They all do the it. They all get dull. This one worked great
Eventually they will split the wood when reaching it's destination. This worked great. I'm sure it will get dull and start slitting the material you are cutting into. This works great.

these bits really kick some butt
While I was in college, I worked on a student-run carnival which involved the construction of several large playhouses, entirely from wood. Erecting these structures required the work of hundreds of college students over the course of an entire week, working 24/7 (literally, day and night). It also required lots of bolts, which is where these spade bits came in handy. Drilling the holes for bolts requires boring all the way through several adjoining 2x4s, and normal spade bits often stop "biting' after punching through the first stud, and after a few studs, normal spade bits start to get dull, and both situations require you to leverage yourself and really strain to get your hole cut. These bits, however, cut through the wood like its butter, without so much as a whimper. I can understand the other reviewer's frustration, because I did have some friends try to use my bits in their drills, and their drills just weren't able to provide the necessary torque to keep these aggressive bits turning. When paired with my 18v bosch cordless drill with LED light, these bits saved me a LOT of trouble. There were times when i was drilling a hole in a pitch-black corner in the middle of the night, between two studs, standing on top of a ladder (I know, bad idea), where i couldn't get much leverage at all, and all i did was shine the light where i needed the hole and point the screw tip towards it, and fire. The threads catch really quickly, and pull the bit right through the wood, requiring minimal leverage or force or effort on your part. The best part is that they really do keep cutting longer than traditional spade bits, so you don't need to change them as often, so they kind of pay for themselves.

Great bits
These are great bits. I needed a 7/16 bit for a project I was working on, and the kit that I'd bought previously didn't have that size, and the local HW store was out when I went to look. The bit I ordered did take a while to arrive, but that was no big deal. It is important that you use these bits correctly. The Bosch daredevil bits are a little different than your normal spade bits. The threaded end is meant to bite in, making drilling even quicker, and helping to keep you straight. HOWEVER...you are supposed to drill a small pilot hole for the threads. This insures that you get a proper bite when drilling into harder wood (it's not necessarily needed on softer 2x4's or similar, but for instance I'd recommend it for plywood). As another reviewer mentioned, the majority of low-star reviews seem to come from people who aren't using it correctly. While I disagree that you can't use these with a cordless drill, you need to have a quality one. A cheap-o drill with no torque may struggle, but my 18v Ridgid has not had any issues when using up to 1 1/2" spade bits.

Sharp Bit
Needed to drill a couple of holes in kitchen floor, that is 2 1/4” thick. This bit hooked up to my Milwaukee 1/2” drill made short work of the job. Topside hole.was very clean and pretty smooth. Bottom hole was a little jagged, but not bad. I would buy this bit again.

Broke during first time use ☹️
I received this bit yesterday ( March/11/21) I started using it this afternoon and this happened, it is pretty scary when this happens while trying to get the job done, by few inches and it could’ve gone bad. I am not sure if I would trust this brand anymore. Unfortunately I bought a big set of drill bits and I am not sure if I want to keep using them anymore. I am definitely considering in purchasing a different brand for sure.

These are legitimately the only bits I buy for boring wood.
The screw end just pulls the bit through the wood for me, and they seem to stay sharp longer than most other products I buy. I have a bunch of these, and when they finally dull, I just buy another one. These bits are the best for wood boring in my opinion.

Not if you want clean holes
I bought this bit because I needed 13/16 holes in the edges of 2x4's for deck railing spindles. The threaded tip just plows into the wood and makes a mess. Great for going through a 2x4 stud to run electrical but not for a clean hole where you are trying to control the depth. My Irwin bits are perfect at that so I am ordering that one. Lesson learned: Don't order the cheapest spade bit off Amazon.

Fantastic bits.
These are really good drill bits, especially considering the low price. There is a 6 set available as an add-on on Amazon ( Bosch DSB5006 Daredevil Standard Spade Bit Set ) which is about $10 most of the time - So unless you just want this one then that might be worth looking at instead. I bought this because I wanted two 5/8ths ones. Hopefully, you find this helpful!
