Filtrete 20x30x1, AC Furnace Air Filter, MPR 600, 6-Pack: I've used these air filters in the past, so I was surprised to see all the negative reviews, particularly about the framework being flimsy or the sizing being too small. I've had no problems with either, as they fit perfectly and are rigid enough to withstand bending or being sucked inward, causing gaps on the edges. I have a 14 yr-old, 4-ton Trane heat pump. I tried using an air filter with an MPR rating of 1000, thinking it was better because it would filter more impurities from the air. While that's true, I learned the hard way that a heat pump isn't designed to be an air cleaner. Several months later, my heat pump broke down and was blowing hot air. The repair man told me that an air filter with an MPR greater than 600 doesn't allow adequate air flow to my heat pump and may have contributed toward the condenser unit breaking down. The higher the MPR rating, the more it restricts air flow to your AC unit. LESSON LEARNED: In my case, the solution is to use an air filter with an MPR of 600 or less. If allergens are still a concern - buy a separate air cleaner - and don't expect your AC unit to work properly if it's deprived of air flow. These Filtrete air filters fit perfectly (the exact dimensions are advertised and on the box), are sturdy enough to withstand bending and are a great value. Ignore the negative reviews - I'm a 5-year repeat customer and I've always been satisfied with these air filters. Despite all the negative reviews, I give these air filters FIVE STARS.

Good quality for price. Fit is a little tight

I bought these filters to try the new style out to see how they compare. The filters are sturdy and appear to be made of good materials. Surprisingly, these we slightly larger than all the other brands I have tried, and were closer to the actual 20x30 dimensions. Since the vent boxes installed in my house have the screws inside the frame, it is causing the filter to not properly fit in the frame. I would rate these 5 stars if they were sized like all other brands (approximately 1/8" smaller on the dimensions) allowing installation in a frame that has screws.

These filters are above average quality and strength, packed well for shipping in a stronger than average box. Her are some pro's and con's: Pro's: - Reasonably strong, far less bending or bowing when the a/c turns on - MPR 600 rating, which is about a MERV 8 for those interested in comparison - Lasts 2-3 months, depending on how much air pollution your home has - Great value, sweet spot - Stops the most "important" pollutants in ones home, including pet danger, dust, pollen, and mold spores - They are electrostatic Con's: - One of the filters did have a slight bend in it but bowed right back into place and went into the filter frame with no compromise - I wish they were slightly more reinforced as when the unit is on, the center bows a little bit which is a malady of the lower or mid range filters with a lower MPR rating Overall, I'd give these: 9/10

Fit my return

This is a first impression review. The fit of this filter in my 20X30X1" return was very snug which I consider very good. The filter is very flimsy and can see through the thin parts of the media like other reviewers said. I plan to replace these every 30+ days then try the next MERV size up. I'm guessing MERV 10? Wish I didn't have to buy a 6 pack but local stores do not seem to stock anything but the lower or higher MERV filters in 20X30X1"
