metal wire clips too long

I have replaced many of these types of lights. But this company's lights have wires that are way too long. First I couldn't figure out why they kept popping down, one inch below the ceiling, a little gap is understandable but a whole inch! So then I compared to our old ones and the wires were much longer. So I shortened them and bent the ends, had a heck of a time getting them to stay in, used caulking like some suggest, made a huge mess!! If I hadn't clipped and gotten caulk all over them, I would return the whole box.
