Smaller than appears
Product is… okay… Only two issues I have with it, one being my own fault. Quality is not what I expected from Rubbermaid. 1- The size. I was expecting it to be a little bigger. Not a “standard” large size (if there is a standard size trashcan lol) but just a little bigger than it is. For those of you using this for chicken feed, it holds about 2 and a half 35lb bags of feed. 2-The lid. I (wrongly) assumed since this was a container specifically for livestock feed that the lid would be a little more secure/tight. It’s extremely loose and flimsy. With the lid “latched” on both sides you can easily bend the lid up about 3”-4”. I can easily see ants/bugs getting in to it this summer. It’s tall enough that I don’t think mice/opossums/raccoons will be an issue but bugs could easily squeeze under the lid and a strong enough storm could blow rain in it. These issues would be fine for any other cheap Amazon product but it’s relatively expensive and made by Rubbermaid so I expected much better quality.

Not as advertised!
There is no clear window at the top for easy scooping, also the lid is super flimsy. It may keep water out however bugs can definitely get in it. I’m a little disappointed because it wasn’t cheap! I’m going to return it and get a vault product instead. This will not work outside even in a semi covered barn because pests will get in the food.

Perfect size for so many things
40 gallons is enough to store a lot of things, but not too much to be able to move around. I use them to store garbage in my garage (away from the bears) until pickup day - then load them in my truck to transport them to the top of the hill to put into the bin. Also store sand and/or gravel in them to spread on that icy road. Really sturdy.

Great Bin
I really like this bin. It is compact, I needed one that would fit in a tight space and this fits the bill. Easy cover to remove and replace. Keeps the mice away. Holds 50lbs of Timothy pellets for my horse. And I can see through it enough to tell when the food volume is low. I recommend this product

Lid not as advertised
Nice bin but the lid is not as advertised. It was a regular trash can lid, no clear window, no scoop storage & doesn’t seal at all leaving contents vulnerable to pests and moisture. Disappointing and a waste of money.

Durable; Weather Resistant
this is our second one of these. we use them outside; one for chicken feed and one for chicken scratch. they sit right outside in the weather next to the coop. the first one we've had for a couple of years now, and it still looks great and still seals up tight. we really like them for storing feed.

Worked very well for our use. The top is a bit "hard", a little too stiff to flex on and off well. So far it has held up ok in the winter but I suspect that lid will be the thing to go. I would buy it again but would like to see Rubbermaid do a little tune-up on the lid.

Quality product.
Can and lid are both sturdy and should hold up for years of use. Using for dog food storage and the can holds about 80lbs with a little bit of room to spare. Product description states there's a clear window to easily identify contents of can built into the lid -- there is not, hence only a four star rating.
