Add some work to make this GREAT
>.. For those who haven't figured this out, this is made of wood. Wood is made of fibers, some hard and some soft. That accounts for the little checks and small gaps at the ends. those little checks and gaps can hold food residue, that doesn't come out until you use it again. With wood, this is expected, but can be fixed. >.. To fix the problems, rub water over the whole tool. This raises the soft grain when the tool dries. Sand with medium and fine sandpaper, or fingernail sanders (spongy rectangles). Repeat if you're a detailed person. Wipe with damp cloth to get the sanded wood off the tool. >.. The edges of the two ends will still have gaps and some checks. And the progression from center to edge is mostly full of gaps as the fibers are cut to make the transition to the edges. To fill the gaps, holes, and checks, i recommend CA Glue, medium density. This is also known as super glue. Wearing gloves, apply the glue to all the rough, open areas. the medium density glue will flow into the wood itself, and fill the gaps. Do one end at a time to give you a way to put it down and NOT glue it to that surface. Cap the glue. if you add accelerator it will dry faster, but it is not required. >.. Repeat for the other side once it is dry. >.. Then, once both sides are dry, sand smooth. The glue dries clear, and will look like the wood, for the most part. Sanding will make everything as smooth as plastic or metal that was injection molded. leave the center wood alone, as it is good to have a bit of a grip on things. Coat the whole piece in mineral oil to seal any open wood. ... TOO MUCH WORK? Then buy a different model. This one BELONGS to you, because you worked on it.

Awesome little tool!
I had a tart tamper from pampered chef that I used for many years. We moved & it got lost in the shuffle. This is the third one I’ve purchased to replace mine. I thought I’d never find one that worked as well as my old one. I was wrong! I just made 12 dozen nut tassies without a problem. It’s just perfect! No complaints! I’ll be buying another just in case something happens to the first one I purchased. Highly recommended!

Great little tool for shaping tartlet shells
I own the Wilton tartlet pans 1 x 1.5 in. Dia. (2.5 x 3.8 cm dia.) , and this tool works well for shaping crusts in these. Some people complain that it sticks, but I dip it in flour before pressing each tartlet shell, and it works fine. I get the best results by making sure it is centered, making a light indention, then pushing slowly forcing the sides to form. It sure saves a lot of time compared to trying to form each shell with my fingers.

Simple, easy to clean, and perfectly effective.
If you've been struggling to level the crumb base in cheesecakes with palette knives, the back of a spoon, or a glass that's never quite the right size, this little wooden device is perfect. It doesn't dislodge other sections of the base when you press down, and it glides easily over the entire base to finish off the process. It also makes it easier to keep the sides of the cake form free of stray crumbs. If you're making a cheesecake with raised edges, it is great for making them even.

Great gadget
This product has added a new component to my baking repertoire. I can whip up cute little tarts in no time, flat. If you have a pie recipe, it can be easily adapted to tarts or mini-tarts by simply decreasing baking times. No more gashing the bottom of tart shells with your finger nails. Rather than rolling, cutting and fitting, you place a round nob of dough in your tart pan, dip the tamper in flour, press the dough to fit the form with the tamper, fill and bake. This is not one of those gadgets that collects dust in a drawer. Mine gets regular use, which keeps my family happy.
