any better. Sad too because I expected much better of a Walls product and want to keep it. We have an expert seamstress near the army base here who does amazing alterations on uniforms and military gear. I’ll take this coat to her for a decent zipper replacement. Meanwhile, I miss the Texas tough Walls reputation of decades past. If anyone at their new digs in Nashville sees this review, mans up and offers to cover my seamstress cost, I’ll be a gentleman as well and revise my two star ding. FOLLOW-UP: Seamstress nixed the zipper replacement. Way too much effort and little ROI in her opinion. So I moved on to Plan B below... CONVERT A ZILCHO ZIPPER JACKET TO A SNAPPY TUNIC: Got my best project scissors out and ran them up the zipper tapes, right behind the teeth, shearing the whole zipper off both sides flush with the seams. Tossed the zipper in the trash. Got a kit of two dozen 17mm heavy duty antique brass snap fasteners, complete with setter tools, all for $12 and free shipping via Amazon Prime. Installed five of the brass snaps, centered over the Velcro closure patches on my Walls jacket. Took about half an hour, once I got set up and going. I like the result, really looks sharp. Beats constant mortal combat with that cantankerous double zipper rig. See accompanying pic...

Happier than I expected with this coat
I bought the coat to work in because an old Carhart coat head wore out. Carhartt no longer made the model I liked and didn’t find anything to meet what I was looking for. I stumbled on this coat and I’m incredibly glad I did. I can’t think of a coat I would enjoy wearing more it’s surprisingly warm, it seems to shed snow. Very very very happy with the purchase would highly recommend.

Zipper takes some breaking in, but a great coat
I purchased this coat to replace a Marlboro Country jacket I've had for over a decade which is well past worn out. Finding a good combination cargo/hand pocket jacket at a reasonable price was a bit of a challenge. I read previous reviews and had some concerns about the zipper, but ultimately decided it was worth taking the chance. I'm glad I did. The fit, weight, and finish of the coat were everything I hoped they would be. The coat is warm enough to be comfortable in a snowy Nebraska winter with only a tee shirt on underneath (I'd probably increase my under layering on the bitter cold single digit/below zero days, but it's great for the 30s, 20s, and even teens. The bottom of the coat isn't particularly fitted, so I was initially concerned about drafts just above the waist. That concern turned out to be completely unwarranted. The way the tail of the coat is cut seems to be pretty effective in limiting draftiness, even on windy days. In the side picture it looks like the front of the coat is pretty gappy, but I've never noticed this during normal wear. Finally, the zipper. The zipper design is definitely interesting, and wasn't entirely what I was expecting even after reading the other reviews, but it is functional, and I could even see it being somewhat handy on warmer days or if you had a hoodie you needed to access the front pocket on. As other reviews had mentioned, when I first received the coat it could be tricky to get the zipper started. For me, I found that inserting the straight/left side of the zipper gently and not "bottoming it out hard" made it more likely to work. I would say initially I had about a 60% success rate in first attempt zips, Having worn the coat regularly for the past month or so, on and off at least a few times a day, the zipper now seems to be broken in and is easy to operate - I'm not sure when I last had a first time failure to zip. Very pleased with this purchase. Fit wise - 5' 10", 250lb husky guy with a bit of a belly (not as big as it looks in the picture, I have gloves in the pockets), XL fit me just right. Did not realize how reflective the upper pocket strip was until I took these pictures.

Great buy
This jacket is very well made, and stands up against the elements and ranch work very well. I highly recommend it over other name brand jackets for both its quality and reasonable cost.

Jacket was as described.
Only dislike is the zipper which takes a little work to get right.

Zipper Is Trash
Like every other zipper review, this one is negative. This is one of the nicest best fitting coats and the zipper just ruines it. I've got plenty of outerwear that has heavy duty double zippers such as this one and they work flawless, I'm not sure why this one doesn't. Don't buy unless you've got the know how to attach a different one.

Great jacket!
I wore the big C Arctic coat before this and since I've been in the process of losing weight, I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on something that won't fit next winter. I'm happily surprised with this coat. So much that when I get to my goal weight I am going to buy another one that fits. Seems well constructed, warmth is comparable but not as warm as the big C, but very close. It looks good too! If you want one, put it in your cart and watch the price. I saved $20 by doing this which ends up being less than half the big C!!!
