Note that Ball tip is not part of the hinge pin

The top ball tip is not part of the hinge pin, which is a deal breaker for our installation where the doors need to be frequently removed by random people for various needs. Both balls are screwed into the hingepin hole. People won't figure that out, so the hinge will certainly be destroyed by the first person who tries to take the hingepin out as they do every other hingepin in this building. A hingepin removal tool would also be needed to get the hingepin out, as it won't just come up when you lift off the ball top. Otherwise, holes were perfectly aligned (within 1/128th inch) with the existing holes. Screws seem to be brass as they are non-magnetic, as is the pin. And as noted in other reviews, thickness is slightly less than the standard 1/8" plates used in this historic building.

Heavy; traditional look; trip to the hardware store required for use

Heavy brass hinges. Removable pins, but unlike the original style, the ball tips screw in to the ends. Functionally and aesthetically, I guess they pass for original. Four stars because buyers shouldn't expect to actually hang a door using the included half-inch screws.

Better value elsewhere

This is a nice hinge, but the screws were short and Phillips head, not flat. so not a truly historic look. You should look at House of Antique Hardware for a much better price and it come with flat head longer screws. If you are ordering more than $100 go directly to House of Antique Hardware and there is free shipping.

Thin - broke from door weight

We are restoring an historic home. The hinges look like the old hinges in the house, but they are flimsy. We hung a vertical grain fir door using three hinges. The bottom hinge broke from the weight of the door and the middle hinge bent from the additional weight. If you are hanging solid-core wood doors or doors with glass, these hinges are not substantial enough for the job.
