Half as bright as alkaline battery unit of same model.
Not as bright as it’s alkaline battery equivalent. Sent it back.

Its great
Battery life is great in relation to brightness settings. Im very happy with it. Brightness is excellent, and the focus is excellent. Simple to connect for recharging, but I do wish there was a dedicated port for charging instead if having to remove the cord to power the light. Regardless, I do recommend this product.

Using it daily
This review is from the perspective of a daily (or near daily user of this light) I received this unit defective, hence the initial one star review. It flickers a lot and switches from high intensity to off or dim on its own. After some fiddling with the wires and the adjustment switch it stays at the setting that I desire - sometimes. It's fairly comfortable to wear. I find the headband very comfortable, while tight enough to keep the unit in place. However, the housing for the headlamp can get painful to wear on your forehead after a certain amount of time. I enjoy the fact that it's rechargeable. I leave it charging overnight then use it on and off throughout the day. I also enjoy that it is adjustable. You can adjust both focus, and beam brightness/intensity, except that as I mentioned already, my unit has a mind of its own when it comes to whether it wants to stay on and at what level of intensity. I reached out to coast customer support and explained my issue to them. They asked me to send it in for repair/replacement at my OWN expense. This was a disappointment. Given that this was purchased from Amazon I would have had the option to send it back as defective free of charge within the allotted time window, but I didn't realize I would run into issues with coast warranty. I aim to update this review with the outcome of the warranty claim I made once this issue is resolved. Update: Coast customer support said they'll send me a new unit once I send them proof of purchase. Within a week I had a new and fully functioning unit in hand, complete with everything that comes in the original box. Great job Coast customer support. The new unit does not have the flickering/on-off issue that my first unit had, though I caught it flickering once for the briefest moment since I started using. This is not something that makes me take off a star, hence the updated 5 star rating.

Mine was dead... or so I thought. Bright, adjustable, focusable, rechargeable, replaceable non-proprietary batteries
I purchased this many moons ago. I'm not a huge fan of Coast versus Fenix/Surefire/etc., but this one seemed to hit all the key points. The biggest factor was that it's rechargeable, and the batteries are replaceable non-proprietary batteries (AAA NiMH batteries available everywhere). My other favorite is the Myo XP 2, but it's out of production and it's not rechargeable. It's light in weight (much lighter than AA powered headlamps) and plenty bright. The focusing lens works extremely well, though it can be a bit stiff if unused for a long period. However, I'd rather have it too stiff than too loose and slipping to another focus point as I work. It varies from a bright spot with a perfectly round and even spillbeam, to a perfectly round beam with no hotspots (this mode is great for reading) As my title mentions, I thought mine had died, and it sat dormant for many months, but I swapped the generic NiMH batteries with a set of Sanyo Eneloops and it fired right up. One of the generic cells had some white powder on the positive terminal. I was about to invoke Coast's lifetime warranty, but I haven't needed to so far. The included usb charger appears to charge the Eneloops just fine so far. Things I noticed: There's a blinking green LED cleverly hidden in the lens that shows you the charge status The terminals inside appear to be gold plated (good) The rheostat (dimming adjuster) works well so far; we'll see if it gets "jumpy" and "staticy" as it corrodes and ages like an old home dimmer switch. I would prefer digital controls (e.g. 4 brightness levels) for longevity, but the simplicity of this setup has some appeal. Things to improve: bigger and finned heatsink for the LED better waterproofing (though I've never had issues with it failing in weather) ship it with better batteries such as Sanyo Eneloops. Unlikely to happen, but one can wish

Its Bright
I am really satisfied with this head lamp, it is very bright and when focused out and set on high you can't beat it for lighting up a task. The one that I received the slider for the brightness is very touchy and seems to be shorting out at times. I found a way to lock it onto full brightness which is where I always want it any ways so its all good. Another very good point is that the switch on the light itself turns the light on and off and that's all. I have used other lamps that you have to cycle through 2 or 3 other modes before you can turn it off and when you use it for work and are turning it on and off several times a day you appreciate the simplicity of it.

Use this every single day on my hard hat at work. Battery life leaves a bit to be desired, and the strap could be a tad bigger. But has never failed me
