Comfortable shorts, great for travel and hot days
I have this style of shorts in about 8-10 colors (from previous seasons). I love the material. It’s comfortable and cool. I live in Atlanta and we have a lot of 90+ degree days every summer and these are the shorts I wear on those days. The length of the shorts is great for being active-walking, hiking, working in the yard. And, I don’t mind running errands and being seen in “public” in these shorts. They look nice when paired with a nicer shirt. I went to Hawaii for 3 weeks and all I packed was 4 pairs of these shorts and 4 pairs of Columbia Anytime shorts (knee length). I was able to mix and match a different variety of tops with the shorts. And, if you get something on them, they clean up great with a little soap and water. They do wrinkle fairly easily but the wrinkles seem to fall out pretty quickly when you start wearing them. There are 2 reasons I am giving these 4 stars instead of 5. When I received my order of the “Sea Wave” color, I put them on to make sure they fit the same as my other pairs. Once I decided they fit fine, I took them off to cut off the tags. When I unsnapped them, the snap broke! I was so disappointed. I immediately contacted Amazon and they sent a replacement. The replacement did not have this problem with the snap and I have worn them several times since. So, hopefully it was a one-time problem. The 2nd problem I have is the belt. In previous years, the belt has been made of a thinner, smoother material. This year’s belt is just like the ones that have always come in my husband’s Columbia shorts/pants. I don’t like this belt as well because it hangs on my shirts. With the old style belt, my shirt would just glide over the belt and never get hung. Overall, I love this style shorts and I only wish Columbia would bring back the old belt and make them in more colors every season!

Running small
Great shorts! I would suggest ordering a size up.

MVP hiking shorts!
I bought these shorts on a lark, last minute, for a trip to Arizona and they ended up being my favorite hiking shorts of the trip! I packed a second pair of shorts from another outdoor brand that I've owned longer but these Columbia shorts were so comfy that I kept choosing them over my other pair. They're incredibly lightweight and pack nicely. Though they wrinkled in my bag, my body heat loosened them up and you'd never know they were wrinkled. The fabric was perfect in the heat. Very lightweight and breathable, I was comfortable (or as comfortable as one can be when it's over 100 degrees) and the UPF claims held up - no sunburn despite the intense Arizona sun. They stretched and moved well but they never got shapeless or baggy. The belt was a nice touch, no slippage or tugging them back up, even with my phone in the pockets. On that note, I found the the pockets to be deep *enough* (compared to other shorts) but my phone did fall out at one point. On steeper trails where I was taking bigger steps, I was a little worried I would lose my phone. My only complaint, and I suppose this is more an issue with my body type, is that despite the 6 inch inseam, they still rode up where my thighs rubbed together. Typically one side would ride up and, on one long hiking day in the Grand Canyon, I got a rash from the friction of the hem on one leg rubbed on the bare skin of my other thigh. It didn't happen on shorter hikes but if you have thicker thighs that are prone to chub rub, you may want to consider longer shorts or an anti-chaffing product. It's not enough to stop me from wearing them, but I wouldn't mind if they had an extra inch in the inseam. Overall, they live up to the claims of being breathable and having UPF protection. I found them to be flattering to my curves, and they didn't look too technical so they don't look out of place if you run into town. They're not perfect due to the shallower pockets and the bunching between my thighs, but I still kept choosing them over my other hiking shorts.

BUY A SIZE UP
Way too small, cuts you at the crotch area. Doesn't stretch well. I would say - hard pass.

Just so you know
The shorts fit perfect but the do not have a built in panty and are pretty see through.

Comfortable and provides security
These were purchased for three reasons. The first is the UPF sun protection. The second is the quick dry as I use them kayaking and/or swimming. The third is the security of a zipped pocket. I keep my car key zipped away so I don't lose it, and don't have to leave it unattended wherever my stuff is when going to parks. They also happen to be very comfortable, and I think they look good too. I like the combination of elastic and a belt. Once the elastic goes you can still use them because you have the belt. What I don't understand, though, is why different colors have different pricing. I would have purchased a couple more pairs had the other colors not been more expensive. Previously I purchased from Bealls and had four colors. After having lost weight I needed a smaller size so got two pairs through Amazon. Thank you, RM.

Fine
I’m pretty picky with shorts, and these are okay. I’m pear-shaped and have muscular legs; these are on the lower/mid-rise side, and are tighter around the hips and thighs than I expected. If they had some stretch, there wouldn’t be any problem. They don’t taper through the waist very well. The leg holes are loose, which is nice. Lots of extra fabric around the crotch area. They sound like snow pants when walking. I wish they had a back pocket. Overall, they’re nice enough that I kept them. I bought them for work because of the 6” inseam. They’re pretty flattering through the butt, but are just okay. The fabric breathes well and the belt is pretty cool.

Weird crotch, very unflattering
These shorts are okaaaaaay, useable but not great. I got the large, as I’m usually a size 6-8 and since they come with a belt I thought that would be safer. The waist and legs fit pretty well, and the belt is pretty good! The weird part is the crotch area, it’s super short so when I pull them up to my waist it gives this horrible weird camel toe lol. It’s like the crotch is made too short for the size of the shorts. The material is cheap but comfortable enough. The crotch thing makes them really hard to wear though.

Zippered pocket too small
Zippered pocket too small for anything bigger that a key. Definitely not fitting a small phone. A bigger secure side pocket would be a plus.
