Just what the pony ordered
Needed to keep pony water thawed in pasture and it worked as expected in a 7 gal water bucket. Even with the mild winter there were several single digit nights and this heater kept the pony water thawed.

Specifically states not to use extension cord!
I just finished building our bucket waterer for our chickens and while I was attaching the cord to the bucket I actually read the label stuck on the cord. It tells you to have have a professional electrician install an outdoor rated electrical outlet right where you are going to use the heater. It then states specifically not to use an extension cord. This device has a cord that is only about four feet long tops and about two feet of that is the distance from the bottom to the top of the bucket. We hang our waterer in our chickens' enclosure just outside the coop. even if we installed an outlet just above the bucket, the cord still would not reach. The no extension cord requirement is not listed anywhere on the product description or in the instructions. Solely on the sticker on the cord. Kind of BS is you ask me. it is a 250 watt device running on 120v...Amps=Watts/Volts, 250/120=2.08 Amps. Most household circuits are rated 15 Amps. I know fire marshals the world over abhor extension cords, but reality is reality, with a four foot cord, it is just not realistic to tell me not to use an extension cord. Otherwise the product looks like it will work well but this is just an initial review based on unboxing and setting up our system. Actual use and longevity not tested yet.

Preventing the water for my chickens this winter was essential
This warmer came in handy this winter when the temps dropped below freezing and I needed to make my chickens had enough water while I was either away from the house or just away from the chickens. Would buy again.

I had to "redesign" it to use it
The cord comes out at such an angle that it tips the heater on its side, exposing half the element. UPDATE: OK, I found some work-arounds to enable its use. I had to tie the cord to the top of the plastic cage with a bit of blue baling twine (see photo) to make it sit level, and then add about a 1 foot extension cord to make it reach the outlet. I checked the water temperature when I got there today. The surfaces around the water "bucket" (it holds about 15 gallons) were about 32 F. The inside of the bucket, which I assume was the water temperature, was about 56 F !!! I'm so happy, now! The warmer water encourages the horses to drink more, besides just keeping it from freezing at 35 degrees or something!

So far so good
Minnesota winter, I use it in a 25 gallon tank. Have had temperature as low as -10 F so far and no problem keeping water from freezing. Only complaint is that it did not come with a float as advertised. Not a big deal as I wanted it submersible anyway.

Exactly what we needed
We have animals that need water during the freezing temps. I placed one of these into an 80 gallon rubber water trough the day before the temps plummeted to 15. It managed to keep it all thawed with the water keeping an avg temp of 45. Pretty awesome!

So far doing a fantastic job
I have this in my 5 gallon watering bucket in my chicken coop. I am located in Northeast Ohio,, it can,, and usually does get down below freezing during our winters. This heater is doing a great job so far,, I just purchased it, and installed it a few weeks ago,, and our temps are going down into the 20's at night, but my water is ready for the birds use when I let them out in the mornings ! Update,, This item worked great during the artic cold spell we all just went thru !

This things Great
I bought a heater so my dog's water doesn't freeze outside. It's 1° out right now and this thing is going strong. Only 200 Watts so not much more than an old school light fixture is term of power use and if temperatures rise it has thermostat in it and it cuts off so it doesn't run all the time if it doesn't have to. Amazing find and buy. If you have dogs you should get an oversized water bowl and do this

Better than expected
Well I'm an old consumer, jaded by many bad buying experiences, but this was an inexpensive enough thing to risk, even tho the reviews seemed mixed. So now several months in, it's minus 20, came out to my 20 gallon water container frozen solid, I muttered cheep junk I knew it, then noticed the plug, oh MY BAD, replugged, but it's still minus 20 and its frozen solid, there's no hope till the temps come up outside, about 15 hrs later there is open water, another 12 hrs and completely thawed, no ice remaining, I always believed in giving credit where credit is due, 2 thumbs up, better then expected. Update minus 40c wind chill still liquid

Almost works TOO well...
I have this little heater in an insulated plastic 45 gallon water tank outside in the cold and I live in Saskatchewan so it gets COLD. The water has gone all the way up to 20 degrees which is too warm... I don't want any algae growth etc... and that's why I removed a star from the rating. I'm pleased that it can handle the job but will need to put it on a timer to only run a few hours in the middle of the night.

Works well for chickens, although keeps the water warmer than I'd like
This heater works really well for keeping my chickens' water in a 18l plastic bucket warm. The plastic shell around the element keeps the element away from the plastic bucket, so no risk of melting the bucket. The heater is nearly neutrally buoyant. It's easy to have it accidentally float up if the cord is pulled on the slightest bit. The instructions warn to not let the heater run in an empty bucket so I've placed my drinkers an inch or so above the height of the heater in the bucket. I've been running a temperature logger on the bucket, and with it a couple of degrees below freezing outside, the temperature gets up to 25° c when the heater is on, and then slowly cools to 15°c, before starting the cycle again. It would be nice to have a feature on this to adjust the thermostat's setpoints, but it does get the job done with these fixed settings. 4 starts because it works really well, but I wish I could keep the water just a bit cooler to prevent bacterial growth.

The best heater I've tried so far
We have a small hobby farm, and we've tried several water heaters from various sources, so far I like this one the best. The cord guard has kept the goats from chewing the cord, and it's held up during this very cold winter. Going to get another one for the pigs.

Not robust but it works
The unit showed up with the protective cage broken in multiple areas. Upon examining it it’s obvious the material used is not strong at all. However, I needed the unit immediately so I used it and the heater itself works fine. But the cage is disappointing
