Worth the extra money

I love this product. It does what it says. First I bought a cheap seat to replace the one that came lose and fell off. The same thing happened to the cheap one. When I was installing this one, I thought I had broken the plastic top of the screw. I realized it was supposed to pop off when the screw was tight enough to keep the seat secure. I know this seat will last against the heaviest person that flops onto the seat.

Exactly what I wanted, with one tiny issue!

This is very solid, and the slow closure mechanism works good,, but maybe a little too good. I would rather have a slow closing toilet seat, as opposed to one that slams closed, with a loud bang. This might even be adjustable, but it closes so slow, you might need to give it a little nudge, but still better than the alternative. I have not had any problems with the finish coming off, but I owe that to the other reviewers, that mentioned that issue. I use a very gentle soapy water, to clean it, with a germicidal soap, and it still looks brand new. I could see how using a very strong cleaning product could be too harsh, but I think I will try one of the citrus based products, just to see what happens. It does look good, not that a toilet seat needs to look good, but it certainly doesn’t look bad. It is a stark color, which is totally appropriate. My tiny issue, which is an acceptable trade off, but might not be for everyone, is as follows. There are toilet seats that are installed from just the top of the toilet, which is what I thought this was. This is the type that you can tighten from the top, but you do need to place the bottom fasteners, from the bottom. I was replacing one that you could completely installed from the top, and then you could tighten it from just the top, but that created the situation where you had to tighten it, way too frequently. Everything is relative, and the old one required tightening from the top, which took all of about a minute, but perhaps every few months. It was quick and easy, but became annoying. This promises to stay tight, and I actually waited to see for myself, and it hasn’t loosened at all, and is exactly as tightly installed as the day I installed it. I ordered it, and took everything out of the box, including the hardware, and I was replacing the older one, that was broken. I am sure I could have returned it, but I figured I would just install it, even though you do need to get to the bottom, for a few moments. The only reason this even mattered was there is very little room between the wall, on one side, and the vanity, on the other side, in my guest bathroom, so it is a little tight to get underneath. With that said, I would do it again, in a second, because the full top only installation type does loosen. The 5 minutes of getting under it was well worth it, to install it, and forget it. No more retightening necessary. I agree with the other reviewers that mentioned it is not perfect for comfort, but no more, or less than any other solid hardwood seat. I gave up on the cushioned ones, along time ago, because they are usually somewhat flimsy, and harder to keep perfectly clean. Maybe there are better cushioned ones available now, but this was perfect for my needs. As long as you have room to get the bottom fasteners on, from the bottom, this was a great choice.

Hardware did not work with Toto Entrada

I had to reuse the hardware from the previous toilet seat, as the nuts had a protrusion that would not clear a Toto Entrada toilet. Also, I don't see any way to remove the seat for easy cleaning. As for as easy installation and installing from the top and no getting down on your knees...well that wasn't quite accurate.

Solid Throne

This was my first time buying and installing a toilet seat. Turns out they're incredibly easy to install and it turned out that my old toilet seat and toilet itself really needed a deep clean in the hidden crevices anyway. Never realized this, but stuff really builds up there and so the deep clean felt really rewarding. This new toilet seat is great because it's sturdy, adds height, is easy to clean, is adjustable on a hinge that lets you position it forward or back of the bolts, and it lowers slowly and silently. My only suggestion to the manufacturer would be to make shorter bolts with a smaller bolt head. The ones that come with this seat are T-shaped and wouldn't screw on past the wide part of the shape of the toilet, so I had to use the ones from my old toilet seat, which are more narrow (think: hexagonal head). With this adjustment, the product would be perfect!

Great seat! Read instructions! Needs 13 mm wrench.

Awesome seat. Works as billed. Install was fine. I almost missed the bit in the instructions where it tells you to keep tightening the screws until the “top” snaps off. Also did not realize you need a 13 mm wrench, but I had one. Love it so far!

Sturdy/Well Built

The plastic toilet seat that came with our new Delta elongated bowl toilet was flimsy. The lid was made out of thin plastic and it had a scratched finish. Couldn't even put your foot on it to file or trim toe nails without possibly putting your foot thru the lid let alone sit on it. This Mayfair slow close toilet seat is VERY sturdy and has a VERY smooth finish. The white seat matches the toilet perfectly and you can literally stand on the lid. The information Mayfair provides on the Amazon site is extensive and helpful. Installation is very simple and this seat does not move once installed. Will buy again.

A solid toilet seat

The toilet seat was pretty easy to install, especially since you don't have to climb under the toilet in order to get a screw in. So far (we have been using it for more than two months now) both the seat and the seat cover close slowly. My husband and I, we both like that feature. The grandchildren are still getting used to it, as they only go to the toilet in the very last moment, and waiting for the seat to go down can be trying for the little ones. But at least they learn. For years and years and years, we had plastic seats. What a difference it is to handle, clean and sit on a wooden toilet seat. We are satisfied.

Design Flaw

I have had two of these now. Amazon were great and replaced the first one which broke. The second one broke after about a year. Amazon were great and gave me a credit as I don't want another. The seat breaks. There is a design flaw I think. The seat's underneath supports, sit too high on the toilet bowl and as such, the seat will bend somewhat and eventually break. Like I said, I have had two of these and that is what happened.
