Well worth the investment.
4-Way Analyzer arrived today and was immediately put to the test. Simple to use and simple to understand. Provided accurate readings for all tests. While the device comes with a handy pamphlet listing that provides base readings for hundreds of plants, the only one missing is the one I needed - cannabis. If anyone has suggestions as to what the should be...I'm all ears. Still; I'm very satisfied and pleased with my purchase.

I was looking forward to checking our garden soil with this. At first the meter did not seem to move at all for checking fertilizer or ph. I contacted the company and they were very good about responding and giving me some tips on additional ways to try using the meter. I finally put soil in three pots... added a lot of water to make mud. One was good potting soil out of a bag. One was garden soil. One was from the compost pile which had been well composted. The meter did move, however all three pots were almost identical on ph and fertilizer. All three said fertilizer was required. I thought maybe the garden soil would say that, but the other two should have been better. I am in the process of returning the product. The manufacturer did offer to send me a replacement, but I decided on a refund instead. The light and moisture meters were probably more accurate, but that is not what I required.

Good value
Given the price, you can't expect lab accuracy. It's a good value. A couple of comments: 1 - You need to scrub the probes before using. There is a scrubby sponge in the box. 2 - Succulents are having their day in the sun, but this unit will not work for gritty succulent soil. Not enough soil contact, probably, and certainly you can't make mud of it for pH. 3 - Light is measured in LUX, which is really not a measurement of anything plants need. You can get the same measurement on your cell phone. But a light meter that measures PPFD is quite expensive. LUX can be a good proxy measurement for outdoor sunlight, but for plants under grow lights like houseplants and seedlings, it's pretty useless.

I was lost when it came to the health of my lawn and garden beds until I purchased this product.

Not sure
Not sure I trust the ph level. It jumps all around instead of staying at one level, there can’t be that much of a ph difference within a cm

Good Value - OK Precision
The first meter I ordered from Amazon did not seem to function properly. The pH and moisture seemed OK, but fertilizer always seemed to read at the low-end of ideal and light always seemed to read 2000 fc no matter how bright or indirect the sunlight. I filled out a return online and had a replacement within 3 days and a free return label -- good service. The replacement unit seems to function OK. Over the range of pH 6-8 the meter seemed accurate. I tested pH on distilled water (it was 7), on baking soda (it was 8) on soil of known slight acidity (it was 6-6.5). However, when tested on very acid soil (verified to be pH 4 with a chemical test kit), the meter read between pH 1-2. The moisture meter seems to work fine. It read 0 on dry soil, 9 on soaking wet soil, and somewhere in between on moderately damp soil. The light meter was way too sensistive. I compared it to a professional meter and it was reading 1000 footcandles when there was only 200 fc. I "recalibrated" it by putting black tape over 95% of the sensor on top until the readings matched the professional meter -- it is now more or less correct. The fertility meter seems pretty accurate. I mixed up a batch of half strength Miracle-Gro fertilizer solution and poured it over some old spent soil and took a reading -- it read "Too little". Using regular strength MG it read "Ideal" and using double strength MG it read "Too much". I've used this weekly to monitor my fertilizer levels and tell me when to reapply my liquid fertilizer to different vegetables and this is the most useful (and difficult to find) function on a meter like this. Something to note, you MUST insert the probes a full 3.5 inches into the soil for an accurate reading. This makes it difficult to use the meter in very hard clay soils or in shallow house plant pots (like my Bonsai trees). - Rob Thompson

A handy device if you understand how to follow directions.
I read all the reviews I could find on this product and decided that most of the negative reviews were written by lazy people who don't bother to read and follow the directions. Or, ignorant people who are not capable of understanding why holding the light meter up to a bright light bulb is going give the same light intensity on the meter as bringing the meter out into full sun light. I ordered one, it arrived in a timely manor, and I am happy to report that it works to my expectations. Meaning that I believe it is accurate enough to help me to determine if I need to ad or cut down on fertilizer or water, or to amend the soil to adjust the pH of the many different soil types that I need to maintain. Acid for my blueberries(4.0-5.5). Slightly acid for my grapes and plums(5.5-6.0). And 6.5-7.2 for most of my veggies and my wife's flowers. I don't have any issues with light intensity for my outdoor plantings but, the light meter will be of great value for indoor plantings whether in a window or under plant lights. I gave this review 4 out of 5 stars for two reasons. 1. Even though my light meter works great, I couldn't ignore the many complaints I read about light meter not working properly or not working at all because I just can't believe that their are that many people who couldn't figure out how to work that. So I guess it's just hit or miss on that one. 2. My meter, which I consider to be a delicate instrument, was shipped from Amazon.com in a padded envelope and received with the packaging damaged and the probes were bent. I had to carefully bend the probes straight again and the meter works as it should. This item should have been carefully packed in a box and not an envelope. Hopefully, my rapitest 1880 4-way analyzer will give many years of service.

Overall this is a very economical tester for consumer use
Overall this is a very economical tester for consumer use. I feel the need to point out that this device is not intended for commercial use and as such is not going to give you high precision test results. That being said, this device is quite accurate particularly considering the price point. The pH and moisture testing is quite accurate if you follow the instructions and are your bread and butter so to speak. Unfortunately I'm unable to assess the light meter feature at this time as I do not have a precision meter to compare results. Finally the fertilizer meter. Although useful in assessing the overall soil nutrient content, it really isn't of much use other than a guide. I highly recommend using individual chemical tests for N-P-K once a year so amendments can be added appropriately if necessary. Although this product seems to have some production quality issues, I believe many of the negative reviews are due to improper use and care for the device. This device measures conductivity in the soil to determine pH, moisture and dissolved solids. It is critical that the probes be kept clean and dry when not in use as oxidation of the probes will result in inaccurate readings.

Analyzer does indeed work, even if it doesn't seem like it
At first, I thought this analyzer was faulty since it wouldn't give me any fertilizer or pH readings that wasn't default, but after testing it with diluted fertilizer and vinegar, I have confirmed that it does in fact work. The readings are accurate enough to give you an idea for what direction to go with your soil. The light analysis is useless since it just checks whether there is any light source, while the moisture test is not really recommended since the instructions tell you to insert it relatively close to the plant itself, which risks damage to the plant's roots. You can probably buy one of the dozens of other cheaper no-name analyzers on Amazon and get the same results as this one. Just be sure to test them with non-neutral substances to make sure they actually work.

Didn’t seem to work
Didn’t seem to be accurate. But reading the instructions (many pages of fine print!) it is quite finicky. Wont be accurate if too close to the pot edge, to a rock, can’t really remember but many different variables. So maybe the conditions weren’t right but I did my best and it didn’t seem accurate to me

Soil Requires Preparation before use
Product delivered Thurs - returned Friday. No where on the description of the product does it show what is required to perform soil tests. I assumed all I had to do was to insert the units 3 prongs in the ground to get the results. There was soil preparation required to use this product for some of the tests that were not mentionded in the product description. It would be beneficial to know what is involved before making a purchase decision. Product looks well built however I cannot comment any further because I have not used it.

Don't Buy It -- NOT ACCURATE
I had been happy with my purchase. It indicated that my plant containers were dryer than what my old moisture meter was telling me. I trusted this new one....until my containers of soil (which are under a roof and protected from precipitation) became completely saturated. I had tested the soil every time before watering. It became obvious that this meter was defective. Have not used it again. WASTE OF MONEY.
