Budget friendly smart feeder
3 year review update! My auto pet feeder shown in the pictures, 12 years old, by a different brand stopped working. I was using this smart feeder to feed our kitten but now it has to be used to commingle all food for both of our cats until we can get our other feeder repaired or replaced. There was not a double feeder splitter three years ago when I bought mine and I had to buy a 3D printed one and make do! So A problem with my splitter and the one the company makes is that there is no way to keep the bowls from sliding around or being pushed and pulled out of place by the cats when they go digging looking for food. My other stainless steel feeder has a strong magnetic base that holds the very reasonably sized bowls in place. The bowl that comes with this pet feeder is a bit ridiculous and over sized especially if wanting to use to feed multiple cats. Otherwise I use my own bowls and splitters and I LOVE being able to feed meals and snacks from my phone. I don’t like that everything is plastic compared to my higher end stainless steel pet feeder. A giant heavy cook book now permanently lives on top of this machine to stop our mischievous kitten from being able to push the button and over feed herself and others. I like having access to the button to give snacks especially since when I am at home I usually don’t know where my phone is to use the app. I have not installed any back up batteries and I love that it auto programs to daylight savings and settings aren’t lost after a power outage. 7 months of use UPdATE: Here we are after a lot of use and my issues are #1. The blue button led light is horrifically bright. I ended up putting electrical tape over the top of it just last night after months of just keeping the user manual over it. This light should turn off either with the app or just automatically and For me this is a major design flaw. #2. The clock isn’t adjustable so i can’t set it to sync with another automatic feeder that I have from a different company. #3. I bought the double feeder splitter and I wish this feeder had a better base to accommodate multiple cat bowls. I have to place the edge of the Bowles underneath the base of the feeder or the food will end up all over the floor. Thankfully nothing major has happen and things are still working for now. Newly installed day 1. It seems that Petsafe fixed all the issues from the previous model. The WiFi 2.0 has a “child lock” aka smart cat lock out feature that renders the top feeding button inert. It also seems to have a low food alert through the app and the ability to reorder food through Alexa. Installation Pro TIP: make sure that the font size on your phone or iPad is set to the smallest setting possible otherwise when using the app words may appear jumbled and distorted. Most importantly you won’t be able to get passed the initial instruction screen that tells you how to set up WiFi. The Bad News: #1 When scheduling feeding times there is only the option to set times in 15minute increments. So I can’t set my feeder to go off at 4:58pm with my other non smart feeder. It will only set to 4:45pm or 5pm. #2. The plug is huge and due to its size hinders the ability to use the other outlet such as for my LED flashlight/nightlight. #3. There is no dinner chime like on my pillar perfect pet feeder. The dinner chime is great for waking the cats up if they are sleeping upstairs or just unaware of how close to dinner time it is. #4. It’s a chunky monkey as in it takes up a huge foot print without offering more bang for my buck as far as food holding capacity. The food hopper holder claims to hold 24 cups of food and for two cats at 1/2 cup per day for dinner that could last two weeks. My Pillar perfect pet feeder holds close to 12-16lbs of food and has an automatic low food chime. #5. I should have realized that everything was going to be made out of plastic. I was disappointed to see the food hopper was plastic. At least the bowl isn’t plastic. The good news: #1. Customer support was awesome at helping me troubleshoot the large phone text sizing issue. I couldn’t get passed the initial startup page in the app until we figured out that my text size was set too large for their app to be able to compensate. #2. I really like the idea of being able to control the feeding amounts from my phone. This ability paired with my Arlo cameras will hopefully help reduce over feeding if one of the cats doesn’t show up for dinner when we aren’t home. #3. I plan to use a 3D printed food divider to be able to feed two cats from one feeder!

I've had it for years, and it's easily the best automatic cat feeder I've used.
I bought the original version of this feeder years ago and I've been perfectly happy with it. Then recently I accidentally broke the lid latch on the old one, so I figured I'd just buy a new one and keep the old one as a spare. The new one so far has been just as good as the original one (they're pretty much identical), but it also has a few improvements. The LED on the top can now change colors to give a better indication of its status, and now it can send a message to your phone to let you know when it's running low on food. They made a great product even better, without trying to "improve" the parts that already worked fine. About the best endorsement I can make for this feeder is that I never seriously considered replacing it with another brand, despite it being more "premium" (ahem, expensive) than some of the competition. Once it is set up, it works so reliably and without trouble you can simply not worry about it. That's exactly what I want from a feeder. If I absolutely *had* to find nitpicks with this thing, it's that the lid latch is pretty delicate (treat it gently), and it--like most of the competition--requires you to create an account to make full use of the phone app. But this thing has been so reliable neither of these issues is even close to a dealbreaker for me.

Good company and great Customer Service
Great product that’s easy to set up and works very reliably. Never had any issues. Then my large dog decided he was going to kill his Golden Goose. I called for help with replacement parts and the company was beyond helpful in making this right. I’ll look for petsafe products in the future whenever I can.

Less satisfied as time goes on.
Update 4/25/22: The more time passes, the less satisfied we are with this purchase. Multiple times a day, the feeder dispenses all over the floor because there is no way to keep the bowls in place. Even on the single feeder without the splitter, the cats manage to detach the base to move the bowl. Why can’t you make a single and double bowl holder attachment that secure to the base with more than just gravity?? The feeders dispense at such different intervals and without consistency that the cats have all started to demonstrate food aggression and anxiety. If the feeders are connected to WiFi and set at the same time, why don’t they dispense simultaneously????? At first we were blaming the food motivated cat for trying to tilt the machines for a jackpot, but now we’ve noticed they drop almost 1/4 cup of food if they are bumped at all - with barely any force! Original review: We live with five cats, which is too many imo, but I don't think they could pay the bills without us so we can't move out. During the week, they were great about waking us up at 5am for work (and their mealtime), but I guess they're concerned about those bills because they felt the need to wake us up for work on weekends too. Not to mention, any time we took a few days away they would panic-eat all of the gravity-feed kibble within moments of our departure and we would return to find the house looking like the morning after a kitty frat party. An automated controlled feeder seemed like our best solution, but these are costly. We did our research and this brand came out on top. Pros: *You can feed two cats from one feeder! This was a HUGE plus for us, as we only needed to buy 3 feeders for our five cats. One of our cats is significantly more food motivated than the others, so he received the solo-feeder. *The feeders hold an entire small bag of kitty kibble! We don't use the auto-order feature, because we prefer Chewy, but being able to simply pour a bag into each feeder has been super easy. *The lid LOCKS. Once that delicious kibble is inside, the lid locks so prevent tampering. The "manual feed" button on top can also be disabled to prevent our particularly intelligent cat from serving himself second breakfast (or fourths). *Slow feed options, multiple scheduled feeds, and Alexa pairing to serve up treats between meals? Awesome! Cons: *The bowls don't stay attached to the feeder. So, for the divided feeders, there is no option to hold the bowls in place. The splitter prevents the use of that apparatus. We've experimented with different things to hold their plastic bowls in place, because the sound of the food hitting the metal bowl also scares the cats. It would be REALLY NICE if the company provided grip-mats with the dividers if they can't manufacture a double bowl attachment. Also - the SINGLE bowl attachment is very easily disconnected. That food motivated cat I mentioned? He likes to rock the feeders like a drunk guy tilting a vending machine until a Snickers falls out. The bowl attachment is only held on by gravity, so it separates and when the scheduled feed releases the food falls all over the floor. It's only partially a design flaw, as the other four cats are not tampering with the feeders. *The scheduled feeds are NOT simultaneous - they are sometimes a few minutes apart despite being set for the same time. There is also no consistency to which feeder releases first. We tried unplugging and repairing devices to purposely have the hangry cat's release first, as he tends to bully his way in to the other bowls... but to no avail. Since they are all paired on the same app using the same time, we can't figure out why one will release at 11:58 or 12:00 and another at 12:00 or 12:02 and the last at 12:01 or 12:03. There seems to be no pattern, but it consistently pisses off our cats and makes it hard for them to adjust to the routine, which - in turn - makes it difficult for us to live our lives with unhappy roommates. We would love to try setting one for 11:59, 12:00, and 12:01 to see if they would all actually feed simultaneously then... except you can ONLY feed at 15 minute intervals. *There is no "chime" to alert the cats that is feeding time. When we fed them without robots, we used a handheld clicker to train them. They all respond to that sound and travel to wherever it is coming from. It would be awesome if the feeder could allow for playing a recorded sound. Of course, that would only be useful if the feeders could also work in synchrony. If they truly connected to the Alexa app, I think a lot of these issues would be resolved... but the Alexa compatibility is ONLY to feed a treat on voice command. You can't schedule or include the feeder in Alexa routines. So... we're content with our purchase, but there are still a lot of kinks to be worked out. Hopefully there will be future models with greater compatibility and support for multi-pet households. If anyone else has a way to keep the bowls from sliding, and to prevent hangry food obsessed cats from shaking free loose kibble, please share! He isn't listening to reason.

Unreliable - Extremely Disappointed
My cat adores this, but after a week I discovered that it stops functioning if the internet connection is lost. Why bother having back up batteries then?!?!?! If the power goes out, so does the internet. What a joke. I bought this hoping I could count on it to feed her while I was away for two nights. Thank god I found out in time that I couldn't trust it. The only good thing I can say about it is that it stops my cat from waking me up at 6am, and (when it works) it feeds her when I'm on the late shift. I've initiated a return and will be looking for something more reliable.

We had one, and now we have two.
It's a lot of money, but it's worth it for us. We have 2 cats and 2 feeders. We have them set to regular intervals throughout the day. Being able to adjust things in the app is great because it gives you a lot of flexibility. The one thing I will say is, it's quite loud. It startles our cats every time it goes over. There's the sound of the motor, and also the sound of the kibbles hitting the empty stainless steel bowl. It's a lot of noise. One of our cats is on a diet, so one thing I will say is I wish we could actually put out a smaller amount of food. We're trying to do smaller amounts more frequently. That said, it goes down to ⅛ of a cup, so I'm just being picky. One thing that's a bit odd is that we have two feeders, controlled in the same app, set for the same times during the day...but they never actually go off at the same time. Anywhere from a few seconds to about two minutes apart. It would be great if they went off at once so the noise would just happen and be over. While this does offer a lot of flexibility, I also just want to remind people that this is not intended to be something where you leave for days and trust that your cat will be fed and no one needs to check in.

Only supports 2.4GHz (short range) WiFi
I can't believe a product this expensive can't splurge on a WiFi chip that supports 5GHz WiFi networks. It worked fine for the first 10 minutes, then it went offline and refused to come back online. When you reboot it, it comes back online for 5 minutes again then goes offline. This is a pretty serious issue. I hope the scheduled feedings work, but as it is the on demand function doesn't work at all. If I have to walk up to it to restart it every time I may as well scoop the food myself from this $300 dog food bin.

Wanted to love it, hard to not throw it against a wall due to frustration
Cat on a diet, needs specific portions. Bought this and have had it for 5 days. It has had 1 day with no issues. The rest have been issue after issue after issue. It keeps saying there's a problem and to prime it. So I give it a little shake, prime it, then it works fine for 1 or 2 scheduled feedings but then craps out again. Half the time there's nothing wrong and the light just changes from red back to blue and it then gives a double or triple portion. I think we got a lemon. Reluctantly returned it and will be looking for a different solution.
