Good quality
This is a good quality chuck that gets the job done. It is by no means a high-end or precise chuck, but for the price I would definitely recommend it to any amateur looking to explore a lathe on a budget.

Great value
Feels solid after maybe 15 hours of turning multiple projects. Largest project I’ve done is 8x3 bowl on this.

Works really well
I bought this to increase my lathe capabilities on my Wen lathe. I am writing this review going from a beginner in turning to a seasoned hobbyist. I bought this chuck just over a year ago and wanted to give this item a decent long term review. The Good: -Inexpensive and perfect for the beginner wanting to enter the world of more advanced wood turning. -The chuck has a variety of gripping abilities and has a pretty good ease of use with it. -When used properly, it holds the items being turned really well. -Comes with all of the accessories needed to secure it into place. The kind of bad: -The screw that comes with it can be a bit of a pain to get set into wood. Experience plays a key factor here in getting it properly secured into the block of wood. -The piece is secured into the chuck by turning the back of the chuck then tightening with two rods. If this is not done right the piece can and will come loose, fly out like a rocket, and potentially knock a 3" hole in your ceiling. Make sure that when you cut your gripping areas, you cut a matching bevel to help the chuck hold more securely. Once I started doing this, if it loosens a little (rarely) the bevel catches it from flying out. (speaking from hard learned experiences here) Overall, I like this tool. It was perfect for a beginner and the weekend woodworker like me. I have spun everything from spindles, magic wands, cups, and bowls. Learning is a part of the process behind every tool. I was a beginner when I first bought this and learned lessons the easy and hard ways. When use properly it works very well. My recommendation: I like it and would certainly recommend (and have recommended) it to people to get started with as a beginner chuck. It was an update to my accessories that I really like having around.

Easy setup and precise
Easy setup and precise, only thing would improve is a single key to open/close chuck as sometimes need one hand to properly align material while tightening at the same time.

Good, but not the best
You get what you pay for. This chuck is pretty decent for the price, but I've had a few work pieces fly out of it on my benchtop lathe despite really cranking it to secure them in place. But still, it's a great beginner chuck for a small lathe. I probably wouldn't use it on anything larger than a 8" bowl, though.

Wobbling due to excentricity (mounting plate not in line with center of body)
The media could not be loaded. The jaw mounting plate of offset on one side by about 2mm causing the whole thing to wobble. It makes it impossible to switch from a regular mounting plate (with screws) to this chuck when turning the same piece because the center of the plate with which I start turning can't match the excentric rotational axis of this chuck, so I would end up having to remove much more material to get the pieced aligned with the "new" rotational axis of the chuck. I have no intention of using this chuck given that it fails at its most basic function, which is to hold my work piece along the rotational axis of my lathe safely. I've seen multiple Amazon reviews that share this same issue of wobbling and misalignement. In the pictures you can clearly see the gap with the red arrow on one side, and the opposite side there is no gap. This allows one plate holding the piece to rotate off-center from the main body which is screwed to the lathe as you can see on the video. It's subtle, but you can see one part of the chuck not wobbling while the rest and the piece does. It's a damn shame since the construction seems pretty solid, and the jaws open and close quite nicely.

Second chuck with the same problem
Not happy with this chuck from WEN, but then at the price they are selling it at - which is the cheapest on one sale it is still over priced. The first one had such a bad wobble that it was unsafe to use and by the way I have 2 wood laths and it did the same on both of them. I send it back to amazon with in an hour and received a replacement the very next day. The second chuck has a wobble in it as well but not as bad as the first one, I would say about 1 mm. The first chuck was off by 2d to 3 mm both running at 500 rpm's you see it. As they are made in China you know that there is no quality control. Why did I order it if I have 2 lathes - well I have one chuck that is good but it is very old and is no longer sold. I figured I would pickup a second chuck for the other lathe this way I would have a back up. But as the saying goes you get what you pay for, cheap price = cheap item. Stay a way from it if you can..... or take your chances on getting a good one.

Lots of value for the money
I have a more expensive "name brand" chuck that I use for wood turning but couldn't find it when I needed to immediately do a project for a gift. I bought this one with very low expectations given the price but honestly it's a perfectly serviceable wood chuck at a reasonable price. I've since found the other chuck but will keep this around for the odd job where my other one may be tied up.
