Basic floor lamp
This lamp is sturdy and working. The knob is a bit hard to turn. The price I bought was $52 and it seems to increase a bit now.

Not really sturdy, just good looking.
This is my second of this exact model, and I have had (back in the day) several torchiers (not all from this company) before. The first models used "halogen quartz" incandescent bulbs (the old "stick shaped" bulbs) that really sucked up the juice and got hot as Hades, and always ended up frying their wiring after 3 or so years, but at least they had decent quality GLASS lamp bowls. This one (and its' predecessors) have plastic lamp bowls that dry rot and crumble, and since the last 2 both were used with CFLs, I guessing that the UV level from those bulbs (fluorescent bulbs produce significant UV because of the physics of how the create light) was not truly compatible with them. Many plastics actually are UV cured, the CFLs just over cured / speed aged them. I'll find out soon enough, as this one is only ever going to see LED bulbs. I found I could buy replacement bowls from the OEM - the 2 bowls plus shipping from factory was nearly the same as a complete new lamp from Amazon so that choice was obvious. My other real complaint is the bases of those old halogen quartz torchieres were heavy weight but a bit weak at the pole joint. These are "better", the weight is much less, and the pole to base joint is strong enough to survive only if nothing heavier than a cat ever leans against it..... So why do I buy these? A torchiere is about all that fits in the corner where I need it, the lighting level is adjustable without using a "dimmer", and the price on Amazon is quite reasonable.

Disappointed that CFL bulbs don't fit
My trusty $20 torchiere from Target that I have used for years recently broke, and I wanted to replace it with a similar floor lamp. I was specifically looking for one with a flexible gooseneck reading lamp like my old one, but there were very few of those available at an affordable price. I saw this Adesso model here on Amazon, read the reviews, and thought it was perfect. It was really simple to assemble; all you have to do is twist the poles and the shades into place with no additional tools. The shades are made of white translucent plastic, which is fine by me, but at this price range I would have expected something nicer, like glass. When I finished setting up the lamp, I was very disappointed by the gooseneck lamp. It's not as long as I thought it would be, and although it's flexible, it doesn't hold its position very well. It kind of droops down from whatever position you configure it in. I was most disappointed by the type of bulbs the lamp accepts though. There's big bold words on the box that reads, "Do not use halogen bulbs, only standard". No where on the product page here on Amazon mentioned this. Who in their right mind would want to use standard, energy wasting bulbs when CFLs are so widely available now? I tried installing CFL bulbs anyways, and was relieved it accepted them. Ok, so I screwed in my CFLs, which were all mini 15W (60W equiv.), but there wasn't enough room for them in the main lamp. Not only that, the CFLs stuck out hideously over the shade because it's not high enough to cover them. I then tried standard bulbs, and found they were dangerously close to each other, creating a potential fire hazard. After much frustration and trying to figure what to do next, I discovered the bulb sockets could be re-adjusted so that the CFLs would fit and the shade would be able to cover them. I don't think they were meant to be adjustable, but I'm glad they could be. I asked my big strong uncle to help me do so, re-installed the CFLs, and the lamp was *near* perfect. So if you're planning to purchase this lamp, be aware that it wasn't made for CFLs, and you'll have to do some re-adjusting to the lamp if you plan to use them. With all its problems, I really do like the look of this lamp, and I also like how there is only one on/off switch located right in the middle on the pole, used for both lamps. Its placement is convenient because I don't have to stand up when I'm in bed to turn the lamp on or off.

Problem with switch
Design looks great. Assembly was OK. Lighting i excellent. The problem is the 3 way switch. After 6 monhs it worked itself loose. I got it to tighten (metric allen wrench)to the point where it now turns the lights on and off, but it is still loose on the stem of the switch.

Beautiful lamp. One issue.
Beautiful lamp. I found that a single 40W LED in the top is sufficient to softly illuminate our family room – and my laptop keyboard – without affecting TV viewing. A 40W LED in the side arm is more than sufficient for reading. The shaft comes in three pieces that screw together. The threads are fine, making the shaft quite sturdy when assembled. Be careful to properly align the pieces you’re screwing together so that you don’t damage the threads. The switch knob is a bit hard to turn. It came off in my hand after a week. It has a hex socket set screw that presses into a split plastic shaft coming out of the switch. I found a Torx T6X40 in my toolbox that worked to reattach the knob. While the split in the plastic shaft provides tension to hold the screw in place, I think a small hole drilled into the plastic shaft for the screw to fit into would provide a more secure connection. A larger, knurled knob would make the switch easier to turn. Overall: I love it.
