Amazing, just set to blink

These lights are downright miraculous. They take less than an hour to fully charge and produce up to 12 hours of continuous blinking light. When you turn them on, they're easy to reach while on the bike so you can turn them on while you're actually writing or at a stop sign or something. But the most impressive thing about them is how bright they are for how small they are. I had people thinking that I might have been a policeman on a bicycle with them on. I put two of the white ones on my front forks and one red one on my back seat and combined with my front NiteRider I am as visible as I can possibly be even though it's still very dangerous to ride in America. The one thing I forgot to do is to set it to blink to preserve the battery life. If you don't do that and leave it on continuous or pulsing you'll only get about 3 hours out of them which is still a lot. But if you put it on blank you get more than 10 hours easily.

Defective charging port seal

Revising my rating from 1 to 4 as the manufacturer got back to me with instructions to reseal the gasket. I had started to take the unit apart at first but stopped in case I caused additional problems. When the back is off it does look like the gasket is longer than the length it needs to be but once reset and screwed in it appears okay. Perhaps I stretched it out when opening the cover. Cygolite did offer to send a new gasket but that wasn't necessary. I had this experience 3 weeks after purchasing it and my first time charging it. After charging I tried to re-seal the charging port and discovered it would not close. The rubber rain / water plug won't seat because the retainer thread is not seated properly and cannot be readjusted. See the attached pictures. I'm very familiar with these kinds of plugs and am not a heavy handed user. I worry about water getting in if I'm out and it's raining so I tried contacting the seller who said to reach out to the manufacturer, CygoLite, for warranty repair or exchange. The manufacturer has a simple form with no way of uploading pictures and nothing more than a simple description field. It's been three days and I've not heard back. My loss, but you can be forewarned. If they do and offer some help or exchange I'll update this comment. But I think based on that warranty submission form there is not much interest on their part to honor warranty, repair or exchange. It is after all, less than one month after I purchased it and charged only one time. I looked to see if I could open it to re-fix the cord but that proved impossible. I suppose I could also cut it and have a loose cover which I'm sure to loose. Be forewarned.

Best pair of lights I’ve owned. (edited 4 years later)

I’ve owned a lot of small usb rechargeable lights but the Cygolite Hotrod beats all of them. I have had these for almost two years now. They are still going strong. 1. Brightness. Both front and rear have sufficient brightness and a variety of light modes. The light mode I find myself using a lot is the low flash. It says low flash, but my no means is it “low”. During sunset to the darkest of nights, this low flash setting is unbelievably bright. To add, this setting goes for 32 hours before a recharge is needed. I had a pair of Serfas Tridents, and those went on for around 8 hours before needing a charge (on the low flash). If the road is really dark, the hotrod at it’s highest brightness (High Steady) does a decent job. I can see around 5 feet ahead of me, luckily I also have another light on for these scenarios. The Cyolite Hotrod is for sure a “to be seen” light, not so much of a “to see the road” type of light, if you guys get what I mean. 2. Form factor. The light itself is really small. Around 8cm long. Despite this, like I said, the battery life is exponential. The straps are also very convenient for whatever seatpost you have. I have the Specialized Venge post and the straps work just fine. I had another bike with a 27.2 seatpost, the straps also did just fine then too. The straps have been in use daily for almost 2 years with no sign of wear. The light itself is of robust quality too. I dropped it countless times, and the plastic cover on the rear light covering the LED did crack. But honestly, it spreads the light sideways now sooooo haha. Kidding, but it still works like a charm. No water has seeped in either. 3. Price? A lot of people may argue that spending almost 60 dollars for a pair of lights isn’t worth it. I’d have to argue against that. A light is for you to be seen at night. I’d rather spend good money on a QUALITY bike light and be safe. Rather than, spend my money on a cheapo light and risk it all. I convinced a lot of fellow friends to buy this light and all of them will tell you the same thing “it was worth it”. Conclusion? Buy this. If you’re in the market for a new small light, this will suit your needs. Not only is it bright, the light is tough, long lasting, and small. I hope this review helped any of you. Thank you! The advertised weight is accurate btw. (4 years later) The lights are still working, bright, and used daily. These lights have been through a lot. Countless charge cycles, yet it still hasn't failed. The battery life is still great.

Excelentes luces para usar de noche o de día

Si estás buscando unas luces para tu bici creo estás son una excelente opción. Son más pequeñas de lo que me imaginé pero tienen muy buena potencia. Puedes elegir entre diferentes modos tanto de luz estática como de tipo estrobo a diferentes intensidades. La duración de la batería depende de que modo elijas. Son muy fáciles de quitar y poner en el manubrio y el poste del asiento de la bici, cuando salgo las pongo y cuando llego al trabajo las quito. Les pongo 4 estrellas porque la tapa que cubre el conector micro usb no es de la mejor calidad y a mi parecer no sella muy bien el puerto. Apenas me tocó un poco de lluvia y aunque no le dio directamente si se mojaron y vi que había entrado un poco de agua al puerto.

Battery life suffers after about a year (or less)

I thought these lights were great at first. Battery life seemed to last for about a week's worth of road rides (1-2.5 hrs per ride). After about a season, I'd only get about 2 rides per charge when the light would do that low battery flicker warning. Fine. Then it got down to only one ride per charge. At this price, it's ridiculous to have to buy a new set of lights once a year. I'll find some other cheaper brand from now on. Buyer beware.

Decent backup lights

I ordered 2 sets of these lights a short time apart. One set works admirably, but one came with a defective rear light which would not charge after the first use. Battery light and brightness are both adequate. I wish it had 2 separate modes to allow you to switch between always on brightness levels and flashing modes without cycling through the full set of options every time. The lights are quite long, so make sure you have enough room to accommodate them. It's not an issued with the seat post, but if your bars only have a small amount of space to mount accessories you should expect to have to find a less than ideal solution.

An outstanding product!

A well engineered, excellent product that will be noticed for its quality. The light is bright and the various modes are more than enough to meet my needs. These lights are meant to be seen by other users of the highway under any circumstances - daytime or nighttime. . The flashes that they emit is bright. Their design and the straps that are provided allow them to be attached virtually anywhere on my bike. I would strongly recommend these lights to anyone looking for an outstanding product. Way to go Cygolite!

Son muy buenas luces. Ya había comprado únicamente la luz roja pero la perdí. Tan convencido estoy de la calidad del producto que la volví a comprar ahora en paquete.
