Bought it for my husband after he had surgery (torn Patellar tendon). He would not wear his immobilizing brace but needed something to provide additional support, this worked perfect!

Structural support for old knees with misaligned patellas

Too many miles in the high Rockies of Wyoming left my arthritic knees in bad shape. After a few sessions with a patient physical therapist he diagnosed a problem with my patellas being displaced and causing inflammation. His advice was specifically to buy these DonJoy J braces. I carefully measured my legs using the info on the Amazon website, and ordered Large size for both legs, since my measurements were at the low end of the Large range. Once they arrived, I soon found out the neoprene was too restrictive around my knees even with no pressure added from the straps - especially when sitting, my knees began to throb due to restricted blood flow. So I ordered XL sizes. They are a bit loose at the thigh, but my knees and calves are much more comfortable. I need to use some tension with the straps to keep the braces in place, but that is what puts gentle pressure on the patella to keep it in proper position. After 3 weeks of using the braces, and continued therapy and exercises to rebuild weakened quad muscles, my knees are much improved. Going forward I will use the J braces for strenuous walking or standing for long periods so I don't get into such bad straits again. The braces seem to be well made, they appear to be durable and they are certainly substantial. In cold or cool weather, the extra warmth on my knees is great but in warm weather they will be too hot, so I will consider the lighter weight fabric version for summer golf outings.

Could fit better

Doesnt look like the picture. Slides down a lot, I have to constantly adjust it. I wouldn’t recommend this for someone that walks a lot. I have to walk a lot for work so it’s super annoying to have to keep adjusting it. I give two stars because it does help when it stays on properly.

disappointing

The J part works well, but these braces tend to be real bad about sliding down my leg. I have started wearing them with a sleeve to keep them from sliding down too much.

Worked well. The dimensions were accurate for the fit. Only concern was the back of the Velcro was scratchy and couldn’t be worn without pants on the other leg.
