Great replacement option!

I did not want to spend a ton of money on replacing the deadbolts in my house - buying matching sets, rekeying, etc., were out of the question. I happened upon these as a replacement for my Callan deadbolts and saw some hit or miss reviews. I can tell you from my experience, these worked perfectly. I can't remember the exact type of Callan deadbolt I had, but these worked in terms of fit, form, and function. The savings I had from this was fantastic as I would have either had to buy four new sets and pray the finishes all matched, or rekey the existing locks. Replaced two deadbolt mechanisms for $30 total...well worth it!

Not Universal or One Tool Installation

Bought this to replace a broken deadbolt latch in a front door. Old one came out no problem, new one…didn’t fit. Upon closer inspection, I discovered Design House added a piece to this standalone latch versus the combo unit or even the standalone square latch that increases the diameter of the piece. If you look at the side by side picture, you can see the wider oil-brushed piece at the end that was added. So, you either have to drill out the door a smidge or hammer the thing into place. Which I did…only to discover that the plate is also slightly thicker than the old one and it does not sit flush with the door. So I had to pry it out, chisel out a portion of the door, and hammer it back in. After all that, it worked as it should and looks fine. However, this is NOT a universal fit and it is not the same piece as you get with the combo unit. Finally, it didn’t come with any screws, so if your old ones are stripped or lost, you’ll have to provide your own. Save yourself the hassle, spend the extra $10 and get the combo.

Just as I had expected

I purchased this item as a factory original replacement to a deadbolt that was installed 16 months previously in a new-build house that I cannot find an inexpensive replacement from a local source. The basis for the "3 star" rating are as follows; quality and conformity to original design (it was far from a good fit). The original part had begun to seize after barely more than a year of normal use. The small, circular cross shaped key-way show in the picture broke as a result - substandard quality by my taste. The replacement I received I expect about the same duration service. As far as the latter reason, the mounting plate patterns (there were 2 included: rectangular, one with square corners and the other radius) did not match the original. I had to make minor adjustments to the door via a chisel for the mounting plate and diameter for the shank of the whole assembly (the door, not the door frame). This really isn't a bad product per se - it has a decent quality build (aside from the cheap key-way mentioned before) and those who have previous experience with the company (Design House) can draw their own conclusions about where this might rate. I hope to see more than a couple of years service from it until I can afford to change all the fixtures matching this on to something better.

Fit but very tight - form factor a bit different than the OEM it replaced

This was to replace the same brand deadbolt that failed (link from the rotating throw to the deadbolt - small rivet broke). The cylinder diameter housing (now a black plastic) is a little larger than the all metal original part. I could 'force' it a bit to fit. It throws the bolt farther than the original too so it feels like it's not closing all the way when you turn the external knob, but it does engage and work. Overall I'd say a 3.5 but no option for that. Came on time with all the needed parts (I re-used some as convenient). Been using it for a month, so far no issues.

BHP Deadbolt Replacement Part

Was not sure this would fit my deadbolt since mine was a BHP (Better Home Products) brand. Took a chance and ordered. It is slightly different, but it aligned perfectly with the BHP parts. Smooth action, perfect replacement, and not very expensive; when considering total replacement as worse case, this is well worth taking a chance. Now I know which part to order the next time one of these parts break.
