Tool is great, just maybe the wrong tool for the job.
Threading 3/8 NPT with a hex die is abusive tool use, no matter what hex die you use. My application was mild steel solid bar, and I turned the appropriate taper on the blank before starting. Even with that head start, I did not have access to a correctly sized die handle, and had to make due with an automotive spindle socket and 2 foot breaker bar. Even then, you need the 300 lb gorilla in the shop to run the thread to completion, especially if you fail to get the alignment perfect. And if you do wind up not perfectly aligned, expect to tear out some of the threads. Not saying that there is any issue at all with this die, just explaining the challenges of a hex die for threading this size, and a pipe threading head likely makes more sense.

Good Die for Rethreading...I provde needed wrench size!
Good die for cleaning up and chasing damaged or dirty/rusty/painted pipe threads. Note that this in NOT for threading an unthreaded pipe...I have a heavy duty die set to do that...but my heavy-duty die set is too big to work in a confined space or on a short pipe nipple. That's where this compact rethreading die is great. For those wanting to know what wrench fits this die (Amazon doesn't say)...this 1" pipe die requires a big wrench (2.165" across flats), or you can use a 2 3/16" socket wrench or equivalent box or open-end wrench. I just used a pair of channel locks...not pretty, but it worked in my confined space. A socket wrench would have been best, but the 2 3/16" socket would be another $20 or so and require a 3/4" socket drive. I used the die to clean up the thread on a 1" pipe used as a washing machine drain. Worked like a champ! Highly recommended!

time and money saver
had a pipe for shower that the threads broken off, instead of replacing the whole pipe,{that was in the wall} i rethreaded the existing pipe. The pipe die worked very well and was easy to use.
